Newbie to slimming world!

HI! I have come over from the dark side (WW) to Slimming World as I really think it encourages a healthier and more sustainable approach.

However, I am having trouble getting my head around the plan - the Healthy Extras are confusing me totally, and I'm thoruoghly flummoxed as to whether my apple/banana/other fruit counts toward my free/superfree food 1/3.

I have been lurking on this site for a while and thought I'd take the plunge and actually register tonight. Hopefully I'll find the answers to my questions on here - or ask lots of silly questions!

So, can I come out and play? wave*

:wavey: Welcome aboard x

SW is totally different from ww but you will get your head round it.
Its not a diet like ww, it teaches you to make healthy choices while still enjoying your food and a few treats.

Most fruit (yes banana's & apples etc) & veg (not sweetcorn, parsnips) are SUPERFREE - orange pages in book
If your doing EE you HAVE to have 1/3 of your plate filled with these EVERY meal for it to work.

With Red/Original or green days eating the superfree will boost weight loss but you have an extra A & B choice.

FREE foods are the stables of the diet

HAve you joined a group and got the books (worth it cause all info is written down for you)

Thanks for your reply. I joined a group ages ago but wasn't very inspired by the leader, so I have the books. I've signed up online so I can check syns, but am hoping to have got my head around it and be able to cancel that at the end of the period.

I have got about 21lbs I'd like to lose, but really just want to get back into my nice jeans and work trousers!

How do you guys manage SW when you're busy, busy, busy? I'm a teacher and bring something work related home most evenings and at the weekend. I'ma bit worried the needing to cook from scratch thing will mean I won't be able to make the plan work for me...

I think you just have to be organised. Make extra tea and then freeze someone for nights when busy.
Pasta cooks quick
Tonight i had a tomato pasta n sauce pkt with my HEX of cheese on top with big bowl of salad - delicious and took 10 mins to do
there's a great thread with 100s of recipes (easy to do promise!)

Stay with it x

Hi and welcome. I work full time and also a mum, my biggest tip is to plan. Cook bigger portions to last 2 days or freeze a batch, make sure you have meals you can make quickly on really hectic evenings.
I do big soups, casseroles, curries etc
Quick meals for me are scrambled eggs, bacon and tomatoes etc.... Brekkie for dinner lol
SW chips are quick to prep and cook while your doing something else. Try checking out food diaries to give you an idea and Good Luck xxx

I'm totally willing to put my faith in it. I think meal planning but having some quick standbys is going to be the way forward. And clearing out the freezer to allow me to bulk cook. I'm planning on doing Extra Easy to start with as someone at work has lost a good stone on it and was telling me how easy it is (which is kind of what swayed me to switch!)

Maybe I'll have to drag my little slow cooker out of storage?! I have ordered a few books from the website too - including the curry book - so I'm looking forward to looking through those - but some of my WW books look easily adaptable to SW!

My biggest problem at the moment is dragging myself out of bed with enough time to have a good breakfast! I am going to sit down with a glass of vino (synned) tomorrow night and make some meal plans I think - I'm so rock and roll!

I've a feeling I'll be back here a bit over the next few weeks!

Thanks, Loopeylou. I just need a plan of action - Am going to plan my meals for next week and see how it goes.

My current weigh in is on a Sunday - any idea whether I can change that?

Hi and :welcome2:
I'm new here and been going to a SW group for the last 7 weeks. I've lost every week I've been, even though it's only a little bit, I'm happy with that as it's a step in the right direction. I'm on EE which I feel is very flexible and I've found the secret is definitely the planning. I work full time and I'm out of the house around 7.15.

I start my day off with a good breakfast which is important to kick start your metabolism, then have lunch full of superfree foods. I find if I don't plan what I'm having for dinner then I'm searching round for anything...including all the wrong things.
I do similar to Loopeylou and make big pots of soup which you can freeze and use eggs, bacon, beans and tomatoes for a quickie meal.
Keep at it. There's loads of support on here...we're all on the same journey!!

Welcome.

I don't think you can change your weigh in day but you don't have to WI on a Sunday - as long as you weigh in sometime during the week you can enter your weight.

Re: lunches and working, I agree with batch cooking. I just take cooked food plus salad or veg to work for lunch and it works really well. There are plenty of threads on this though so have a look round.

Good luck.

Thanks again all. I'm making myself a nice healthy skimming world dinner (salmon, noodles and stir fried veg) and then sitting down to think about next week's meals. It's definitely lunches that flummox me the most but planning to make a batch of BNS soup this weekend - would that count as my 1/3? Have also bought some pasta m sauces for when I'm busy - bung some frozen veg in or have with some salad and I'm laughing, right? Now to tackle making time to have breakfast in the mornings!

Do you have access to a microwave at work ? If so, take leftovers for lunch. Other possibilities are SW quiche, baked potato, pasta salad (I use v low fat fromage frais as a binding agent because it's free but could Syn mayonnaise if you prefer), rice salad etc etc !

Try looking at the recipe threads or searching for 'lunch' - there are loads of threads with good ideas.
