Anyone go to a WW/SW/RC/etc meeting but not follow the plan?

I like calorie counting and it works for me, I know that if I stick to it, I lose weight. Simples! The thing I struggle with after a certain point is staying motivated and so I'm trying to think of ways to overcome that before it becomes an issue. I lost 3 stone before, put it all back on exactly to the lb, then started calorie counting, lost 2 stone and put 13lbs back on when I went off track for 2-3 months. So now I'm back, I've got most of that 13lbs off and I'm working on getting the rest off and more but I don't want to hit a point where that happens again. So I'm thinking about maybe joining something like Weight Watchers, Slimming World, Rosemary Coneley etc. and going along to meetings but not actually following their plan. Anyone else do that? I don't want to change plans, I just feel that maybe the added support and accountability might help me stay on track longer this time. What do you guys think?

Hello caroline im doing this from 5 November.. im on exante atm and will be joining a SW class every saturday morning.

Maybe not a wise/fair choice but i will be a paying customer still.. good luck and give it a go :) x

I used to do that & it did work. I'd have 1700 cals a day & would lose 1.5-2lbs a week. I lost 3.5 stone (have put 2 back on in a year). The group was good for motivation, plus I needed a total stranger to weigh me, to shame myself into behaving! Never told anyone at group though, although it's in my diary on here. I wonder how many other people do it?

I can't really afford to go to a group right now so am doing it from home. Adult son wants to try the SW diet so we're doing it together. If I don't see some results I'll go back to calories

I don't think I'd have the guts to tell them that I'm not following their plan either! I know that when I was doing the Cambridge Diet, knowing that someone else would weigh me and that I couldn't just ignore a bad week definitely kept me on track more. It is quite expensive isn't it! But I feel like it might be needed to help me stay on track so it's worth it as long as I've got the money. I just sold my digital camera so I could always use that money for it or something. I was actually 'prescribed' Rosemary Coneley sessions by my old doctors but never found one that I could get to easily as I didn't have a car at the time. So I'm considering going to my doctor here and having a chat with him about whether they do anything like that, I'm not sure if they do or not though.

Hi,

sounds like you deffo need to support of other people to spur you on, though to be honest, you are only with them once a week, unless you go to a few meetings, do you think that once a week meeting will be enough ?

in 2009 doctors would give 'certain patients' NHS vouchers for WW 12 weeks free.. :) then the doctor would monitor weight loss progress.

I dont know if this is still available but worth asking??

I think once a week would be enough as it's the whole being weighed in front of people and stuff, means it's not just me and my journey anymore, if that makes sense!

Get it!

Are you normally a weekly or daily weigher ?

I weigh myself most days but only update my loss once a week, every sunday.

I would probably go to WW if I could afford it and still CC. My GPs run a "Healthy Lives" service whereby you are weighed once a week and given advice etc. Their scales are so fancy it gives your hydration levels, body fat % and your body "age".

I wish we had this

Me too! I don't think they do anything here at all though they're starting a pilot scheme soon which I highly doubt my little village doctors will be a part of.
