joining gym for weight loss

Hi. Im currently doing weight watchers. I have lost half a stone in 3 weeks with another 2 and a half to go. Im joining a gym 2moro night after work for 3 months. I love the exercise classes but im not sure which ones i should do or how many classes a week for weight loss. Any help greatly appreciated.

I have not had a go at any classes as yet, I tend to do gym sessions with my ipod and either do a cardio session (row/cycle/run/cross trainer) or a weights session as I like muscle definition.

I'm soon to try padfit and spinning though :)

Thanks, i just prefer the classes as i know they are only for 45 or 60 mins and when i have my place booked i feel i would be letting them down if i dont turn up plus in a class i push myself harder. I dont feel comfortable yet in the gym room. I know no one is looking at me and its all in my head but maybe that is something i can aim for :).

If they do a Bodypump class that's a really good one because it's both aerobic and anaerobic. you can burn up to 600 calories in a one-hour class and because you are using weights your muscles will 'tone' and you'll burn more calories after the class too.

Thanks, I had my gym induction last night and the instructer went through all the classes with me and he has advised me what classes to do and how often etc. thanks for your help x

Hi there

best exercise = the one you enjoy and will do

I like olympic weights, kettlebells, pilates and running. Lost 40lb in 3 months. But I like these exercises.

so stick with what you like, and fits in with your lifestyle. however I would state the benefits of exercise at higher heart rates e.g. bodypump, kettleworx etc.., over lower aerobic style exercise. This is because post exercise your body carries on burning calories and is really good for your cardiovascular system.

still, well done on your start and good luck with the next stage on your journey

Thanks Martin. I did the spinning class yesterday and the bodypump class tonight. I have aqua aerobics after my weight watchers meeting tomorrow night. I have a feeling im gonna be sore tomorrow from the bodypump class :-(

That's a great mix of exercise and will keep your body adapting and responding. My gym is really simple so no classes but I used to do triathlons so I know the benefits of spinning. Your aqua class should help with the aches too.

Well my first week over at the gym. Did 6 classes in total.. 3 spinning, 2 bodypump and 1 bums, legs and tums. Didnt do the aqua after all this week. Having the weekend off as i wont be at home.
