So much weight to loose :-(

Hiya

My name is Elaine, I am a married mother of four girls, 6yrs, 5yrs, 3yrs and a 5 month old baby.
My weight has just been going up and up, bmi dangerously high, and just feeling terrible
I am trying to figure out what kind of eating style would be best for me, with the fact I am cooking all the time for my family.

Hopefully I'll find a eating style to fit in, I end up eating like a pig once the girls are in bed, cause then I have peace lol, no idea what to do other than eat, so really it needs to stop, especially comfort eating so much when my youngest is just crying all the time, not getting a moments peace because she doesn't like being put down, always wants to be in mums arms.............lol!! OK, time to stop moaning lol.

I'm aiming to loose a stone at a time, I am going to keep loosing weight till I feel comfortable with myself, not because of a chart that says I should be such and such weight :)

It would be wonderful to have a diet buddy, if anyone else is on the same boat xxx

How much weight do you reckon you'd like to lose in total? I know you're aiming for small interim goals (very good idea) but do you have a rough ultimate goal? (the specifics can always be altered as you get closer to it)

At my heaviest I was 22st and managed to get down to 12st 7lb using the Cambridge diet. I regained some and went back up to 17st 11lb. I'm currently on Exante (another meal replacement diet) and am at 16st 13lb as of today. I'd like to get to around 12st - which would still make me on the lower end of obese but I think I'd be happy at that weight. As I said, goal posts can always be moved.

As for which diet you should follow - that very much depends on your life style and personality.
For me, I've tried conventional diets but lose so little because of my condition (metabolic syndrome) that I get disheartened and usually end up messing it up. Also, I place a lot of emotional focus on food so when I'm tired / stressed / angry etc I eat. That's why a meal replacement diet works for me - it gives me space to look at my eating habits from 'outside the box' so to speak. It may not suit you though.

You may prefer to look at one of the conventional plans such as weight watchers, slimming world or rosemary conley (I did well on that but there are no classes close to where I now live).

You don't need to join a class to adopt the principles of the plans. Or you could just adopt a 'healthy eating' regime where you watch your calorie intake and cut down on bad fats and starchy carbs. Personally that's just too 'hit and miss' for me and not structured enough but plenty of people do ok on it although it's probably a very long term solution (and I want to shift things faster than that)

You'll get lots of support here whatever you decide though so come back often and just pour your heart out, vent or let us know about your achievements and successes :)

Good luck!

Hiya, thanks for your reply, and well done with the weight loss!!.

I am 21st 6oz, at my heaviest I was 22st 10lb. I would love to get down to about 14st or so, I will still be overweight, but I would be happy, so talking 7st I would need to loose  even the thought makes me want to cry.

I have done low calorie before, the Cambridge diet, but on the higher step, the 1200 cals & shakes, lost 1st very fast off of it, but then strayed off it. But I do feel like I could do it again, just not allow temptation to get to me.

I had thought about doing the Atkins diet, cause I love my meat, fish & veg and eggs and cheese.

Still in the thinking process lol! I need to be getting to the doing process soon though, cause I truly don't want to get any heavier
Thanks very much, your reply was very helpful

I don't know much about the Atkins diet other than in the initial stages it's mostly protein so I guess it induces ketosis and so works much the same as a TFR diet My concern would be that it's not entirely balanced as vital vitamins must be absent - although I believe there are various stages and maybe they introduce more dietary balance then.

If one of the Cambridge plans worked for you before then couldn't you consider it again? Or perhaps something like Exante (which I'm currently doing) which is half the price of Cambridge when bought as a month's supply - they also do a higher plan if you don't think TFR is for you.

The bottom line is that it has to be something you think you can sustain - there's nothing more disheartening than starting and 'failing' a plan when really, it was more a case of it failed you because just didn't suit you or your lifestyle.

Good luck again and keep us posted :)

There are so many people with 5+ stones to lose so you're not alone :)

I have 8 stones to lose and have lost 2.5 stones so feel your pain :( feels like such a lonngggg way but I am determined to do this and so can you.

From experience of sw I would suggest doing the same for you, because the principles of sw can be applied to everyone in your family, not just you. It encourages eating lots of fruit and veg, a set amount of fibre and calcium so it will suit all of your family. You can cook the sw meals and they're so delicious.. And you can eat lots and still lose weight :)

I'd be more than happy to help you through your journey if you choose sw x

Hi hun :) here to follow! I swear by ww but it is entirely up to each person which plan suits them! I like the freedom and still get good losses!

When I started I had 11 stone to lose and am down 2 stone 10 so far :) xx
