Does anyone drink any sort of protein shakes or eat any of those protein bars? Ive started training properly now and a lot of people have said protein bars are shakes make the world of difference but ive only just started back doing this plan and dont want to go over my syns

Nah they are just a gimmick! Unless you are a pro athlete you dont need them and if you want protein look to your free food lists

By the way they will all no doubt be high in syns

I synned a protein drink the other day and it was 6.5 syns for a portion of the low fat powder.

Protein powder is just a convenient quick way of intaking protein on the move- instead, just make sure you eat a protein rich snack within 20 minutes of training and it will be fine. I have either a fat free yogurt/dairy or boiled egg as a snack (both very high in protein) or if I train before a meal ensure the meal is protein rich (eggs on toast, lean meat/fish, cottage cheese in a jacket, etc)

I have trained in the past and protein shakes were very benficial. They provide a quick, high level of protein that is particularly good for muscle growth. When I hit target I will be using them, despite the syn value. Plus some of them are delicious lol

Lots of exercise websites advocate carbs before training and protein after, none of them mention the drinks, most mention eating a meal with eggs, meat or fish as it's base, so a nice mushroom omelette or a beef salad will do just as well, will fill you up and be free of syns!

My boyfriend drinks protein drinks after every session at the gym and still follows plan - the are a good few syns (I think he counts 6-9 for them) but he keeps them up - he's never had a problem at weigh in with them!
Good luck :)

thanks to everyone for your replies - not really sure whether to go for it yet. Might try the chicken and eggs as a source of protein first.
