I am on slimming world, have been following it for good fair while, because i like the way it helps me keep a balanced diet, as well as dropping a few pounds. Im not overweight, im about 9stone and 5ft5.

I am in a dilemma tho. I used to live at home with my mum and she did slimming world as well. However I am now at Uni living away from home. Got a new boyfriend, which is lovelyyyyyyy... however i am really struggling to stay on track when i go round there, because his mum cooks the dinners and not SW friendly at all. I am sticking 100% to the plan during the day, so when i go round there the syns arent that bad!

can someone suggest a way to get round this, i dont want to be seen as a fussy eater, and ive even tried the eating before i go round there, but his mum doesnt take no for a answer when i say im not hungry!! im sure she is a feeder!!!

its getting me a bit down, as im dreading going round there!!!

xxx

to me you've said your 100% during the day then the syns at theirs isn't that bad so whats the problem? Do 100% during the day and use your syns for meals at the boyfriends.

You have to be firm and explain nicely exactly what you are doing, and that you will eat before you come round or give her a list of what you can eat if she's still wanting you to eat with them :)

I'm sorry but I think this is awfully rude.

I presume his mum isn't charging you for the meals you're eating?

2 choices, eat there with them and eat what she makes, or don't.

I think putting demands on somebody else is a bit off.

I know exactly where I'd stuff a list like that if somebody came into my house and give me one!!

i agree totally with this.

Agreed, it would be rude. But aren't you heading for being underweight if you lose?

i agree with this, you should be looking at keep a healthy eating lifestyle rather than losing any more weight.

Have you thought that maybe this need to control every meal is not healthy? Personally I'd find this more worrying.
You're not overweight, you can accommodate a few meals off plan.

if you know you are going to be eating there, on that particular day have brekkie and lunch that would accomodate any plan so you have more scope for your evening meal. if theres bread or anything on the side then just make the best choice you can, and most of all, enjoy!!!!

yeah im not looking to loose weight at all. i just like the idea of eating healthy!!! i used to just live off crisps, bread etc and it made me feel pants! plus im a student nurse so found i was always tired when on shifts etc!!

thank you for the advise, i do red or green when i dont see him, and then ee when i do go round there so i can have the pasta meat etc!!

im just so used to eating set days from being at home, and following what my mum had its almost like habit now!! xx

Now that's a habit worth not trying to kick!
Well done you. I'd agree with the others though, if you so good for the rest of the week then the odd meal round the BF's house shouldn't be a problem.

I go to my bfs parents house for dinner on a regular basis, I was there last night for dinner and i phoned the day before and asked what she was cooking so if it was really bad i could bring my own.

She is lovely and made sure the whole meal was sw friendly. obv they had butter and gravy with their spuds and meat i jus didnt take any of that.

I think if you asked your bfs mum she would do the same thing for you :)

xx
hope you get it sorted

And I think your reply was rather rude too, we are all here to express our own opinions without being jumped on by others.

I meant that you could explain to her that you will eat at home or if she is still insistant that you go there for dinner explain that you are following SW and tell her what you can or can't eat if she wants you there she will be happy to oblige if not eat at home, some people are happy to accomodate for others.

Not that I should have to explain myself because of some rude person on here.

I do not think it is rude at all - surely any reasonable host would want the people they are cooking for to feel welcome and comfortable with the food options

After all would you serve up a roast when you knew that a person was a vegetarian- no you want to be considerate of your guests likes and dislikes - to do otherwise is the rude thing to my mind

To the OP does she know that you are on a healthy eating programme - if not I would talk it through with her and perhaps offer to help with the cooking or take a dish with you

Well first off, no veggie is being invited to my house for dinner :) if i went to a vegiies house for dinner i would expect a veggie meal. I think it is therefore unreasonablr for a veggie to expect someone to cater to them specifically.

I think that if someone phoned me & said i'm allergic to xyz thats no problem - its an allergy. If someone phoned and said 'i know you're on a diet but i'm not so here's a list of things i want to eat when i come to dinner, i'd be inclined to uninvite them. Its no different to phoning someone up & saying you can only eat certain things cos you're on a diet.

If that makes me rude, fine with me.

Hahahaha hilarious Sarah!

What time do you want me? x

I think its down to personal choice and its not rude to ask someone if they can cater for your needs wether you are on a diet or don't eat something, if the person cooking doesn't like it they can say no.
I had my friend here for the weekend who is doing high protein at the minute and I wouldn't dream of giving her what she doesn't eat as I wanted to make sure her stay with me was a happy one.
Each to their own but if you don't ask you'll never know.
