pcos and trying for a baby

HI i am new to forums and also to this site. i have been trying for a baby for 5 years now and obviously had no success. i have pcos and the wierd thing is i have had a baby before (but with a different partner). we have been turned down for ivf on nhs and they said oh just lose a stone and we think youll get pregnant so last year i lost over a stone (stil got 2 i could comfortably do with losing) however, if anything it's made my periods worse. it's almost like i'm going through menopause at the moment. has anyone else experienced periods getting worse after they have lost weight?

sorry if i said too much personal stuff. as you can imagine it's all i think about.

Hi :)
I have pcos and when I got pregnant with my daughters 12 & 15 yrs ago now my GP had prescribed me clomid as women with pcos seams to have problems ovulating and clomid this makes your ovaries release more eggs. has this been offered? have they investigated all other options ovarian drilling ect?
At the time i was ttc my periods were all over the place. I didnt have weight issues and I was at a healthy weight then but there was problems with ovulation owing to the cysts on my ovaries.
Do you keep track of your cycle at all? the mydays app for the iphone is really good and works out your cycle and predicted ovulation days by tracking your periods. I know at least 2 people that have gotton pregnant since tracking on there.
I can understand its all you think of Ive been there.
Good luck x

hey ya. oh it's a long story with me. I have about 3 periods a year and did the tests that showed that i do not produce eggs / ovulate. so i had a laparoscopy (where i died twice on the table) and then they put me on clomid 100mg for 6 months. That didn't work either so htey have dropped me and my case saying ill have to go private. its so expensive to buy ovulation tests. i normally do one every single day so 30 a month or so just to give me an idea of what's going on. ill have a look at my days app - that's really helpful thanks

Hey. Were do you get your ovulation test strips from?

I got a batch of about 50 from amazon really good price s:)

I don't mean to sound a killjoy but I have PCOS and have had two periods in the past 18 months. I'm seeing a fertility specialist who told me that opk's might not work with PCOS. So I googled and came back with this:

http://www.womens-health.co.uk/ovulation-kits-pcos.html

Obviously they might work depending on your cycle but I figure if its not going to work I'm not spending a huge amount on them.

I second buying a batch from Amazon. It's a lot cheaper.

I only have a period once every 6month most times, and that's brought on bye medication. But I did find I was doing a opk every day for several months and they didn't work for me.

Hiya,
I am 34 and have PCOS and I don't have periods at all, i think my last natural one was about 5 years ago!! I've been TTC for 11 years but its impossible when you're not producing eggs!
I have been told countless times that its my weight and I lost 2 stone, nothing changed. I recently pushed for a hysteroscopy because of the complications associated with not having periods, the results should be in on Friday.... if thats ok then I can proceed with IVF at a private clinic. They accept a BMI of 35.
xx

I see I see. That's my worry,I don't want to be trying for years and years. Are you within a 35 bmi?:)

Yes, I'm at 33.1 now. The best advice I can give is don't let them fob you off. Keep pushing until you get what you want.
x

Yes, def would second that. Keep pushing them and dont let them fob you off. I have PCOS and was TTC for some time. We adopted three beautiful children in the end.

Same for me, dye went straight through but I've got bits of endo need cutting away. I didnt go in until nearly 12, home for half three. Bit of pain now and can't get comfy in bed cos I sleep on my belly usually but worth it. Hope you're ok and not in too much pain xx

I knew I had polycystic ovaries anyway because I've had three scans and countless blood tests that have confirmed it so that wasn't a surprise. I think endo can be really painful, my supervisors daughter has it and she gets hospitalised often due to pain and bleeding. I get bad pain but it's quite sporadic so I manage. The cutting it out is just another keyhole thing so should be pretty much the same as this time.
I've had a bit of shoulder pain and managed to get some sleep but wide awake now and it's only ten to seven. Grr.
Xx

Awww hopefully its done and dusted for you soon so you can move on to the next step :)... He told me early on I had pcos but just thought he might have mentioned something about cysts I will have to ask him at next appointment... I've been wakening through the night. At 4 then 6.30 and then 9 running to the toliet everytime I think its because my mouth was so dry after the tubes were down it cus wen I wakened up my mouth felt like sandpaper lol so I've been drinking loads of water and tea xx
