Really Worried about ketosis now

Ajax

Finally...Life begins
Hi,

I am still not sure what to do, I restarted back on Cambridge on Monday evening ( i hadn't followed a low carb plan before hand) but was in ketosis when I went to bed on tuesday night! - slightly pink.

By wednesday morning and everytime I have tested since, its now dark dark purple. I am told this is a sign of dehydration? But I have upped my water intake this time to 4 litres, - only used to do 2.5 a day, plus maybe one can of coke zero.

I have only had plain water, and some days over 4 litres, I can't manage anymore at the moment but of course am worried about what can happen if i stay in deep ketosis? Yes I love it because I am not hungry and the weight is falling off me, I weighed 19st 4.5 pounds on tuesday morning, the scales this morning say i am 18st 7.0 thats just in 5 days. Ok I know there can be big losses in the first weeks, but i never went dark purple unless I hadn't managed my water!!

I feel fine, going to the loo very regularly (tmi - light straw colour, clear by the afternoon)

Any advice? What can i do?

If you are doing the diet and drinking the water, then the stix are misbehaving.

I couldn't even get them to go pink, let alone purple  Still managed to lose 8 stone though. Norty stix.

If you are testing first thing in the morning then they are likely to be dark. Have you tested towards the end of the day when you've had most of your water?? If so and they are still dark purple, there would be no harm in checking the situation out with your GP or practice nurse. Don't mean to worry you, just better safe than sorry. Also, check that the ketostix are within the use by date or buy a new batch. It could just be that the stix are faulty.

Hiya, Yes I have tried at different intervals throughout the day to see if they change. The only time I see it pink is when I very first get into ketosis, then its always always Purple. The stix are in date, - what else would the GP/Nurse be looking for?

Oh, I think I've worried you now Angela. Not my intention at all.

It's just that the info pamphlet that comes with my ketostix suggests a dark purple colour is a danger sign. But this is for people who are insulin dependent diabetics and indicates a serious condition called diabetic keteocidosis (spell error I'm sure). Of course I've just realised that GP's can't sign off the diet forms if someone is an insulin dependent diabetic. This is what raised the red flag for me hence the check it out with your GP suggestion. What does your CDC say??

They just said to up my water intake as much as poss, but without going ott, and to let them know at next weigh in. I am just about to email them now, see what they say. :0)
