Slim For Good Campaign

So the Slim For Good campaign started in groups yesterday and I was just wondering if we have anyone on here taking part?

For those who don't know the campaign is ran in every group, they all choose and individual charity that is near and dear to the groups heart. Then for the next 6 weeks, those members who wish to, get sponsored to lose weight! You can do either £ for lb or just a flat rate sponsor for your commitment.

Its a fab event that really brings the group together and can raise a load of money for some very deserving charities.

SO
Who is taking part?
What is you goal for the 6 weeks?
What is your chosen charity?
Do you have any tips or boost your weightloss?

I am taking part and aiming to lose at least 7 lb and get my 61/2 stone award. It would be amazing if I lost 14lb and got my 7 stone award (and not totally unreasonable)

The chosen charities for our group are Cancer Connections (south shields based) a trio of blind charities that have the same committee (based in the north east) and my personal charity Charlie 4 CHUF which is a group we set up in my sons name to benefit The Childrens Heart Unit Fund.

My plan is to really focus on superfree and speed foods to help get the results I want. To commit to a food diary for the 6 weeks and to look back to my diaries from the first few weeks when I was newly focused!

.x.x.x.

We are starting this in our group tomorrow night. We have chosen a whole group charity of our local neo-natal dept and there are a lot of us! I for one have sponsors lined up, cant wait to get stuck in for a good cause and also for myself. I aim to loose 2lb a week :)

Hi

im doing it too. I'm just hoping to have a loss every week. Our chosen charity is the Scottish Cot Death. My son Dexter died at 13 weeks and 4 days of cot death in September 2012. I'm so pleased the money is going here, and must admit I had a little cry when I got home.

Just think thats nearly a stone! With a couple of cheeky 3lb weeks it could be! It gives you such a boost doing it for such deserving charities.

Im so sorry for your loss, isn't it great that we can give back and make a difference to help oother people in similar situations. At least you waited until you got home, I was in tears in group! Thats a great aim too, if your consultant follows the SW guides and does 6 weeks image therapy based on ways to boost your weightloss you will get that no problem.x.x.

OUr consultant doesn't believe in us having to go and ask people for sponsorship money so we are not really doing it unless we want to sponsor ourselves x

Aw that's a bit of a shame (unless of course it was a decision by your group. I'm sure you can get the sponsor form from lifeline online or Slim For Good facebook pages if you did want to do it. I think its nice as we were encouraged to choose groups and organisations that mean a lot to our area and local communities. Not that more mainstream charities aren't worthy, just they can afford advertising etc whereas often its the local ones that can't.

It gives you a great incentive to lose too, making that commitment. I have no problem asking for a donation, they're amazing causes and I'm ruddy proud to be a part of SW.x.x.

The group are happy with it and actually I agree with her. Many people don't want to tell people they are losing weight let alone ask people to sponsor them them to lose weight. And it just just doesn't feel right asking for money at a time when so many people are struggling financially. Then there is also the moral question of whether its okay to get money from people for losing weight when it's our fault we gained in the first place lol. Just my opinion though lol and I can understand why others would be happy to take part xx

I don't like asking for money either, however I'm only asking close family and friends who support the charity anyway. It is nice to be able to give something back after all the support they have given me :)

A stone in 6 weeks would be great. I want to stay on track with my 2lb a week from this week until i go on holiday in june, then its 2st before i go on holiday which i'll be happy with. Our consultant is lovely, she has asked everyone if they would like to take part but has made it quite clear it isnt compulsary and she none of us should feel forced. I think all these causes we are doing it for are great and it does give us that extra push :)

this is me - I really don't want to advertise to friends and colleagues that I am trying to lose weight. Another thing is that a lot of my colleagues are also trying to lose weight (through various different plans, not only SW) and not all of them are successful at the moment so although my weight loss is slow and steady I really don't want to be smug and rub it in their faces. And finally I really hate asking people for money.

Our group has not started the campaign yet because our consultant is on holiday and the substitute consultant has said that we will be doing it with our regular consultant when she gets back. TBH I was getting stressed about this because of all the reasons mentioned by Patchworkpuss here, so I am SOOOO relieved to see that I am not the only one feeling like this.

We talked about this in group on Monday, haven't decided which charity yet tho. I'm unsure if I'm gonna participate, it worries me that i might get to stressed out about the goal and screw up my steady weight loss, and i don't have much friends in England since i come from Sweden and currently home carer, so would feel a bit awkward asking the few people i know for money. will probably donate a little bit myself if someone in group choose to do it tho, i think its a lovely idea to try to raise some money for charity.

Sadly we didnt get to start this at group last night as there is a problem with our sponsorship forms. Hopefully it will be sorted for next week, cant wait to start raising money :)

Thats a shame as there are some fab support weeks coming up, did you mention it to them? Anyone who uses lifeline online can see it on there.x.

I only saw it when I came on here (after weigh in!)

Will see if she mentions it next week! TBH group is very flat atm! Its seemed that she had been at work all day and just wanted to get home from what she said :-( Will keep going though and see!

Well we had a massive group photo for local newspaper last night and finally got our sponsorship forms so i'm on it!! Good luck everyone who's taking part!!!

Nobody in our group wanted a sponsorship form so we agreed to give ourselves, a small amount per pound lost so that a donation can be made at the end. Ours will be split between the local children's hospice and local food bank.

All good motivation, good luck to you all :)
