I am Jay,

I am 34 from London and have always been up and down with my weight, and I have tried various diets/fads and have always found that a low carb diet has worked for me.

Last May I was at the gym and I tore a muscle in my chest.. I was in agony and since then I have not returned to the gym and have been eating various bad foods on a daily basis. My Better half was also pregnant at the time and I followed her cravings with KFC, Burger King and various other junk food giants at the same time.

I knew I was putting on weight before Christmas as my clothes were getting tight and then tighter and then I had to buy new clothes to fit.. Then Christmas came along and again I over indulged as you do.

It was only last week that the new jeans that I brought to accommodate my increase in weight started feeling tight! This prompted me to start this diet and change the way I looked and how I felt.

I had always battled with my weight as I enjoy Junk food to much however was able to keep steady with regular visits to the gym "3-4 times a week" and keeping to low carb throughout the week and eating what I wanted on weekends.

Monday the 24th I called the consultant from the Cambridge Diet website and made an appointment to see her. "She lives in the same road2 it must be fate. I got my packs from her and here I am today.

Dear diary..

Ok so day 3 for me I started 25th February 2014 and was told that I could have 4 packs a day.

The last 3 days I have been very strict and kept to the plan 100% I have a shake at 0800 and at 1200. When I get home I have a soup at 1600 and another soup at 2000. I have never consumed so much water in my life and have to admit I miss the diet coke.. I only drink the gold diet coke that’s caffeine free and thought this would be acceptable but was told water only..

I have felt the following side effects:

Headaches
Dizziness
Cramp
Fatigue
Stomach Rumbles
Stomach Cramp "Left side"
Increase in sensitivity in smells "I can smell food from across the office"
Increase to visits to the toilet "water to blame"

I see the above as a negative thing and have read that these are only temporary "I hope that’s the case"

On a positive note I have felt proud that I have stuck to it and know I can do this, I get a great feeling of encouragement when I read various posts on the forum and have replied to some good posts in order to support others that are prob having the same/similar thoughts.

I shall check in when I can and update my diary and let you know how I get on.

Thanks for reading

Jay

Hi jay sounds like you are doing well so far. I am yet to be in ketosis but having done Cambridge before all your side effects are normal and will subside once you're in ketosis :) (although I really can't promise your sense of smell will desensitise...I feel the same way and it is difficult throughout the diet).

i find giving myself stern talkings to actually really help. For example thinking 'if I have a nibble of something I will regret it. And if I don't i won't' another tip for cravings is drinking a huge glass of water as it really will fill you up. Or brush your teeth/swill mouthwash.

Best of luck!

Cambridge is a great diet - you just need to get into ketosis and you'll be fine. The weight will be dropping off you soon - men seem to lose weight so much quicker than women. It all happens really quickly - you buy a pair of jeans a size smaller and in a couple of weeks they are too big. Good luck

Thank you for your replies. :) I am feeling much better today although last night I came in and the better half was eating burgers...!

Day 4

So last night I was very tired. 9 hour shift at work and 1.5 hours travelling each way.. usually tired but felt like I was a bit ill..

Symptoms have died down a little:

Headaches -Gone
Dizziness -Gone
Cramp -Gone
Fatigue -Gone
Stomach Rumbles - Still there
Stomach Cramp "Left side" -Still there
Increase in sensitivity in smells "I can smell food from across the office" Still there and walked out when my friend brought a full english to his desk!
Increase to visits to the toilet "water to blame" Still there - I guess this one is to stay :)

So for me the worst ones are over"For good I hope" had a fruits of the forest shake this morning I have to say I think this is my favorite. I dont know about anyone else but the shaker cups dont always get the clumps out of the shake even with the metal ball.. However I kind of like the lumps makes me feel a bit more texture..

I am finding that the water is bloating me a little..?!

Been bombarded with various tasks at work today so hoping that the day goes quick and I don thave to think about food..

All in all I have to say I dont think this is to much of a big deal. Having the shakes and the water is easy. DONT GET ME WRONG.. I LOVE FOOD.. all kinds good and bad however I know that I will be able to reach my goal if I just stick to it.

I hope that everyone has a great weekend and I am looking forward to finding out if I have lost any weight on Monday for my weigh in...

100% so far since I started yeeeeeeeeeeeey

G'day Jay, how are you getting on? I'm afraid you are just going to have to live with the smell of other peoples food, but don't worry you cant put weight on from smelling it. I walk home from the gym and walk past KFC, Hungry Jacks and I look forward to the smell. Maybe i am a sadist but. Stay strong mate and stick to it 100% and you will get to goal in no time.
