Nikon D40X

Needed a new digital camera and after weeks of researching reviews and prices on the internet for anything from about £70 upwards i decided on the Nikon D40X bought as a kit with the Nikon 18-55mm DX ED lens. I hadn't really intended spending quite so much - £360  with Nikon's current cashback offer but had also saved up some money for a lightweight tripod which will have to now wait until next year!

Having played around with the camera over the weekend i must say i'm really impressed with the picture quality, plus the fact that its light enough to carry around for hours on end.

With so much to choose from it can be difficult to find the one that suits.

Your photos are beautiful! I hope you have lots of enjoyment and fun from your new camera.:)

Well done!

Aw, thanks Mini! and thanks for putting my pics in your post, i just couldn't figure out how the heck to do that

And yes i will enjoy using it very much, i've loved photography since i saved up 10 shillings (depending on your age you may or may not remember them LOL!) for my first camera when i was 8 years old.

I'm lucky enough to be going travelling this year, starting in a couple of months time with 6 weeks in Canada so really really wanted something i could take some nice pics with.

You click on the picture and it gets bigger, you can then copy it and paste it into your post. However sometimes the image is too big and it just blows the post out across the screen. Yours were a nice size to do it.

It is a wonderful hobby...have you exhibited your photos?

Very exciting and I am sure you will get loads of interesting photos in Canada...

Be sure now to show us some more of your wonderful photography and let us know how your hobby is going.:)

Thanks Mini

Instructions much appreciated!

No have never exhibited any photographs but when i lived up in Scotland i made cards from my photographs and sold them at a local craft fair once a month and got a lot of satisfaction from that.

Lovely photos! Does the D40x have an auto focus built in or does it require an auto focus lense? I am still using a nikon D50 but I am looking to buy a new dslr, and the new D40's are just so neat looking!

The Nikon D40 (not D40 x) has a lens that handles autofocus; you set the autofocus by flipping a switch on the lens. From time to time it gets in the way, like if you want to take a photo of something in the background, with an item in the foreground, it may choose to focus in on the item in the foreground. It happened a few times to me while photographing in the great outdoors; but it's not like you can't correct it or turn it off.

It's still a fantastic camera, though. Wouldn't trade mine :)
