Losing weight but a lack of control over meals?

Hi, I'm relatively new so please bear with me!

I'm in my first year at uni, and I'm in halls. Upsides: great people, 24 hour parties.
Downsides: it's catered and so much cheap junk food round here.

Now, my main point of this thread was to highlight my dilemma at the lack of control, being in catered halls, that I have. Just for the record, I did request self-catered but no one seems to get what they actually ask for in these accommodation applications!

It's mainly dinner that I'm having my issues with. Breakfasts were cooked full englishes usually, so I've resorted to buying in my own cereal/fruit and having that for breakfasts. Lunch is for another topic. Dinner is what I cannot control.

One day its fish and red sauce, pasta and veggies (like I had today) and others its fatty curries and chips with fatty puddings.

I cannot keep buying my own food to cook for dinners as I simply cannot afford it, at £94 a week, I'm paying for the privilege of this food, but sometimes it's a real gripe.

Also, the food isn't always the nicest, so I end up wanting to snack from 8pm onwards. It's awful.

So, I was just wondering, those of you who cannot control your food so much, what the frell do you do? I am stuck :(

It is one bugger of a dilemma!

They do have a salad bar on option, but the sauces are all full fat mayo/dressings, and a bowl-full of cubed cucumber doesn't always seem that appealing

It is an utter embuggerance I tell you ;) :p

Are you able to "opt out" of the £94 per week for meals? If so, then you would be able to buy your own of your own choice. If not, is there anyone on the Catering side that would take some suggestions for low-fat dishes. In the days of Jaimie Oliver you would think that large educational institutions would take what he is trying to teach onboard.

Thats an idea actually. I am quite prepared to speak to the head of catering!

I'm not sure I can opt out, I did look into it - but they weren't the most helpful of administration staff!

I would definitely try the opt out approach, push your point home, saying you can't eat what is provided, and therefore you are not paying for something you are not having! I know when hubby and I stayed in B and Bs I always asked for (and got) a reduced price cos I didn't have the brekkie! But then that's me, Mrs Stand up for Your Rights! lol

Hi, This is a really late post, but i only joined a week ago :D

You said you couldnt get the self catering option, why dont you complain and see if you can move to a self catering accomodation that you wanted initially. (If you cant opt out of the £94)

Have you thought of doing Lipotrim or the Cambridge Diet? I am on Lipotrim and its only £30 a week. You have three packs a day (milkshakes or soup) and you can lose about a stone in the first 2 weeks. It will save you money, and all you need to prepair them is a blender and a kettle :)
