My PCOS Diary

hi everyone,

last time i was on here this category wasnt on here so im really pleased it is now.

i was diagnosed with PCOS 9 years ago and it has caused alot of problems, i regularly get cysts on my ovaries, my weight has ballooned and ive been trying for a baby for just over a year now.

the doctor has prescribed me metformin to
1) aid weight loss
2) increase my fertility chances

im very nervous about taking this medication but am willing to give anything a shot.

i currently have no cycle naturally at all, i have been on provera for the last 6 years and have bleeds about 4 to 5 times a year.
im still continuing on provera whilst on the metformin.

i only have pain rarely and when i do it feels like someone is twisting my womb lol but hopefully with weight loss this sould improve.

i go to the gynaecologist every 3 months for scans and checks and they have been brilliant with me since the day i was diagnosed.

its so nice to know that theres a forum to come to for support and to offer others support because we all need it at times.
i am lucky to have the most wonderful partner i could wish for, he is so understanding and supportive and come to every appointment with me but as none of my friends have PCOS i find it hard to speak to them about it.

ill stop rambling on now but i cant wait to make new friends on here and share experiences good and bad

xx

Aww sorry to hear you have it too but so happy you've been able to have a baba, thanks for your lovely message, it made my night :D xx

I also have pcos and i have a son conceived naturally....... it can happen. and if not you are doing everything to help nature take its course. Me and my partner have decided to now try for another. 14 years after first!!!! this time i am much heavier so i have decided to spend the next year concentrating on weight loss then go into getting assistance. It does happen... for some it happens sooner than for others but you need to stay positive and view it all as giving nature a small helping hand rather than invasive.... good luck with your journey x

im so confused... i seem to be having my first natural period EVER!! i started with a bit of spotting last night but tonight i seem to be in full flow (sorry) im so confused as this has never ever happened before, i took provera for years to have 4 bleeds a month then when i got with my boyfriend i was on cerazette for a while but for the last few months ive been on no medication, the only symptoms ive had was all of last week i was so emotional, only see my OH every weekend and all week when i was speaking to him i was crying all the time and couldnt explain why so maybe thats something to do with it, im just a bit worried, has this happened to anyone else? xx

Don't be worried.... Natural periods are a great sign... What you have to remember is periods stop due to hormonal imbalances ..... If you hVe been eatin and well Nd have lost some weight you may find that you bodies hormones ate regulating better and therefore have triggered natural period..... This could then mean natural ovulation as well..... Don't panic though xxxx

Hi everyone,

Just a little update, I've now lost just under 2 stone and seem to be getting natural periods 5 weeks apart :)

Last time I went to hospital for my check up I had an internal ultrasound and I only have 1 cyst on my left ovary which is great news as I normally have lots :)

I've got my next appointment end of may so hopefully ill be able to work out if I'm ovulating and if my chances of conceiving have improved :) xx

Hey Hun,

Sounds like everything is going the right way for you! Just wanted to share, I was told I had pcos when I was 21 but I had no symptoms other than being overweight and finding it difficult to lose weight I was having regular periods but cycle length would vary from 25 to 45 days. I started dieting and seeing fertility drs from 23 and after losing just over 2 stone I was having periods every 30 days and they told me I didn't have pcos anymore :D however I had a partially blocked tube but they said this should cause no issues and they discharged me telling me to keep losing weight and come back when my bmi was under 30, but after losing nearly 4 stone I conceived naturally :D I still have a lot of weight to lose after bubs arrives but you sound very positive and on the right track so I just wanted to share with you that your doing everything right and well done!

Hiya :)

Thanks for your reply and kind words.

Wow congratulations to you on your little one, its nice to hear that things change and work out for the best.
Whenever the doctors used to go on about how the best thing to do would be to loose weight I used to think yeah yeah yeah heard it all before, but hearing from people such as yourself really restores my Faith and gives me so much hope and the ability to believe it can happen and I will get to hold a gorgeous bundle of joy in my arms one day.

Thanks so much for your reply, its really made my day :)

And congratulations again and all the best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy :) xx

Lol snap the dr told me for years and I always thought yeah whatever I will one day, and I also used to think yes I know I need to lose weight but I want a baby now so let's bypass the weight loss and give me some pills.

But the dr was right haha

Thanks Hun

Hey. Im glad I found this forum! My periods were quite irregular when I was 16 but at times very painful. I went on the depo injection at around 16/17, I had about 5 of these then stopped them. I didnt have a period for about 2 years. I then went to the doctor and he gave me provera, which I think I took 2 lots of. It worked, very painful! Then they started coming back slowly but very irregular. I had an internal scan done and they noticed I had some small cysts and said I had PCOS. They have been more regular, but what I started doing is keeping a period diary, I keep it on my laptop and just type in every day if I had anything, the colour of it. It will be interesting to get an idea of a pattern. They seem to last for like 4 weeks at times (heavy and light) I find if I eat healthy, I have a period? I saw a dr and he told me exercise every day (15 min walk) and eating healthy I shouldnt have much of a problem and will help tons. So best to try and lose weight and you may find you wont need extra help conceiving. Alot of problems come down to weight, it sucks but its reality!

Little update.

I saw my gynea last week and told him I had my first ever full natural period the week before. It lasted 5 days and was much like the periods I have while taking provera but a lot more painful. He was really impressed and said he believes its due to my weight loss.

He advised me to not take the provera for a couple of months and see if anything happens. Well tonight I appear to be beginning another period. So that will be 2 in 1 month. I'm very confused. 1 was a miracle but now 2??!! Part of me thinks this is good because natural cycles can only be a good thing but, 1, I can't stand the pain again and 2, I don't believe loosing 2 stone could have this much effect on my body.

My consultant is prescribing me some really really strong anti inflammatory painkillers because he said the pain won't get any better :'(

Oh dear me

Hiya
I have PCOS, i was diagnosed about 8 years ago by blood test, i get the hairyness, weight gain, irregular periods and very bad mood swings! I've tried slimming world, rosemary's weight watchers, ive been referred to a dietician by my doctor and have to say the thing that seems to work for me is cutting down carbs and exercise. The only problem is i find it really hard to stick to!! So after a having a 'bad weekend' in that I'm really fed up with feeling so unattractive! I've decided to do it my way again and start at the gym do swimming and cut down portions and carbs.
I'm just wondering if anyone else gets the bad moods? Some days I'm savage and can't snap out of it :-( It's not like me and hate being so grumpy!!

PS I'm new to this so sorry if this is a bit out of sorts.

Chelle, I do have natural periods, the longest i've gone without is 18 months, some can last 7-10 days some are painfull and others not at all. I do think your periods could be down to your weight loss. Congratulations...that's a fantastic weight loss :) My period can start 10-14 days into a diet so i know its my diet/weight that stops them.

Thank you chick :)

Well if I'm going to have another natural one its 4 weeks this week so we will see. Had an early night last night as felt really achy and had a bad back so thought maybe I was getting symptoms but I feel fine today so I'm not sure :) x

hey I was diagnosed with PCOS last year but i haven't had periods for 5 years, got put on the pill, got periods with that for 6 months, but the made me depressed so had to come off them. She left me for 3 months to see if I got periods cos I had lost almost a stone since being diagnosed but nadda, so she tried me on the mini pill...that gave me headaches, so i'm not on anything at the moment, go back in 2 weeks and she is going to try me on a different combined pill. I'm hoping by the time I get down to my target weight I won't need to stupid pill to give me periods, even though nearly 4 stone down on my original weight i'm still unable to have them naturally.
