Daily sweetener amounts?

Can anyone help - I've lent my book to my sister-in-law so can't check and was wondering whether there is an advised limit to amount of sweetener in a day? :sign0163:

Thank Chris, definitely needs loads when TOTM!

On the DD site they limited sweetener to 8 teaspoons daily, during a daily chat when someone asked the same question. But the book says unlimited. Take yr pick!

Thanks Topaz! Interesting when there are discrepancies between the two.

8 teaspoons???? I thought it was unlimited!! I have a tbsp in my galette and then 1/2 in my total...that's way more than 8 teaspoons!!!
I wish the info was consistent! Arrrrgggh!

There's only 3 teaspoons in a tablespoon, so if you have 1tbsp in galette and 1/2tbsp in total that's the equivalent of 4 and 1/2 teaspoons so you're ok either way!! However I know what you mean, there's a huge difference between "unlimited" and "8tsps". You use a fair bit in meringue, maybe in cups of tea/coffee, any galette or yoghurt or baking. Maybe it's just best to be as strict with it as you can? What do others think?

Do you know if the 8 tsps include all types of sweeteners?

The powdered Aspartame and Splenda include fillers so have some carbs but the liquid sweeteners such as Hermestas have no carbs.

So is it the carbs that is the reason for the limit or is it the effect of the artificial sweetener itself on insulin regardless of the carbs the reason??

Also, does the 8 tsps include the 5 pieces of sf gum limit?

Didn't even Think about meringues and the ocasional Coke zero.....plus i Can get lots more teaspoons on my tbsp! 1 tbsp is 15g right?

Aargh! Is anyone using the "dukan chat" at the minute so could ask this? Forgot about the sweeteners in SF gum, and didn't realise different sweeteners have different levels of carbs...now am more confused than I was at the beginning!!

My understanding is that Aspartame is more unlimited than Splenda, Xylitol and other similar bases. Sucralose is very light but still has some sugar properties in very large quantities. I use Aspartame sparingly for a few things and Splenda for all cooked stuff as Aspartame loses its flavour when heated. I also suggest that as long as you don't go substantially over it's not going to make a huge difference.
