Adding spices to cottage pie?

Midnight-Sparkles

I can do this!
Okay so last night I had my first cottage pie and all I can say is :yuk::9529: I found it had a very plasticy sweet taste kinda like rosemary and I found it really hard to eat. In the end I was holding my nose and just swallowing it to get it down in the ten minute time slot. Now I have 19 of these left and I dont want to waste them. So has anyone added any spices to it like paprika or garlic etc, to improve the taste and if so what combination of spices improved it greatly. I think Phoenix mentioned soy sauce, but I'm not a lover of that unfortunately, but I am open to other ideas and rather urgently too as I have to have another one at lunch time :jelous:

Thank you :D

I'm not a lover of it either actually. When I can face having it, which is not often and only because I'm trying to use them up, I usually cook up some broccoli and cabbage (or other allowed veg), make the cottage pie up with curry powder and then mix the veg into it. I'm a definite no when it comes to this one and it hasn't grown on me!

Thanks, I will pop to the shops shortly and get some curry powder and try that :D Anything has got to be an improvement :8855:

worcester sauce , mint sauce , ketchup , anything is worth a try

the only reason i put soy sauce in mine is because it was all i had in the cupboard left over from when my grown up son last visited , and it was slightly better with than without , it has grown on me though

Well after another bash at the cottage pie, I have to say it was not good. It's not just the taste which I find awful, it's the texture. I found the bits of soya very chewy, to the point where I was chewing them in my mouth for ages. It reminded me of those odd chewy bits of gristle you find in beef mince which I could never stomach anyway. After 20 mins of struggling to eat it, it got too much and I ended up vomiting. :( Needless to say the cottage pie and I have parted ways.

O dear I feel like a freak as I really like it haha! Especially the texture u just described... Starting to be put off tho lol

I guess we can expect to see cottage pie on EBay shortly then midnight! That's the reason I bought a sample pack of every flavour when I started so I could check if I hated anything. I didn't mind the cottage pie too much when I first started tho. It was just after I bought a number of them that I started to hate it!

Oh dont be put off by me. you know what they say one man's meat is another man's poison. I guess this meal was just toxic to me :rotflmao:

Yes Borders I am sure that in the very near future there will be packs of cottage pie appearing on eBay. I am now kicking myself for not getting samples before I started. The porridge is like wallpaper paste and the cottage pie? Well I dont even want to go there again....ever. Thankfully the shakes (although too sweet) are do-able the spag bol is nice and the bars are lovely. It's just a shame about the other two meals. :D

It sounds like you arent adding enough water to the cottage pie and porridge ?
I like them both , I think im just grateful to have something to eat :)

I'm scared to add more water in case I end up with a massive bowl of stuff I cant bare to eat :8855: The smaller the bowl the better, the sooner I can get it down my throat the better. :D

True We are all different! I can't stand the shakes but really like porridge n c pie!x

How does it compare to the CD porridge Lara?

I prefer Cambridge slightly as it has a little more taste but it is pretty similar to Cambridge original flavour... I add one sweetener and use water x
