Belly Dancing - Am i nuts?!

Now i'm just a stone away from goal i've finally plucked up the courage to have go at something i've always fancied - belly dancing!

I'm going next Tuesday to a beginners class. Haven't a clue what to expect really, was just told to wear something comfortable. Ooo can't wait now :D

Keep wondering if i've gone slightly nuts, maybe i'm too old for this sort of stuff, i have two left feet. Still at least its unlikely i'll know anyone else there so it doesn't matter too much if i make an @rse of myself :giggle:

excellent sammy!! wish i had the confidence for that!

Thanks Delli, i dunno if its so much confidence as sheer throwing caution to the wind haha, i never had much confidence - and was always the shy retiring type - until i turned forty then started to think, sod it, lifes too short!

The last few years, especially since losing some weight, i've taken chances i'd never of dreamt of before and my life has been all the better for it. Always scary turning up somewhere on your own, travelling on your own etc. but so far i've met lovely people and now have friends on three continents

So probably, what i'm trying to say is, if you want to do it, go for it.

Sammy xx

Good on you Sammy - brilliant that you're giving it a go ...... let us know how you get on :)

Way to go sammymac,
Belly dancing is an awesome fun time, and tones the tummy, a friend teaches a class here. Go, have fun and shake those hips. One is never too old, way to step out of your box, live a little, why not go for it and have fun girl! I myself am going to giving pole dancing a shot!

Oh good for you! Go for it and be sure to let us know how it goes. I did look into it, and Burlesque but the nearest classes i can find are in London. Saturday daytime ones were all booked and i don't fancy going into town on my own in an evening. On my list for the future though!

Thanks all for your comments and i'll report back here Tuesday night to let you all know how it goes!

I would love to try it - don't think anywhere near me does it anyway. Let us know how you get on.

Looking forward to hearing how it went...

Well, i went last night, and........

Really enjoyed it!! Lots more people there than i imagined there would be, the age range must have been from early 20's to about 60 and all shapes and sizes so i didn't feel out of place at all.

We did a warm up which included some wiggly belly dance moves then over the hour we were shown, a bit at a time, a routine which by the end of the hour we could all do.

Can't say that my brain engaged entirely with my body some of the time but i'm sure that will come with practice. Certainly enjoyed it and look forward already to next week.

Muscles didn't ache too much this morning, so all in all very happy :D

sounds great sammy, its so much easier sticking to an exercise regime if u enjoy it so this should hopefully keep u fit and toned!

my DD and I used to go just before Christmas and we loved it! Didn't go after cos I hurt my hip (old crock) and really should restart! We got the costumes when we went to Turkey in the summer. Cheap as chips there. Have fun next week!

Sounds like you had great fun Sammy - should be even better next week when you're not so full of beginners nerves too.

Thanks everyone!

Hey Big Birdy know what you mean about the old hip thing - being nearer to 50 than 40 i get a few twinges meself!

Yes, very enjoyable and highly recommended. Will work on getting my brain to connect with my arms, legs and hips over the next few weeks!

You are most certainly not too old and i think it is a fantastic idea. Report back to us soon as!

You Will Be Fine.... And Trust Me You Will Learn How To Do It.... Its Really Easy After A While!

And No You Are Not To Old!!!!
