I am a bit of a newbie on here so I hope I have put this in the right place...

Just wanted to let you know about a program that I am going to watch on 4th November:

"Ten Things You Need to Know About Losing Weight"

It's on 'Really' (a freeview channel) and is on 10pm-11pm

"Medical journalist Michael Mosley investigates the latest scientific breakthroughs in slimming, uncovering ten of the simplist ways you can shed those pounds".

Maybe we could use this thread to advertise any other diet-related programs that may be coming on tv?

Hi
Have a look at the thread "Eat Stop Eat 24 Hour Fast"

http://www.minimins.com/all-other-diets/197138-eat-stop-eat-24-hour-fast.html

If there is anything else you want to know, just post a comment and I will do my best to answer you. Naz knows quite a bit about it as she has lost a lot of weight on it. I have just read the e-book as well, but it is very complicated (full of bio-chemistry!). Due to various health reasons, I am giving it a go.

Bye for now
Jan xx

Thanks!!! :O)

"The Food Hospital"

Tuesdays 8pm Channel 4

Shows you how some people's illnesses can benefit by eating or not eating certain foods.

BTW, losing weight significantly helped two people on this program who suffer from Type 2 Diabetes, and also Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.

Hi :wavey:

Yeah, I recorded it too. Watched it today and found it really interesting.

If you didn't manage to watch "Ten Things You Need to Know About Losing Weight", I watched my recorded version this morning and I noted down the 10 things. A fascinating program, full of scientifically-based facts, some of which I had never heard of!

The 10 Dieting Tips were:

1: Don't skip meals. There is a chemical in the brain that, when you get really hungry, switches on and encourages you to eat really high calorie foods. (at first, I was gutted to see this one, as I am trying out the 24 hour fast idea, but the reason they were suggesting not skipping meals was not because it wasn't healthy or didn't work, it was to do with this chemical release, encouraging you to eat very high calorie foods).

2: Use a smaller dinner plate ie. 10" instead of 12", as we are hot-wired to eat everything on our plate.

3: Count your calories and try and choose the low calorie version of meals and beverages.

4: Don't blame your metabolism. It is highly likely that you are not counting your calories correctly and including everything you eat towards your daily allowance. People tend to forget the wee snacks they eat during the day, or perhaps think a bowl of fruit doesn't have many calories etc

5: Lean protein-rich foods keep you feeling fuller for longer. Protein triggers the PYY hormone that does this.

6: Soup keeps you feeling fuller for longer, compared to normal meals of the same ingredients.

7: The wider the choice of food, the more likely you are to over-eat eg. a buffet lunch

8: Low fat dairy products help you to excrete more fat than if you avoid them altogether eg. skimmed milk, low fat cheese and yogurt, cottage cheese and creme fresh

9: Our bodies keep on burning fat for a long time after we have exercised...up to 24 hours afterwards!

10: Small changes curing your day can significantly increase your calories burned, even with no dedicated exercise. Just keep moving more.
