Is the cold weather making anyone else hungry

Hi

Just wondering whether anyone else was feeling cold or under the weather and wanting to eat more.

I am full of cold and just want to eat all the time. It is my forth week on SW and i know that can be a tricky week anyway, but god i'm hungry.

Trying to have filling meals. Just had poached eggs on 1 slice of toast for brekkie, and my jacket potatoes already in the oven for lunch.

Can anyone suggest quick and warm comfort foods so that I dont go off plan.

Cheers

Roast a load of veggies and bung them in a soup, maybe with some lentils depending if you want to keep it superfree or not. Chuck some spices or whatever in to make it taste how you like and store it in the fridge - then whenever you have stodgy cravings you can bung it in the microwave for a coupla minutes.

I made this one last night:

Roast veg soup:

Ingredients:
- 1 kilo of veg (carrots, swede, parsnips, whatever you fancy), chopped into small cubes
- 1 red onion, 4 cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 tsp chilli flakes, 2 tsp ground cumin, S&P
- 200g puy lentils
- 1500ml stock

Method:
- Chuck the veg, onions & garlic in a tray, scatter with the spices, spray with Fry Light, cover and roast for 45min-1h. Take the foil off for the last 15-20min to crisp up.
- Meanwhile boil the lentils in the stock for about 40min until tender
- When the veg is done roughly mash it and mix it in with the lentils & stock.

Really, really filling and warm & wintery. Sometimes I use red lentils and tomatoes instead of green lentils and stock and stick squash type veg in instead of root veg.

Make big pan soup - carrot & coriander or pea & mint - eat with wm bread as HEX B
or SW cheese & onion pie

14oz Potatoes
4oz Onion
4oz Leek
handful of peas
1 garlic clove
sprinkle of tyhme
2 eggs beaten
85ml vegetable stock
84g reduced fat chedder (2 HEX or you could share it so only 1 HEX )

Boil potatoes and mash up, set aside and spray large frying pan with frylight and fry onions, leeks & peas for 6-8 mins.

Add the mash, garlic, thyme, eggs, stock and half the cheese, mix altogether and put in ovenproof dish and sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top and bake for 20 mins on 200c

Not for me, not been feeling like eating until much later in the day (bad I know!) so didn't eat breakfast and had lunch at 3pm :-O Not sure why that is :S I know breakfast is very important too so will try harder!

I do :( Seem to be starving at the moment! Think its mother natures fault...we were designed to store fat over the winter!

The cheese and onion pie is AMAZING, had it for lunch today, real comfort food :)
Soup is a fab winter warmer :) And meals like stew, roast dinners, chilli con carne, curry, spag bol etc etc are really filling and warming! And if you make a big batch of any of them, you can pop a bit in the microwave as a snack to fill you up and warm you up!

Yeah Im absolutely starving the last few days  Keep having two lunches and two dinners and stuff. Normally I'd make extra so I can have it for lunch next day but I keep eating the lot! :(

I know how you're feeling, we had this discussion at group last night.

I don't know what it is, but I struggle to eat a lot of fruit when the weather is cold like this. So instead I am trying to eat hearty dishes with lots of vegetables.

Like the others have said, soups are great. You can just make a huge batch up - bung in whatever you like - and can store/freeze them for whenever you need a little pickmeup.

I'm also finding thinks like jacket potatoes with hot fillings really substantial and comforting. I usually have mine topped with beans & cheese, or more recently mushy pea curry

Shepherds/Cottage pie is also really easy to make, yet really hearty and satisfying. Again, you could make up a huge batch and freeze it - perfect for potting up and taking to work for lunches etc, providing you have a microwave/cooker.

Also, pasta can be really filling. Especially with a nice 'creamy' sauce - the SW way of course.

There are some really gorgeous recipes on here - try searching the winter warmes section for some inspiration :)

Good luck xx

Thank you all some great ideas.

I always make a large quantity of whatever it is im making but my Hubby and 3 kids love the food so it all goes. So glad they do though makes it a lot easier than making different dinners.

I had the Asda tinned chick pea dahl with rice for lunch today and i'm stuffed. It was lovely and all free on Green.

I have found that in the Asda Smartprice range they do a big bag of frozen rice for a pound, and it only takes 3 mins to boil. Its so quick and easy no excuse to cheat lol x x

Every year I suffer with cold & then comfort eat & put on weight. I am hoping the lovely things, like shepherds pie & chilli, you can eat on SW will keep me on track (although it's only my third day so who knows!). I was thinking of making a beef & red pepper stew or a curry - they have a nice recipe in this months magazine.

Good luck!

When the nights draw in feel tired and when I am tired I want to eat, I do get SAD though, maybe that's why.

Im really hungry this last week dont know whats wrong with me. Always have fruit and yoghurt for my breakfast now by the time it reaches 1030 im starving again. Not normally like this, maybe it is the weather.
