This is my first post so I apologise if I've done something wrong!

Hi guys, my name is Becky and I'm almost 27, I have a 5 year old, an 8 week old and I now weigh 19st 4 lbs :(

I joined slimming world last week and only lost a pound last night and I'm feeling disheartened, like I'm going to be this big forever! I came dangerously close this morning to eating an easter egg, stayed strong but I guess some words of encouragement would be amazing right now, or to hear from anyone who only had a tiny loss in their first week but went on to do okay?

Thanks so much xx

Hi Becky, I know you are probably feeling down now but that lb is a step in the right direction. At least it's a lb off and not on. I'm a slow loser so I know it's disheartening. Just stick with it as I'm sure other weeks you will have bigger losses. Just make sure you are having your third super free with each meal and drinking plenty of water. How many syns are you having? For some reason I find that if I go nearer the 15 syn a day mark I lose more. Just think a lb a week, in 6 months you will have lost almost 2 stone!

Oh I can understand how frustrating it can be. But first be kind to yourself if it was your best friend you would say well done for trying to manage your food and well done for losing a pound. I always think that the first week is more a finding your way week, I.e get to grips with the plan work out how it suits you. I would suggest a few examples of your food diary so we can just check there are no unknown errors. If you go to group I presume you gave a food diary to your consultant. If so what did she/he say?

If you have an 8 week old your body has been through a lot recently so might take longer to adjust to any change in diet. What were you eating before & are you breastfeeding?Like the others said it might be an idea to do a food diary so someone can help you out if there has been an oversight.Dont give up,you could go on to have a massive loss next week that's how it works for some people x

Hey...a lb is a lb....well done!
Not everyone has huge losses in the first week, but that doesn't make them any less successful. Often, not always ;) ,they go on to have a great loss the 2nd week. Really, there is no set pattern
I have joined SW many times over, my biggest 1st week loss was 6.5 lb and my lowest was 1 lb! Work that one out!

just keep plugging away....making sure you are eating enough, especially if you are breast feeding

I can understand why you're disappointed. It may be that you've been doing something thinking it was right that isnt. Make sure you read and understand your book, especially your Healthy Extras and what is free and what is superfree (dont get confused by the SS symbols as many do as that means superspeed NOT superfree). Drink plenty of water and stick with it - it will be worth it.

If it makes you feel better I think its fantastic that you've taken this step with a newborn around - that shows determination

Wow guys thank you for the replies, i really appreciate you taking the time to help me :)

I'm not sure where i went wrong last week, i think maybe i wasn't having my 1/3 superfree as with a young baby i just about had time to make the main part of the meal if that makes sense, hes quite a clingy baby and i find it hard to get much time in the kitchen, although i made slimming world chips, steak with free peppercorn sauce, diet coke chicken, spag bol, etc, I'm not a big veg eater (such as carrots, swede, sweet potato, butternut squash ect.) it upsets my tummy and makes me feel a bit yucky and sick but i do love peppers, mushrooms, courgettes etc, a lady at group lastnight suggested just throwing it all in a pan with some fry light and roasting it, i will try that this week, i like salad too so i think i will make a bowl and keep it in the fridge, also a fruit salad too.

I dont know if a lack of sleep can hinder weight loss? As most nights i usually get about 3-4 hours, then another 2 after ive fed him, im usually up at about 5.30 with him (he's an early bird! ) and dont go to sleep again until 11pm, unless im lucky enough to get a nap in the day. I'm going to try and drink more water this week and put more effort into the 1/3 superfree element, i havent been eating huge portions or anything but ive just been chucking a few lettuce leaves on my plate with a tomato, or not putting anything on and just pretending its there to help portion control! lol

I'm not breastfeeding, but i have spent the best part of a year stuck indoors on the sofa with bad pelvic pain whilst pregnant, was so bad sometimes i had to crawl to toilet and couldn't stand up. So i couldn't walk more than a few minutes, he was a huge baby too weighing 10lb 2oz and i had him naturally, although no complications, i took a long time to recover from the labour. I am basically starting from zero, 10 minutes walking leaves my ankles hurting and i go red and sweaty, its really embarrassing. My diet before SW was atrocious, just grabbing little tit bits from the kitchen when i could and not cooking, i honestly dont think i ate a vegetable in about 2 months before last week! My poor body is so unhealthy right now but i feel much better in myself from eating better, i have loads of energy and im even walking to my daughter to a from school everyday (40 minute round trip, my MIL was doing it for me before)

I guess i just need to start slowly and give myself time, i will keep you posted on how i get on this week :)

Hi becky

well done on ur loss! Although u havent had a 'big' loss remembering that steady weight loss is so much better for u and is more likely to stay off.

