Any hints or tips on coping with night shifts and slimming world I'm on a mission but not easy when rest of staff want to order take away

Pre prepare and plan, thats the best advice I could give you. And theres no reason why the food you make can't be even more tasty than the food your work mates are eating. Take lots of free and super free snacks in and a meal you have made at home. Keeps the hunger pangs away and stops the inevitable guilt of giving in to a takeaway!

Take your own in, something yummy to heat up so you won't feel like you're missing out. If anyone asks and you don't want to tell them about Slimming World then just say you're saving for something so don't want to spend on takeaways

I have weetabix and milk with fruit when I'm on a night shift. It's surprisingly really refreshing in the early hours and I now think it's strange that the others have a proper meal at that hour. Getting into a routine with it is the best thing I find. With cereal, there's no prep and planning involved so it's easy peasy!

Prepare food before your shift and take plenty of snacks.

I work nights too and sometime take loads lol!

Homemade soup in a flask
Sandwiches stuffed with loads of ham and salad.
Sushi packs
Salad and mixed meat like chicken, ham and maybe a boiled egg etc.
Savoury rice mixed with salad and cheese.
Fruits
Yogurt.
Hifi bars or Alpen light bars.
Low syn snacks like crisps, pink and white wafers, mini chocolate bars.

I work shifts too, I've become quite partial to fruit and yogurt just fill a tupper full of a variety of cut up fruit that's quite filling. If I have time in the house before work I may have a meal and then just bring fruit to snack on and jelly that's my other new favourite. I feel like I'm eating all the time but it's all free or super free. Beans on toast or a jacket and beans or I bring the low syn ravioli.

Glad I found this thread! I'm a nurse and about to start my first lots of night shifts (5 weeks) in my new job. I notoriously get very bloated and my metabolism seems to just stop on night shifts and am worried about messing my system up. I hear people say to try not to eat past midnight to keep your body system in sync but this seems impossible for me! I also quite often can feel nauseous :yuk: in the middle of the night due to tiredness, and ideas?

Welcome Missneen! I do try not to eat after my 1am porridge and it's easy enough to be honest as we get so busy after that. It's the 11pm 'tea break' that's the problem!

Out of curiosity, what do you all do? I am a care assistant in a nursing home x

I'm a nurse on a challenging behaviour unit, so we don't really get breaks, you just tend to grab 10 mins where you can! I figured if I just take loads of fruit and a couple of hard boiled eggs in then it'll stop me reaching for the bourbons that are hiding in the kitchen!

Im a nurse on a busy children's oncology ward. On days we sometimes don't get breaks so I bring fruit in tubs so when I walk past I can just grab some and carry on. It was the worst just after Christmas as there was always conveniently a big open box of chocolates next to my fruit!

Oh don't, we had SO many boxes of choc and biscuits from residents families, just wasn't fair!!

Thought I would say hi.
I am also a nurse and work 2 nights a week on a so called short stay surgical ward which is actually a whoever needs a bed ward!
We are always busy so I dont have much time to think about food but always have with me a box of fruit, a muller light and a mug shot just in case.
I find the hardest time is 4am when I am cold, tired and would kill for a biscuit. I have a hifi light in my bag in case desperation sets in.
I always have a full meal before I leave for work and breakfast when I get home.

I also work 2 nights a week in a dementia home. Again no set breaks. I take fruit and normally some left over food like chilli and rice with me. Again boxes of chocolates are the ultimate test. Christmas was a nightmare!!

Always take a mugshot with me and a muller light yoghurt will try to get more organised and take something else for a bit of variety

Im a student nurse, and I struggle with eating patterns on nights too, my worst is 3-4am when I get cold and nauseous and just want a cuppa and biscuit! I like the idea of the weetabix, I will give it a go! I have a meal before I go to work about 6pm but then I realy want my 'lunch' in the middle of the night! I also take a little tub of almonds and sunflower seeds to snack on too xxxx

Maybe you could try a mug shot for that time it's warm and filling or a soup. Yeah i struggle with the 'lunch' thing I tend to eat like pasta at like 12/1 depending how busy it is sometimes later rather fill myself than binge.
