What's Different This Time?

The old me is coming back
Hi Guys,

I am re-starting Cambridge Diet on Monday next – currently at all time heaviest weight of 16 stone. Got to 10 stone with Lipotrim in 2006, stayed that weight for approx 2 weeks and then started the re-gain. I got married in September last year at 12 stone (had reached 14 but lost 2 before the wedding with Cambridge). Have been totally out of hand for the last few months and have gained a massive 4 stone in the last 4 months – horrific. So have the packs got and am ready for a re-start!

So, the question I have – people who have lost and re-gained and are trying for the second time. What’s different this time? How are you going to loose all that and not pile it on again? What can I do – stuff to read, prepare for ending better? I am on this again cause it’s re-start or die from obesity eventually. Last time I finished I just went crazy and was scared how quick the weight went back on. How have people who have maintained managed?

Thanks!

I think the valuable lesson that I have learnt is that in order to succeed you MUST follow the steps, otherwise its a waster of your time and effort!
Why SS for however many weeks, to have to do it all again!
Nope, def def def not - I learnt my lesson the hardway. I intend to SS then 790, then 1000 and go up until I find exactly what I need to eat to maintain myself at the size I will be then......

Well done on your re-start, I'm on Day 17 of a re-start and feel blinding! x

Hi Mitten

On day 1 of my 2nd restart I certainly do not have all the answers... but this time round I can definitely learn from my mistakes last time. For me, not working up through the plans was a big issue as I started eating "normally" (translate badly!) straight after SS with no adjustment, and the freedom was both wonderful and horriffic!!!

The amazing thing about this diet compared to others is that you know, if you just stick to it, and let the diet do its thing- you WILL LOSE WEIGHT, AND QUICK! My big motivation this time round is my 30th birthday in May as I do not want to look back and photos feeling ashamed and disappointed in myself.

The challenge for me and for you maybe is the maintenance of the weight, and reducation of how to enjoy food normally without the regain and yo-yo. I know thats my issue anyway-

Good luck with the restart- keep us posted!

Scarlett x

Thanks guys.

I also did not work back up through the plans or re-feed properly on the plans. I was like “yippee”, food here I come.
This time around I am going to try and work my aam week into 2 weekends away I have and try and learn control through that. I am terrified of doing very well for 3 or 4 weeks and then eating and going out of control. I have gotten a few books to read re. Binge eating etc and am hoping to change my way of thinking and break the cycle along the way.
Fingers crossed for a good re-start on Monday so – get that off I suppose before I worry about anything else!
Have ye a straight run off Cambridge now or any breaks etc planned?

Good luck with your re-start!
I'm only coming to the end of week four, but all the advice seems to be you have keep upping the plans gradually, and not get back into old habits.
Have to say it worrys me how I will handle it,and even now I'm worried about putting the amount I have lost already back on,never mind if I got to goal!
I think you just have to take advice and support from whereever you get it!

good luck on your restart ............... i am proper day 2 ......after loosing 3 st by march 2007 put on 2st by eating cakes !!!!!

My gorgeous counsellor said that EXERCISE is the key - after SS and such a low intake, your metabolism will be through the floor and needs some movement to get it going... So that's my plan!:character00116::party0049::party0011:

Definitely start some exercise to get your metabolism going, also it's important to pick a realistic goal and make sure you get to it - then set new goals around maintaining (obviously work up through the plans). Keep going back to get weighed and with your CDC set very firm parameters to keep your weight between.

Accept that if you are prone to overeating you will need to be on some form of eating plan pretty much forever - i never met any slim person who was formerly overweight that didn't have to work at it to a certain extent. It does get easier (i'm told!). The killer is seeing the diet as the be all and end all and then having a "yippee i'm off the diet" mentality - it isn't, it's just Phase 1 - then it's time to start Phase 2 which is exercise and maintenance which continues for ever!!!

Kitten, ive been and done what you have. I leapt into food and didn't go up the phases. Mind you I kept most of the weight off for a year. This time (my final time), I'm going to do all the phases and exercise when i am at goal. Just so much out there to do when slim. The others are right its a whole life change now and in the future, it doesn't just stop when you hit that magic number. Much to my disgust I hasten too add! I can tell you exactly when and how I began to regain. Likewise I can tell you that through a vlcd I identified all the reasons I was fat, I just forgot them along the way.
Not easy for us at all, but plough on cos it will be worth it in the end.

I come from LL lost my weight last year ,I stopped short of my goal
put on 1 stone + alittle in 2 months and have stayed the same more or less since then
I have restarted with CD to lose my 2 stones I think the trick is to know you can never eat the way you did before the diet ,find out what works your life style , stay on top of it and if you go up a few pounds stop it
dont!!!!!!! let it be stones..........

Hi Mitten

I've been maintaining since October. With other diets I went back to my old eating habits...but a 20-week break from food on a VLCD gave me a bit of a new outlook. I didn't work up the plans formally but am eating low GI foods and worked up to 2000 cals a day over the first few weeks. The low GI books by Patrick Holford are really good and being veggie I also use Rose Elliot's Veggie Low GI cookbook. I don't eat bread or potatoes, ice cream, crisps etc any more. Instead I take oatcakes, oat biscuit, and yoghurts, for example. I still have CD bars instead of chocolate. I'm not saying I've cracked it tho' ....every day is a challenge! I'm a recovering foodaholic and can't relax for a minute...lol! Hope this helps. Good luck!

I couldnt agree more with htpink. I lost and very quickly regained 3 stone last year. I went staright from sole source to binging literally overnight. I did not follow stabilisation and maintenance at all. I fully accept now that I will probably have to follow some kind of plan for life. I plan to do 2 weeks minimum each on all of the cd plans. After the 1500 cal plan, I plan to either count calories or join weight watchers.

Good luck on your restart. It definitely can be done. Don't dwell on the fact you have regained. Use it to your advantage. You know more than most people now just how important it is to change your habits for life in order to maintain.

Take care and keep us updated on your progress. :)

Thanks so much you guys – this site really is amazing and to have a resource like this with others who understand the problems is truly brilliant.

I am going to try and use my time on the SS programme this time to re-educate and plan ahead. You guys are right – this is not a diet for a few months, life time changes will have to be made and I need to get into some sort of reasonable routine to set myself up for life. No one I know who is slim doesn’t work at it and make cutbacks. I am going to get into a routine of walking 5 days a week and then when food is re0introduced work up through the programmes. I never did AAM before – just went head first into eating and stuffing myself and haven’t really stopped since.

Thanks guys!

PS – how do you find exercising on SS, have you enough energy?

Hi Mitten

I exercised a fair bit but you'll have to drink even more water to make up for what you are sweating out. Also, be careful of getting up quickly when you're exercising as SS tends to make you a bit dizzy!

I find I can't exercise very well on SS. It just gets me all shaky and I feel awful. That could be cos I've gone from doing sod all, to eating sod all at the same time! This time I am being gentle on my wee self in the beginning. I found my skipping rope today......I said I found it not used it! Next week, ie week 2 for me I shall try to up the pace a bit. Where does Becky get all her energy from? 16,000+ steps today. Amazing.
