No support at home. :(

Me and my husband have been married for 3 years, both extremely overweight, and have the same bad eating habits. But at the end of last year I decided enough was enough my new years resoloution will be to change my whole life, I will lose the weight I need to to be healthy, get fit and be confident and happy. I have tried many diets over the years but always given up after losing about a stone, most people who know me, know that my willpower gives up and I go back to old habits.. but this time I will do it! I just need the support from people close to me. I have lost about 16lbs so far and have been excersising regulary yet my husband and my family never say positive things to help me, or say well done! My husband has no desire to lose weight despite having type2 diabetes, and I feel he would rather me stay fat, miserable and have no confidence!

I have just signed up on the couch to 5k program, and I feel proud of myself for making the effort even though im so unfit and really find it difficult even week 1! :( My phone is broken at the moment so I have lost my apps that I was using for help. I don't want my motivation to slip and fail again.
How can I get them to support me?

Hi Donna,

I just wanted to say well done, even though you're not getting the right support at home, 16lbs is absolutely amazing and you've made a brilliant decision, you say you've been exercising regularly too, that takes a lot of determination so congratulations!
Unfortunately, whilst you can make decisions for yourself, you can't force other people to lose weight, he has to make that choice for himself, but he should definitely be trying to help you even if he doesn't want to change! Does he know how much you've lost? Maybe if he knew how well you were doing he'd be much more supportive and see that, though it's hard, it's much easier when you've already started, it might give him the kick up the bum he needs!

Are your family (other than hubby) big? sometimes it's difficult for people to be supportive if they're having issues of their own with their weight, my old boss used to bring in cookies and doughnuts to work to try and throw me off track (even leaving them off my desk) because he couldn't lose anything and couldn't cope with me doing it successfully.

You might have slip-ups, and you might have tough times, but you 100% can do this, even if you're lacking support at home, you will always have people here to support you as long as you need it. Do you have a laptop or anything at home whilst your phone is broken? how about an exercise video at home? I was SO SO unfit when I started dieting, but now I can do a lot of stuff I thought I'd never do, it's incredibly how quickly our bodies adapt, you'll be super-fit in no time, trust me!
XxX

I don't think you can really make people support you but maybe joining a group like SW or WW? Then you can go to the groups and get support from them rather then home? Or start a diary on here and I am sure people will help give you support.

Use any negativity from others as motivation to prove them wrong! Do it for yourself and no one else!

Well done on your weight loss so far. How are you getting on with Couch to 5K?

Welldone on your weightloss. My other half really is unsupportive about my weightloss as he doesnt care about his weight gain but i dont want to be fat anymore. Good luck
