Desperately want to be vegan again!

Hi fellow vegs!

I was vegan for years before I got pregnant 4 years ago. After the pregnancy I went vegan again for a while but found it very difficult with feeding the family.

We've got hens living in our back garden now so they've been a reason to not go back to veganism (doesn't excuse the milk though...).
I figured, the hens don't lay very much through the winter, so what better time to start then now?

It'll mean having to be very inventive with meals as I'm on an extremely tight budget and also have to feed my vegetarian son and husband.
Hubby is supportive but doesn't think I can do it within the budget restrictions.

I guess my reason for posting... Someone to tell me 'you can do it!'.

You can do it. There are some amazing frugal vegan blogs out there. Sorry I don't have more time to link you but poke about the web

I think meals for $3.33 or something like that might be one? Can't remember if it's vegan as I don't exclusively read vegan books but look round the net!

Of course you can do it. Do you like pulses? What is cheaper and nicer than a red lentil dahl with onion and potato?

I see what you mean about the hens in the garden and feeding the rest of the family differently but yes, if you want to do it you can.

Lets face it, if you are on this forum you are here because you want to lose weight (just been back and looked at your stats, my supposition was correct :) ) so presumably you are eating differently to the rest of the family anyway.

Go for it, you can do this.

Vegan food is SUPER cheap lol!

Now I dont eat animal products i have EXTRA cash for different rices, fruits, veg, soy milks etc. I even tried rice milk the other day lol! Tastes pretty good and NO cholesterol!!

Good book to read is Skinny Biitch.by Rory Freeman

Great to see vegan support on this site.

Yes I agree, vegan food is cheap. Make a big batch of food such as as stew with potatoes, vegetables and chickpeas and freeze individual portions. It saves any food going to waste. Do the same with soup, and I also make big batches of Green Thickies (Smoothies containing fruit, leafy greens and oats). These are so filling and so good for you. They taste great too.
