Does too much off one thing hinder your weight loss?

I'm just wondering if eating one thing repeatedly in a week hinders your weight loss? I always have the same breakfast weetabix with banana and a yogurt and due to my husbands lack of adventure we tend to have a lot of SW chips. I ask this because I am good on the plan and very rarely exceed my syns if I use any at all as I don't eat any form of fat butter, lard etc and I don't have treats like puddings or chocolate by choice it only bothers me on star week lol. I am losing weight steadily 1-2lb a week and I walk my dog for 40 mins, 3 times a day up a hill which isn't a gym workout i know but its a good workout for me at my current weight and I'm just wondering should I be losing more and what could I do to lose more? If anything.

Losing 1-2lb a week is great, so it's not affecting your losses at all. Maybe if you hit a plateau at some point you could try to add in some extra exercise, (although your exercise sounds great) and try to mix up your eating a bit (ie, have a cooked breakfast on a weekend?) but if it's all fine at the moment and you're happy with it, I see no reason to change it.

I think people are advised by slimming clubs to vary their food just to keep it interesting, for some people eating the same food every day would mean quickly breaking the diet because they get bored, but if that doesn't bother you, then I wouldn't worry about it. I would say to use some of your syns though, everyone needs a treat now and again. :) x

There is no logical or scientific reason why eating the same thing every day would affect weight loss in itself.

People often suggest changing things because they say that your body gets used to certain foods - I cannot see how this can be true.

But what I think does happen is either (a) people get bored with the same thing all the time and boredom can lead to going off the rails, and/or (b) people get complacent about weighing and measuring when they have the same thing all the time, because they think they know what x amount of cereal looks like, for instance. When they change things they might be a bit more careful about weighing.

One other thing - you say you don't have any fat at all. You should have some, because some vitamins cannot be absorbed without some fat.

You are doing very well, although perhaps being a bit too strict with syns. They don't have to be used for sweet things, but can be used for extra ingredients to make meals more interesting - such as avocado, salad dressings, butter, gravy - whatever appeals to you.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to change my meal plan for one week and see if theres a major change in weight loss if there isn't I'll go back to doing what I'm happy with.

I have the same breakfast because I love cereal if I could do an all cereal diet I would be soooo happy so I'm not having the same thing because I'm not adventurous I just enjoy my cereal.

And the fat thing I have been told the same by many people and I'm not deliberately avoiding fat for slimming purposes it genuinely repulses me I cannot stand the smell, texture or taste so I cook wherever possible with the low cal spray but I tend to dry fry most things.

I just naturally like all the stuff that's good for me but I think after meeting my husband I wanted to do what he liked and my weight has risen because of it as my slim husband remains slim...men!

I actually worked out since meeting my husband I've put 7st on...but he's very supportive of my slimming and is suffering the new food as he likes grease and chips and chocolate and biscuits...lol.

He does try to encourage me to eat chocolate and biscuits and so forth but like I said it doesn't bother me I'm not avoiding them I just don't want them I would much rather have yogurt as my treat. Don't get me wrong when I get a craving I do give into them and I am sooo bad when it comes to cheesecake but again its usually only at that TOTM.

As for syns again not doing it on purpose its just the food I eat is low in syns. I have done a food plan for next week and the syn value for the whole week is 5 atm I saw some thai fish cakes which I don't have the syns for yet but they'll probably be the highest syns I have all week.

Anyway I'll see how this week goes and if I lose the same amount then I'll know if variety makes a difference. So long as I lose 1.5lbs I'll be happy come on stone award...
