I have my Lighter Life Intro Session today, and all I know so far that this programme is an abstainance programme where you have liquids and also therapy sessions... I am interested to know whether or not the therapy sessions help change your mindset..are you sticking to the plan 100% without cheating? How have the group sessions helped you to achieve your goals? Can therapy help eliminate food obsession?

I find the sessions to be really helpful, and the more you put into them, the more life-changing the whole process is. The exercises really will help you figure out why you overeat and how to stop yourself from doing it. This is my second time on the program, but I'm still starting over 50 pounds lighter than the first (and was maintaining that weight). Even though the topics are the same, I learn more about myself every time I go.

Good luck, I hope you find it helpful too.

I am coming up on 5tk week weigh in on Monday, and have been 100%.

The classes are useful, and you do get out of them what you put in to them, but so far, the thing keeping me 100% is sheer will power and determination. A positive attitude is ESSENTIAL!!!! Just make failure NOT an option, and tell yourself that 500 times a day if you have to!!

Good luck!! And welcome!!

I am sticking to the plan 100% to me that is an essential part of my personal weightloss journey. The therapy sessions have helped me a lot, but miss fenella is right that the hard work comes from you. The sessions have helped me realise a lot about why i eat, more than just 'i comfort eat' it goes deeper than that and the sessions help you to realise a lot of different things about your own relationship with food. Within the group some people will have the same food issues and others will be completely different, but the support you get from each other is fantastic.
Good luck with the induction

I have started week 4 today and have been 100% all the way through.
Its not always going to be easy- but the people in my group that have lasped once most of them have gone on to do it again.
So I just tell myself that if I dont let it happen once it cant happen a second time!
Good luck!
You need to get ur mind focused and keep ur goals very near and u will be finnnee!!

I've got my 5th weigh in tomorrow and I'm still 100% all there, completely on track and hopefully will be staying there through to June/July when I hope to reach Maintenance ..... it's packs all the way!

The classes do help but the willpower has to be your own. I am the only person in my group who is 100%, the others do eat during the week but I can't do that - I'm definitely an all or nothing type and if I slip and cheat I knwo that I'll continue to do so.

LOL so it is ..... mustn't be too bad this dieting lark :D

I'm a 100%-er too, although I must admit I don't feel that I need much will power.

Will power is not my strong point, but if I'm honest I've found abstaining from food MUCH easier than limiting it. It's easy to have a few extra fries, or another slice of toast etc. But when the rules are black and white, it's easy to stick to.

It also helps you recognise when you're really hungry and when you're not. I do get these hunger pangs and realise what they're triggered by now. Little things like adverts on the telly, or just watching a soap and the family are eating. If I was on a programme where I was allowed to eat, I would probably not even notice the trigger and just go and get something. Whether that something was healthy or not wouldn't matter - it was still calories I didn't need or genuinely want.

Being able to step away from food has given me an opportunity to examine my relationship with it. I haven't come to any conclusions yet (I've only done 2 weeks!) but already I feel positive I can lose this weight AND keep it off, and I can't wait for when I start eating again so that I can put all this into practice and prove to myself and others that I CAN DO IT!

I'm with you Toller - I can do the abstaining and it doesn't bother me that much but I cannot ever limit what I'm eating ---- that is what I need to learn from counselling and my LLC knows this and is great about it. When I stopped doing LL to go on hols etc last year I just couldn't cope with limited food ---- but I'll learn :D

Hi I definiteley know it helps because its our minds that lead us over eat not our appetites other wise we would stop when the stomach was full over eating is painful in many ways despite the pain it causes we still do it until we re learn and keep practicing and then challenging as the successful maintainers seem tio have done.

Taking the food away is removing us from the substance but habits are another thing i am looking forward to R.T.M and am seeing it as a daily practice like my Qi Gong the more i practice the healthier i become mentally physically.
I Know its hard work but 45 years of habits have to go as i dont want to waste any more time on my life yo yo ing .

I know that i can do this. Maria

For me it helps to have the support of people in the same boat. It stops that guilt feeling and helps your self esteem. Personally, once I got into Ketosis I stopped feeling hungry and now I have to remind myself to eat (thats a huge difference for me!). I definitely think the meetings help to keep you focused and on track but its really all down to your own mind set aswell.

Good luck :)

Hi

I did 20 weeks 100% SS, on LL for 11 weeks and CD for 9. I initially found the counselling and group work helpful...it gave you some insight into your eating. However, I found the break from food was great...and so much easier than a diet where eating is involved. Eating again is quite scary but can't be avoided! I think the time away from 'normal' food helped change my habits, although i'll always be a recovering foodaholic!

I've been on LL for coming up to 12 weeks, I have remained in abstinence 100% of the time... mainly because I'm so scared if I fall off once that I won't get back on it!! I do believe that the counselling can help you understand why you have the issues with food that you do but I agree that only one person can retrain you and that is YOU! I wish you every success in your lighterlife journey... personally, I think the abstinence is the easier bit... the eating food bit scares the hell out of me!:eek::eek::):eek::eek:

I have just finished foundation and lost 3 pounds short of four stone. My success has not only been due to will power and shear determination but due to the wonderful support of my group and having the worlds best lighter life counsellor. The counselling will help you understand why you have put on so much weight and give you tools to maintain your weight loss. Like an alcoholic you will always have a tendency to overeat as they do to over drink. LL will provide you with the tools to treat your food addiction but the hard work will still be up to you. My advice is to find a counsellor who has already done the LL programme and who you really click with. Good-Luck!! It is really the most wonderful journey to weight happiness and self acceptance.

I'm a 22 weeker! Been abstinent now since the 11th September. All the advice above is priceless but my keys are:
1. Participate actively in the sessions; you will learn so much more and the journey is a lot more personal. It will help you to stay on the straight and narrow.
2. Fill your life up with other things apart from food.
3. Accept that there will be difficult times and prepare for them. I have a list of things I do when I'm desperate: Have a bath, read, go out and window shop. Any distraction really.
4. Have a support network of friends and family that you can call on.
5. Do the weekly homework. Sometimes it seems silly but really it helps so much.
6. Most of all, see this as a journey of self-discovery. Cheating even once, from what others seem to have experienced, will only make that journey longer and harder to sustain.
Best of luck. This is the best diet you will ever do.

Linze you've done amazingly well - you must be grinning from ear to ear to be so close to goal :)
