Struggling to get motivated

Hi everyone. Not been on here for a bit and now I'm back hoping to get some support and motivation. I have been on the slimming world EE plan for a couple of years now, going it alone @ home and have lost 3st 5lb so far. My brother has got engaged and is getting married in September. This should be enough to motivate me but somehow it doesn't. Its really getting to me so much so it has me reaching for comfort food. Anyone got any ideas or advice as to how I can motivate myself, get back into the slimming world way and boost my weight loss in the run up to the wedding?

This is what works for me - I should stress that it is a personal view and I know it is not a view shared by most people!

I don't find it helpful to think in terms of motivation. I think of it in terms of a task. Do I need to be motivated to clean the bathroom? Do the ironing (OK, bad example, I hardly ever iron anything!), get the car serviced, do the washing up, change the sheets, wash my hair? No, they are just things I have to do, might not be very interesting, but they need to be done. So they get done, one way or another, without any thought of "motivation".

So I think of SW in the same way. It's a task which needs to be tackled like any other, with planning and organisation. I know what needs to be done, so get on and do it.

I love this, I have never thought about it like that before, thank you!

That is an excellent way of looking at it - thanks!

Plan all your meals and have plenty of healthy snacks in the fridge on stand-by. You said you're reaching for comfort food, there are plenty of SW comfort recipes, also if you are into body magic just get up and do something now, even if you don't feel like doing anything you will soon get into it. Look at before and after pictures, read success stories, visualise what you what to look like in September, buy yourself a new dress or something else but make sure it is 1 size smaller and aim to fit into it by the end of the month, if you like choc and crisps etc then make a syn box and fill it with low syn crisps, Mikado, freddo etc, just don't put in more than 15 syns a day in the box. Be positive, you can do it, you want to do it!! :D

I really like Anna's way of looking at it and it's made me realise that I look at it the same way too - I just wasn't clever enough to realise it, let alone put it into words!

In a major departure for me, I decided this time I was going to lose for me and not for any specific event. This meant I was not putting myself under any pressure and I believe that attitude means I'm less likely to return to the old habits which caused me to put the weight on in the first, and subsequent, place. How often do you read of people who have lost weight for their wedding etc. and then piled it all back on again? I was one of them, and I'm not going to do it again!

Have a think about whether your comfort foods really do comfort you. If they do, try to work out ways in which you can incorporate them into SW. And finally, good luck.

Brilliant advice from Anna.

How about changing it up and trying a week of red days or a week of green days? If you've been doing EE for ages then you might really enjoy having the extra HE's and planning your meals might give you a bit of a boost.

Or a fishy week maybe? Or make a commitment to try and have something new every day.

I find when I start wobbling that if I have a really good look through recipes and try some new stuff that I get all excited about the plan again. (I realise I may well sound like a loon)

This is a great approach and I totally agree with AnnaFaraday it works for me I organize my week with the approach that the house SW and all the busy goings on thought out the week are task bit like a full time job really only the pays not that great and the hours are long lol so I guess I look at it like a business from home :) One of the things I do is make up meal planners with SW EE in mind for our whole family to eat take the pressure out of meal times. It can be really hard sometimes to achieve our goals and we are our biggest critic when we fall down but ever day is a brand new day to start again and take a step closer to our goals and achieve them. You have done amazingly, you have Got this!! and you can do it!! I'm sure people on here will share my thought on this that we are all here to help you along the way. X x x

my motivation for the weight loss is my sister has a surprise for my 40th and i need to be a particular weight - pressure yes but i dont want to let her down, she wont arrange it until i get to this weight so i dont feel under [pressure date wise but if i want my present its my goal.

alternatively (and the reason for 2 of my extra stone) i gave up smoking a year ago and every 2 weeks without a cigarette i treated myself to a massage, facial or pedicure as a reward - perhaps look a treat based incentive
