driving home in my car today, queens 'i still love you' came on and i broke my heart, thinknig about how sad and ill Freddy looked in the video. Silly moo lol

So I thought I would ask y'all, what song makes you cry when you hear it, and why?

angels by robbie think most peeps start to think of loved ones that have past with this one for me its my grandparents .not tears of sadness they were the greatest so so many happy times xxx

A very old song that my mum sang to us when we were babies. I've always sung it to my 2 and it always brings a lump to my throat. Don't know the proper title or who sang it, it's from the forties I think, but the words are

You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are grey
You'll never know dear
How much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

there was a song Christina Aguilera released this time last year, at the same time as my grandad died, and part of the lyrics are 'are you looking down upon me, are you pround of who i am'. (i think thats the right lyrics) it really upset me at the time and i still cry when i hear it.

You Are My Sunshine

The other night dear, as I lay sleeping,
I dreamed I held you in my arms,
but when I woke dear, I was mistaken,
and I hung my head and cried.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
you make me happy when skies are gray
you'll never know dear, how much I love you,
please don't take my sunshine away.

I'll always love you and make you happy
if you will only say the same
but if you leave me to love another
you'll regret it all some day

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
you make me happy, when skies are gray,
you'll never know dear, how much I love you,
please don't take my sunshine away.

You told me once dear you really loved me
that no one else could come between
but now you've left me and love another
you have shattered all my dreams.

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
you make me happy, when skies are gray,
you'll never know dear, how much I love you,
please don't take my sunshine away.

Just thought I'd post this for you Mrs Depp;)

Eric Clapton's Tears in Heaven. He wrote that after the death of his 4 year old son :(

Paul McCartney's Here Today. Paul wrote this about John Lennon after John died. Lyrics so perfectly suited to Pauls relationship with John.

Max Bruche Violin Concerto: My mother has this playing on the record player day in and out for weeks after the death of my father.

Top tip:
If you are feeling sad, do not listen to sad music!! For a research paper I did, I needed to make people gloomy and low spirited, before testing how they managed various tasks. One of the best way to do this, was to play them sad music.

Always try to follow it with something cheery ;)

I can't believe anyone replied, but it is so nice to read how music affects everyone and how it brings memories to life. I have so many memories of past loves, past heartaches, and people who aren't with me any more that are brought up by songs that its nice to read that i'm not the only one, thanks for sharing, more more more :)

Doesn't actualy make me cry but I always have to stop what I'm doing and listen and I always, always get goose bumps when I listen to Patrick Swazeye 'She's Like the Wind'..... reminds me of someone very very special a long long time ago who things were complicated for and we couldn't be together...:( Often wonder what would have been if things had been different......

I also love and they remind me of special times in my yoof.....:D

Babe by Styx
Always & Forever by Heatwave
Keep on Loving You by REO Speedwagon
Reunited by Peaches & Herb

Real classic love songs....:)

Hi Mrs D, my Mum used to sing this to me and my bro when we were kids too :D

There's a place for us
Somewhere a place for us
Peace and quiet and open air
Wait for us
Somewhere

There's a time for us
Some day a time for us
Time together and time to spare
Time to look, time to care
Someday
Somewhere

We'll find a new way of living
We'll find there's a way of forgiving
Somewhere

There's a place for us
A time and place for us
Hold my hand and we're halfway there
Hold my hand and I'll take you there
Somehow
Someday
Somewhere

There's a place for us
Hold my hand and we're halfway there
Hold my hand and I'll take you there
Somehow
Someday
Somewhere
This song is sad because my step mum chose this before she died in Feb 07 , and it was sang on Xfactor ...

'Drive' by the cars always makes me get teary eyed
anyone who remembers live aid ( the original : ) ) will remember the heart breaking video

Just thought I'd post this for you Mrs Depp;)

I've just come back to this thread and found that you've printed the words for me Zoe. Thanks ever so much hun! Amy and I have just had a lovely singalong together! XXXX :D:D

Hi Mrs D, my Mum used to sing this to me and my bro when we were kids too :D

Aww Sarah that's a coincidence isn't it? Whenever I mention it to people they just look at me like I'm from another planet lol! It's lovely to know someone else's mum sang it too. It's such a special song to me and my 2. :D

my mum did too, god, memories. i had forgotten what her voice sounded like and that reminded me. that memory on its own was well worth starting this thread!

'nothing compares to u' by sinead o connor always makes me struggle not to cry as my first real love used to sing it to me. even now, happily married as i am, whenever i hear it i think of him :(

'Through the Barricades' by Spandau Ballet.

It was the song I had the honour of choosing for my nephew's funeral in June. It was played as his coffin was carried into the crematorium chapel.
I chose it because it was No.1 the week he was born, November 10th 1986.
The last two lines are the ones that especially make me cry

Mother doesn't know where love has gone
She says it must be youth that keeps us feeling strong
I see it in her face that's turned to ice
And when she smiles she shows the lines of sacrifice
And now I know what they're saying as our sun begins to fade
And we made our love on wasteland and through the barricades

Father made my history
He thought for what he thought would set us somehow free
They taught me what to say in school
I learned it off my heart but now that's torn in two
And now I know what they're saying in the music of the parade
And we made our love on wasteland and through the barricades

Born on different sides of life
We feel the same and feel all of this strife
So come to me when I'm asleep
We'll cross the lines and dance upon the streets
And now I know what they're saying as the drums begin to fade
And we made our love on wasteland and through the barricades

Oh turn around and I'll be there
There's a scar right through my heart but I'll bear it again
Oh I thought we were the human race
But we were just another borderline case
And the stars reach down and tell us there's always one escape

I don't know where love has gone
And in this troubled land desperation keeps us strong
Fridays child is full of soul
With nothing left to lose there's everything to go
And now I know what they're saying it's a terrible beat we made
And we made our love on wasteland and through the barricades

And now I know what they're saying as our hearts go to their graves
And we made our love on wasteland and through the barricades

John Lennon Beautiful Boy(darling boy)
This was played at my friends funeral and I cry anytime I hear it now:(
