Newbie food diary day 1

Hi, I've introduced myself (on the wrong thread I think...) and explained that I joined SW last night. I went to a group, but don't think I'll rejoin it and will try and make some sense of the diet. I feel completely overwhelmed and can't get my head around the diet at all (other than the superfree foods). Today, I have just tried to make healthy choices as I can't figure out what is group A/B or a syn etc.

Today I have eaten;
Porridge made with skimmed milk
A banana for break
Lunch: Homemade watercress soup
3 oatcakes
Low fat natural yoghurt with grapes
Dinner: Beans on 2 slices of wheat free toast.

5 cups of tea today with skimmed milk.

I daren't eat any more as I don't know if this is within limits or not.
I work full time and have 2 young children so haven't got loads of time to prepare food. My biggest problem is that todays food isn't much different to my normal days diet yet I'm one and a half stone overweight :(

Please could someone shed some light on my food diary. Thank you so much.

Hi YB.. There's a brilliant section for newcomers.. Go there and read the posts.. It'll explain the plan properly.

Which plan are you looking to follow first of all- extra easy (EE), red or green?

Your healthy extra A ( hex a) are your calcium rich food which you are allocated a certain amount depending on which plan you follow. So for hex a this consists of milk and/or cheese food.

Your health extra B (hex b) is your fibre rich food- there's a lot of stuff you can have for your hex b so you would have to have a look at the handouts that you got from your group (I was an online member in the beginning so still have them)

The first thing to decide is what plan you want to follow. EE is good because it combines both red and green day stuff.. Green days are good for veggies because it's unlimited carbs with 2 hex a and 2 hex b and red days are good for carb control because it allows you only a certain amount but again with 2 hex a and b.

If it is EE you want to do, I can help you out because I do them each day every day. If it's red or green I will let you know who to do go.

How much are you looking to lose if you don't mind me asking?

Rozie

Hi Roziee,
Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I'm doing EE but still getting my head around it and trying my best as I work full time and have two young children. The weekend was really hard as I found it difficult to get food 'on the go' so ended up not having anything and feeling starving!

I'm hoping to lose about 20lbs altogether.

Thank you for your help!

So you can have 1 hex a and 1 hex b... Every meal should have 1/3 super free (so fruit, veg, salad etc) and have between 5-15 syns..

Lunch: Homemade watercress soup (not sure whether u put anything that would cause it to syn)
3 oatcakes (you would have to syn these.. 1 syn for 20 calories)
Low fat natural yoghurt with grapes
Dinner: Beans on 2 slices of wheat free toast. (again you would have to syn the toast)

5 cups of tea today with skimmed milk. (syn the milk)

I've added some comments in.. Hope it helps x

Thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate it. It shows I was on the right track with what I'm doing rgarding syns. Onwards and upwards (or downwards in lbs...)

Thanks again,

YG :)

Hi and :welcome2:
I'm new here too...joined earlier in the week and I started at SW end of September.

I had to study the books before I could get my head around the plan but it is fairly easy once you get started. I just decided what foods I liked and worked it out from there so I don't feel like I'm on a diet. I'm following the EE plan and as it's so flexible it works for me because of my work hours etc.

My OH is also on the plan most of the time...although he doesn't always realise!!!...lol :D

There's lots of support on here together with some good ideas of what to eat, wonderful recipes too.

Good luck on your journey! :)
