Morning everyone, Just a bit of advice been on sw for 6 weeks now and been following 100% but this weekend im hitting the town for a boozy sesh. I dont normally drink but am saving as many synns as I can this week for sat wont be eating out so that isnt a problem but is it bad to save your synns for the weekend for booze? Ill be sticking to white sprits and diet mixers to keep it as good as possible. So far I have saved 16 synns (monday and tuesday) and plan to save more this week. Do think it will drastically screw me up doing it this way? I havent been out in so long I really wanna enjoy myself but not panic about what the scales will say mon.

Thanks xxxx

i think people say vodka and soda water is the best thing to drink. Im sure your not the first people who saves their syns for a boozy weekend. Just make sure you eat plenty before you go out and always buy your own drinks, you may ask for diet coke etc but your mate might just get full fat by mistake!

I usually do the same. If I know I'm going out on a weekend, I'll be really good all week and won't use a lot (if any) Syns. However, I'm a bit naughty, and when I do go out, I don't Syn my drinks. I just have a 'night off', and enjoy myself, knowing that I've been good all week.

To avoid kebab/chippy cravings, make something up before you go out. I usually make up some FREE homemade burgers and leave them in the fridge, ready to pop in the oven when I get in. Or makeup a 5 Syn pizza using a Weight Watchers tortilla Wrap, again just to shove in the oven when you get home.

It's all about damage limitation I guess, but the main thing is that you enjoy yourself xx

I deffo will be staying away from midnight munchies if im honest im gonna have some super noodles ready or pasta in sauce for when I get back if im sober enough to make it :) either that or gonna make some humous and have it ready to snack on for when I get back

Kebab shop salad with chilli sauce is my late night treat. Grilled chicken would also be a good option if you eat meat.

I've been doing SW for 3 weeks and every weekend Ive saved my syns and had at least a bottle of wine and still managed to loose each week!
I enjoy having a drink at the weekends so even if it does end up slowing down my weight loss, as long as I get there in the end and am still able to do the things I really enjoy then I'm happy :)
xx

The thing is, Slimming World is supposed to be a plan for life, not a quick fix.

So expecting you never ever to have a night out and a few drinks, FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, is totally unrealistic.

So do what you plan - save some syns if you can, but go over them for that one night if you need to.

It's much more likely that you'll stay on SW, and lose most weeks, if every so often you let yourself go off plan.

And even if, in the worst case scenario, you actually have a small gain in the one week in six that you allow yourself to let your hair down, in the grand scheme of things you're losing well if you're losing 5 weeks out of 6.
And if you never let yourself have that night off, you wouldn't stick to it, and you'd end up not losing at all.

So have your night out, enjoy yourself, and then get straight back onto plan. It works!

You are not meant to be saving syns like WW, and it makes sense when you see it this way:

You are entitled up 15 syns a day, these syns are potential extra calories you can intake per day. When you haven't used them, you've lost your syns entitlement that day, hence it's an aid in your weight loss. Saving them and using them towards something like a wedding, a night out, etc defeats the object as you are "catching up on calories" if that makes sense. You basically are eating more calories than you are meant to that day! With alcohol, you have to be careful as your body doesn't use it as a fuel - hence beer guts - it is converted into fat and is stored, nothing else. The only way to rid it is to exercise.
This is why SW have flexible syns - have a good night out (I've had plenty) and stick to spirits with diet mixers. The next day, go back on the diet and take it from there. You are in control of what you do then and afterwards - no kebabs, greasy fry ups and crazy uncontrollable munchies. Be good and you will still see the pounds come off. have fun!

I asked my consultant about this and she said that whilst they don't advocate saving syns, if you can come along on your weigh in day and be happy with your losses then it's up to you if you want to save your syns.
There seem to be lots of people here that do it and are still losing each week...
:)

My mum has just joined SW (different group to me) & she was given a "Smile face sheet" with 105 smiley faces on & instructions to cross one off for every syn. Funny how different groups work.

Totally! It's all about what works for you. I am pretty much at Target now. I did it while I was losing (+ know plenty who do) and still do it now. As long as you have a sensible, healthy attitude towards it and u are still losing then u know u are on track! Xxx