If i have a small loss and feel disheartened i always hav a re-look at what a pound of fat actually looks like - try typin it into google!

keep going :)

Start a food diary on here and let us see what you are having each day... it will be much easier to see if there needs to be a tweek here or an improvement there.

Great idea about the roasted veg - its lovely. Get some of those seasoning shaky things (free) to put on the veg too. I know you say you dont like a lot of veg but they taste so much nicer roasted - give them a go.

I've heard that lack of sleep can hinder weightloss but theres probably not a lot you can do about that at the mo!

Also - when you have time to cook something - say a bolognaise, chilli, casserole etc - then make double and freeze in portion sizes. Then some nights you'll barely have to cook

Just keep pushing on hun. It was still a loss and sounds like you had lots of yummy meals so just keep going. I am sure I have heard that lack of sleep can effect weight loss, not sure how but I think it's possible. Good luck for next week x

Well done for losing your 1lb! A loss is definitely a loss and they do all add up no matter how small :D like suggested by others, just try to make sure you're as on plan ask you can't be e.g. your third of super free. I definitely agree with doing a food diary on here, the people are lovely and if you're doing something that's not to plan or you're unsure about something, they'll set you on the right path again :) good luck!! X

Thanks all :)

Still going strong, had a bad day yesterday, felt very weepy and was craving junk food, I would have done unspeakable things for a KFC and a huge bar of dairy milk, I had to pop to the shop and spent about 5 minutes staring at the chocolate..I may have even had a tear roll down my cheek haha the lady at the till must have thought I was some kind of nutter! Anyway I managed to leave with just what I needed and came home and had a curly wurly out of my syns, it did the job and I felt okay after although I got through a mountain of SW chips and egg for dinner, I had a really hungry day yesterday! Today has been good, chicken breast with my own rub of herbs and spices, savoury rice and a big salad, was hungry again 2 hours later so munched on 2 slices of brown toast with dairylea light (HEA and B) it filled the gap, dinner is roast chicken, roast veg and new potatoes have enough syns left for some gravy too :) I've had my curly wurly today already hehe

How do I do a proper food/weigh loss diary on here? Do I need to start a new thread?

Thanks again everyone much appreciated xx

Another suggestion - utilize the slimming world site. There are tonnes of recipes for meals, snacks etc on there.

Also theres loads of recipes on minimins too - you can make nearly anything you want (even choc cake if you use scan bran - ok it will NEVER be Black Forest Gateaux!!)

The 'brown bread'... was it brown bread or wholemeal? If it was brown bread it won't count as a HeX-B... it needs to be wholemeal.

You can start a food diary here.

I'm having a hungry day today and I've eaten loads... it happens EVERY Thursday as I WI on a Friday!!

Yes it is the wholemeal 400g loaf :)

I'm so very tired today and my baby just will not settle, he hasn't had more than 10 minutes sleep all day, plus we had an inspection from the letting agency, thankfully my partner got rained off (well not thankfully really as we lose a days money!) so he has been able to help tidy up and everything. We are both knackered though and almost ordered pizza, i had already roasted the chicken though so i stayed strong and have just put the veg in the oven, it smells lovely and i will feel so much better after than i would if i had given in and ordered the pizza! I keep getting visions of giving in and just giving up on the whole thing, i cant let it happen this time. Although i will let myself have one night off every couple of weeks or so,once i really get into it and actually lose some weight, i need a break from all the cooking!

xx

When I first did SW a few years ago I stayed the same in my first week despite sticking to plan 100%. I was so disappointed but stuck with it and lost 4lbs in my second week and 2.5lbs in the third.

You're doing so well with all your willpower even when you're exhausted and busy with your babies. Bet with the hormones and tiredness it's even harder to resist sugar, so big respect!
I think you'll see some good results soon, even if just by adding up what you lose in your first month. And if not, you're being healthy now and when your body settles down a bit you might see results then. You'll be increasing your energy and fitness long term (and that's good for the children too of course!).

I think ur doing amazingly. Well done honi.
How have u got on this wk? x x
