Hey, I've never been too sure on the beef front except that I know we are for definite allowed extra lean mince :D but there is so MUCH different beef and steaks and cuts etc I get confused..

Now my Mum wants to cook a casserole and has bought beef and I was just wondering if I was allowed it?

The info:

per 100g; 130 cal, 0 carbs, 0 sugars, 21.4g protein, 4.7g fat & 2g saturated fat

per 125g; 160 cal, 0 carbs, 0 sugar, 5.9g fat & 2.5g saturated fat...

on the front it says that the 5.9g fat is 8% of your GDA

+ she always drains and rinses the fat off...

is this okay to eat?

Thanks in advance! :D

Almost all fresh beef is fine if you

a.) pick mince at less than 5% fat

b.) in the case of steaks, stewing pieces, roasting pieces etc, trim off the visible fat before cooking.

Only whole beef in which the fat and meat is swirled together like marble should be avoided

But it says 10% on the faq's on the website about meat. It's only 5% on processed meats, mince is not processed as such, it's just minced.

Ah thanks! Head will be a bit clearer in the meat aisle now :)

and yay! I can eat my Mum's cooking on Thursday, yummy beef casserole!

The new dukan book also says mince less than 10% fat is ok, but the lower the better i say :)
