Extra Easy Exercising the day of weigh in

I was just wondering if the scales would show a gain or a smaller loss if I went spinning the morning of weigh in? I weigh in at about 5.30pm.

I doubt it's going to do much of anything.

I've been for a run just before WI and still had a loss of 1lb less than an hour later on the scales at group.

A lot of people claim to not notice a difference on the scales when they take up exercise alongside sw. It would take a lot of heavy lifting to build enough muscle to make difference but you are right with water retention. When you start working out your muscles retain more water. I don't know but maybe drinking more water is the answer to this. It can be off putting but I'm assuming its only for the first few weeks of taking up exercise it doesn't show on the scales??? The plus side is you'll still notice the effects of the exercise in your clothes hopefully.

I know someone who did a class the night before weigh in and she gained. She thought it was coz her muscles were stiff.

People just love to have an excuse for the gains (myself included sometimes!)

I gained last week but I didn't make excuses, I knew why and so I've worked really hard this week to make sure I'm 100% on plan.

Haven't done slimming world just counted calories but I do do alot of spin!! Am now maintaining and actually trying not to drop lower if anything spin will make me drop especially on a Monday night when I do 2 sessions back to back!! Yes I am slightly addicted to spin!! :p good luck on your journey any excersize will actually help your weight loss ;)

Hi Steff. Thanks for that. I'm getting addicted now too.

So I went spinning tonight and weighed myself before and after. I lost a pound. Get it. Suppose I have answered my own question.

I wonder if it would be the same if I did a strength class before weigh in. I will investigate this on Sunday after kettlercise. Lol.

Hello, I've always wanted to do spin classes. My question is, would spinning make my legs huge? Silly question I know but I already have big calfs and that's the thing that's stopped me doing it. I'd appreciate your help.

I'm pretty sure it depends on the water balance. How much you drink, how much you sweat out, and how much your muscles retain to heal themselves. Google DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) which is the pain you get sometimes after a hard workout. It tends to happen the first few times of trying something new, and signifies the muscles growing and repairing themselves, which requires water. I tried a new exercise DVD which basically crippled me for a few days, and both of those weeks I maintained on the scales - I hadn't been great food-wise but might've lost otherwise. On the plus side a couple of weeks later when I wasn't aching at weigh in I got a really good loss.

I cycle to work every day. I'd say I have fairly big thigh muscles - it's a bit annoying as they stick out a little bit over my knees when I tense them up! But to be honest I don't think anyone else would notice this and it is better than wobbly flab. My calves are fairly average and despite upping my exercise, they have shrunk during SW so I've had to tighten up my boots.

See, my thighs aren't too bad, it's my calves that are huge. Thanks for the advice, I might give it a whirl+see how I get on.
