Hi All,

I need some good exercise goals and thought you may be able to help by giving me some inspiration.

It's easy to identify weight loss goals, but i want some goals that remind me of how far i have come in terms of fitness, whilst giving me somewhere to go.

It could be marathon running, wall climbing, a specific number of press ups... anything!

What are your EXERCISE goals??

Thanks

Mama x

to use a 30kg weighted bar for squats (lifted over head- currently 24kg)

run 5k without needing to walk for a bit!!! im not a runner, i dont even like running -_-

I guess my first goal would be on the same lines as gina_b's: running 5k without needing to walk, but also first running my ~3K gym run, without intervals at 10KM/H and feeling comfortable after. And then moving onto a half marathon. After all this I'd love to get back to my dancing days body! So basically get my weight down a bit and sign up for dance classes. That's probably as much an emotional goal as it is a fitness goal!

1. Run 3K at 10KM/H.
2. Run 5K at 10KM/H = half an hour.
3. Run 8K in intervals in an hour.
3. Run 10K at track intervals. Probably around 1h 15min.
4. Run 10K in 1h.

When hitting 160lbs (73kg) sign up for dance lessons!

Muscle building goals: Would love to do 5 unassisted pull-ups. Now at 54kg assist.

x

Gina- Wow, 30kgs, that sounds great! When do you think you'll be able to do it Gina??

Gem- it sounds like you have some very clear and specific goals and that's inspiring me. Had worked with a trainer for ages but she was carp at helping me set goals so will focus a bit more on them myself.

Am jealous, I can't run anymore so u guys will have to do the 5k for me! LOL

Let me know how you're progressing...

i can do 40kg without the bar being lifted over head, took me a year to use 24kg lifted overhead so hopefully another year or so.... the 24kg isnt feeling too heavy either and ive just upped it, might have to go for 25kg today.

i want to use 15kg on biceps too, currenty at 10kg

Ive got a series of short medium and long terms goals....

but here are some

1. run alton water (8m x country) in under 1 hr by Easter
2. bench press with biggest dumbell in gym (26kg each arm) before end Dec
3. Shoulder press with 26kg each arm, alternative arm Jan next yr
4. Olympic clean and press 50kg, good technique easter
5. Body fat 24% (done that, woop!) then 20% by end yr and 18% by Easter
6. Single leg Bosu squat by Dec and then 30kg kettlebell x 15 by Easter
7. Include other exercises for bicep and abs; always have a plan always follow, set progressive targets and set to fail on final rep
8. Accept bad days, they happen.

try for set dates and progressive targets. reward yourself with each achievement as well. Ive got a word doc with them, and I have to re set them sometime cos I do them quicker but also cos I ask too much of myself.

I've got a few:
run 5km without walking,
run 5km in under 30 minutes,
run 10km without walking,
run 10km in under an hour.

Working on the c25k programme at the minute. Once I've finished that I'm going to mix working on my 5km time with following the b210k programme. I attend the gym 4 times a week so once a week working on speed, the rest on 10k.

Rachel/ Martin/ Gina
You are all so inspiring. From 5k races, to 26kg weights, it's great to read.
Your helping me better shape my own goals....

Yup did 24kg x 2 dumbells bench press today for 10 reps - gettign there

Getting the confidance and aggressiveness to attack bigger weights and I can now push press 46kg and free squat similar. Im learnign that my body can often do more its the mental side that takes a push.... so get your goals and start finding new limits

If I can do it anyone can......

Watch this - couple mins in Victoria Pendleton squats at least 120kg.. BBC Sport - Victoria Pendleton takes on Sale Sharks in fitness test and she is hardly a big girl!

Squats are great - I dont have a squat rack so got to lift it over my head from the ground. Part the reason Im learning Olympic lifts to get the right technique.

Do you do deadlifts? I found they helped build strength leading to better squats

yeah, i only do weights proper in body pump classes, its rare the multi gym with bar is free to use. the deadlifts are a good one, prefer a wide grip on those though
i have to lift the bar overhead in the pump class, the max i can actually lift over is 24kg so far. considering about 12 monthes ago the most i could do and i struggled with was 9kg, improvement! i only ever drop down to that 9 again now when im not feeling too good, id sooner feel unwell amd do something than feel unwella nd mope about in bed doing nothing. i wont use my max weight though when i feel like that, i lower it right down.

Hi Mama Mia, I've just come online now as feeling very disappointed in myself and need some new goals. I am going to be setting myself achievable, realistic goals to start with.

First is to do AT LEAST one hour exercise a day - if I go over it then great, but I am telling myself that I must do an hour daily.

Second is to eat sensibly and not over-indulge

Third is to lose my double chin asap - its only just starting but I cannot let it settle

Forth is to come on here to get plenty of support :)

Hi Wii-Gym-Bunny (love the name), welcome, welcome, welcome!!

What is your current fitness level?

It sounds like you have set some serious goals there!

Hi there Mama Mia and thanks for the welcome! :D I have done well so far this week and have done our an hours exercise everyday, so I am quite pleased with myself.

My fitness level is not too bad at the moment, I get out of breath reasonably quickly, although not too badly. My main problem is getting motivated as some days I just cannot be bothered. I get too hot when I exercise too which I also hate! but I am really pushing myself as I must get this weight off.

How are your goals going? oh and I have not over indulged this week either, how good of me!! :p

Hi Wii
Well done for your achievements this week! Very impressive... Over indulgence is my middle name! Lol

I now do KettleWorx DVDs 3 days per week and try to stick to that no matter what (injury permitting). I have got great results from it and it only lasts half an hour...thankfully!

I think that my short term goals are:-

Doing kettleworx every other day
Moving from an 8kg kettlebell to 10kg
Moving onto the advanced kettleworx DVD

Long term goals:-

Climb a wall
Run a 5k non stop (cartilage loss prevents running, but weight loss may help)
Do 15 lunges on each leg (as above)

I haven't set any other goals yet but like the idea of doing something that i can do during work time (to burn off the stress!). Nothing sweaty so maybe walking but using a pedometer so that I have a target and am motivated. I dunno...

Sweating is a great sign so get some sweat bands and watch that weight melt off!! Do you workout indoors or outdoors??

I have a new goal...
To do the kettlebell hold with my 8kg for 20 seconds

I will not be beaten!!!
