Body Aches.....Age? Or weight related??

Blonde Logic

Yes. You can.
Seven years ago, when I hit the magical age of Forty, when all the mechanical bits of my body passed their sale by date, and the warranty expired, things started to hurt. Now I had been warned about this in my 30s by an older friend who was in her 40s. I put it down to her being dramatic and cynical.

But then, by god, at the stroke of midnight of my 40th birthday - things DID start to hurt!!! And things DID start to fall apart!!!
SO I thought by gum! She was RIGHT!!! Wretched woman!!! :D

But - it was also just about that time that my excess weight went from being a nuisance and an annoyance, to really balooning out of control to now being a burden. In the last 7 years, the weight I have gained has crossed the line to where it is surely has got to be affecting my skeleton.

I am hopeful, and wondering from those of you who are older (lets face it - age DOES have some impact on our frames)....but did you find after losing alot of weight - did things stop hurting?

My feet hurt constantly. My knees are unstable (mostly due to breaking both of them when I was 19 and having half a dozen or so surgeries to try and make as good as they could until I will one day have them both replaced-but the weight has an impact. That goes without saying.) But all of my joints hurt. So I don't know which is more to blame - weight, or crossing that magical age.

I have mostly attributed it to age - but am hopeful more of it is to do with weight?

So my question (at last! I hear you cry!) is have you found a difference after losing weight? Do things stop hurting?

I will be waiting, with fingers crossed. They are about all I can cross. :D

Well I'm 36 and I have found that my back aches a lot now...BUT...when I was 34 I did LL and lost 6 stone and my back ached then before I started and had stopped by the time I came off LL.I then gained back weight until I was only 2 stone under my previous starting weight, and my back started hurting. I am pretty sure that once I lose another 2 stone it will stop hurting again. So in answer to your question, I think it's more weight related than age related...maybe once you hit 50 you can blame it on your age :p HTH

lol - I will take any glimmer of hope there is!! I consider myself a pretty strong lady with a high tolerance for pain, and it drives me crazy to no end to constanly be saying OW about something! My poor husband - he probably thinks I am becomming a hypochondriac!! But it is all very real, and very unwelcome!!!!

I'm not ready to accept daily aches and pains!! Oh no I'm not!! Too young too feel this old, so hoping to find a difference.

Losing weight will make a LOT of difference :) I'm looking forward to all my achy joints going too.

i'm 36 and one of the reasons i lost weight was becuase my leg circulation felt sluggish and as if the y were really heavy and aching....

I have to say as the weight came of all those feelings went away!!!!

Hope that helps.... Not looking forward to the clock striking 40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the members in my group who is in her late 40s said last week that she has stopped aching, especially her feet. She said she went Xmas shopping for an entire day in non-comfortable shoes and at the end of the day realised her feet were fine. Take heart!

Oh yes!!! I'm 51 and can't believe how much better I feel in terms of 'aching'. My feet used to always ache after the smallest of walks, yet now I can walk miles to the shops and back again, and still get myself a coffee and the dinner on when I return.

It's one of the biggest differences I've noticed

Of course, my hair has started to fall out (not on any diet:eek:) and my brain went missing long ago, but no pain!

I definitely found that I had a lot less aches and pains after I'd lost weight (almost 8.5 stone in total). I can also walk farther without getting sore feet, don't get out of breath walking up stairs/steep inclines, can dance for hours and generally have bags more energy.

Oh yeah - and I'm 51 next month :D:cool:

Now bear in mind we'll want to know the exact day your aches and pains go away :)

Interesting thread. I am 37 and started LL 2 weeks ago. Really need to lose the weight as I get terrible backache all the time. In fact everything hurts lol, if I wear high heels, i get sore ankles, if do too much moving around, I get sore feet... its never ending !

So am very happy to hear that people do see a big difference in losing the weight. Cant wait to get to goal!

Yep - much less pain since I've lost the weight - used to get knee aches - not had one for AGES now! Also ached after riding (horses) but even that seems to have stopped, and all of this was from old injuries, so hopefully you'll be fine. Afterall, its GOT to help! You think how much you ache after carrying a heavy bag - and I doubt any of us carried bags as heavy as the weight we're losing/lost!

Deb, I know what you mean, and that sounds hopefuL!

My ex husband was a bit of an ignorant bully. I say that because he wasn't really mean in his heart - he was just, well, stupid really, and he was not very kind about my weight.

I tried to explain to him that while he trots along merrily, he must stop and realise that I am trotting along with him, essentially carrying 2 50 pound bags of dog food!! He didn't get it. Which is why he is my EX. :D

I can't wait to feel the difference. :)

I have definitely noticed a difference in aches and pains, I went shopping all day on Saturday and I didn't ache at all after.
I sleep better and don't wake up with an aching back any more.
