Hi,
I was thinking of joining slimming world as it is the only weight loss group close to were i live. I dont know anyone who has done it before and people i ask are saying its just a fad and doesnt work. I really need to try something though. Can anyone tell me the basics (I know there is something about red days and green days) so I can decide before paying any membership fees.
Thanks
Lisa

Most diets work if you stick to the principles and eat sensibly and healthily after losing the weight.

I did SW a few years ago - and you have red days when you can eat protein and veg, but not carbs and then green days when you don't eat meat but can have pasta, rice, potatoes. There is obviously a lot more to it than that ... you have a choice of bread/cereals, free foods etc etc.

Why not go along to the meeting - ask if you can sit in and if you decide you can sustain it join at the end????

Where abouts are you??? Maybe someone on here lives close by.

Good luck anyway!

Hiya Lisa I have managed to lose 3 and a half stone since may so it can work. On your first visit you get the new member talk and then at the end you decide if you want to join or not but I think it was the best desition I have ever made to join SW. Everyone is different though and it suits some more than others the only way to know if it suits you is to give it a try.:D

Can you only eat specific veggies then as even veg have carbs in?

and then green days when you don't eat meat but can have pasta, rice, potatoes. There is obviously a lot more to it than that ... you have a choice of bread/cereals, free foods etc etc.
So is this a diet when you try not to eat carbs and proteins on the same day?

Hi I have been doing Slimming World since April and have lost just over 4 stone. Yes there are red and green days, but it doesn't mean you do not mix meat and carbs at all. On green days you can have unlimited carbs such as potatoes, rice, pasta and pulses as well as all vegetables and fruit. You can have a small amount of meat or fish, but it is taken as one of two 'B' choice healthy extras (the 'A' choice healthy extras are dairy based). On a red day you can have unlimited lean meat and fish, most vegetables (not starchy ones such as parsnips or pulses including peas; these are 'B' choices) and most fruit. You can have carbohydrates in the form of wholewheat pasta or potatoes with skins or pulses etc as a 'B' choice. Bread is limited to healthy extras on both days and then it has to be wholemeal. Anthing else is taken as syn of which you can have between 5 and 15 a day. Fat free or very low fat dairy is also unlimited. It sounds complicated and I was really sceptical at first, but it does seem to be working for me. I guess a big part of trying to lose weight is finding a plan that fits in with your lifestyle and eating habits.

It does sound complicated but it is really so easy. I mix and match green and red days throughout the week (well I used to, i've only been back on it since yesterday!). Yesterday for example, I had a red day, so I had bacon, scrambled egg, mushrooms and tomato for breakfast, a turkey sandwich and a mullerlight for lunch, and spicy chicken and peppers with some new potatoes for tea. Today i'm on a green day so I had beans on toast for brekkie and i'm having home made macaroni cheese later (recipe from this month's magazine)

It always works for me!
