TOWIE - age suitablility

Hey TOWIE fans :p

What age would you say this would be suitable for?
My daughter is 13 (going on 18) and although none of us have ever seen TOWIE, she wants to watch it, as ALL her friends do.... :sigh:

Now, Amazon have the first two series on DVD on "black friday" offer soon - it says 15 on the box. I suspect this may be sex/swearing related but is it that bad?

What sort of age would you pitch it at?

Thanks all - I'm sure I'll find myself watching it if she does get it!!!

I'd say 16-17 year olds at the youngest. It has a lot of swearing, and a lot of sex talk, etc.

I'm 20, and sometimes find myself shocked at some of the things they talk about on there.

Oooh! I'm surprised and can't believe my friend lets her daughter watch!!
What series are we on now? With these being 15 rated, I wonder if it's got worse?

Eeek!! Thanks Stevie.

I havent seen it, but if it has a 15 rating, then its bound to have some sex/swearing in it - most things of that age do, as its not unreasonable to expect that a 15 year old will know and understand about sex and swearing by then. Beverly Hills Cop was a 15 back when it was released and that has more F words per square inch of film than most.

It's just finished it's 3rd season. The season finale was especially 'crude' with girls effing and blinding accross tables at each other.

I'm suprised, too, that parents of 13 year olds would allow them to watch it. But each to their own I guess. I just think it's a bit mature for that age.

Jay, I think it would be a no, no for me if I had a 13 year old. We watched it once and said never again.

I love TOWIE (each to their own and all that) but I really would NOT reccommend it for a 13 year old. In fact I cannot understand that parents of these 13 year olds would let them watch it, I'm really shocked.

You can watch it online, on the i-player type of thing. Maybe you could watch an episode or two, and decide for yourself whether or not it'd be suitable for your daughter. Afterall, she's your daughter, and you'll know whats best for her xx

Luckily my son isn't interested! However I was shocked to my socks when I saw The Inbetweeners! He'd been watching it fir months and Dort told me it was fine just a bit naughty!!!!!
I could have wrung her bliddy neck!

Anyway he's now 15 and asked for the DVD for Christmas, as i'm mire prudish than my hubbycive told him he can make the decision and buy it!

I invited three of Dorts schoolfriends in one Christmas when she was 13, (all boys) and threw then out when they started discussing Fellatio in front of me!!! I didn't even know about that till I was 18!!!!

I love The Inbetweeners, it's so wrong but makes my sides split with laughter!
The movie was way more crude than the series - again, my daughter's friends (some of them) have seen it, and there's no way on this earth I'd let her watch it.

I'm sure they talk about "stuff" at school, but I don't want to know. What she watches in my home though can be controlled, thankfully, and this is off limits!

I will be getting the DVD for hubby for Christmas though and it will be hidden!!!

Do you think so, i thought the film wasnt as crude. The film was 15 whereas the series is labelled at 18.
Loved the film especially the dance.

I work in a secondary school and a lot of sexually active students use this method as birth control instead of full sex.

I am absolutely horrified.

The whole meaning of sex has been demeaned.

I can not believe that the students not only allow an adult to know that they are sexually active but more so that you know the more intimate details.

That it is used as birth control is frightening...it means that the true meaning of safe sex has been lost and that it is only about sexual gratification.

Sex has been so cheapened over the years. It is no longer special and reserved for a loving relationship. It is so casual and so crude.

Forgive me for being a product of my generation but as I said I am 100% shocked.

I don't have children so can't comment on this from a parents perspective but in my opinion I think a 13 yr old could watch the show. Girls can be quite mature at that age if my sister and niece are anything to go by. I don't think there is anything discussed or mentioned in the show that someone of that age won't have already heard at school or with friends etc. They probably have exposure to swearing and sex talk on a regular basis.
