More water more weight loss???

Hi Peeps,
Just wanted to see peoples opinions on this one...
I'm due for my first weigh in on Monday and have been drinking just over 2L of water a day so far..its about all I can manage..
However...do you think drinking more than this will help with the weight loss, is it true that the more water you drink the more weight you will actually lose?? If so I may have to force myself to try and drink an extra litre or so a day to help me get where I want to be quicker..
Thoughts please :) xx

All the water you can possibly drink! i find it easier to have a two liter bottle in work and pour it into cups. it seems to go a lot quicker when its in a cup! Rather than out of a bottle. You 'll have to see what the others say about helping you lose weight though cos im only on my second week. LOL! x

It is a lil difficult in the beginning. I myself used to manage just 2 litres a day. Then after about 2 weeks had to force myself but it worked. Now i manage 3-3.5 litres. N sometimes 4 litres

I personally have found if I drink 3ltrs a day I have much better losses. Sometimes I only manage 2ltrs ....but as long as more days are 3ltrs than not I manage the big losses :) x x x

My pharmacist says 2-4 litres a day, but only go over 4 if you have to (or if additional exercise means you expend more water. I see in earlier threads that that doesn't include the water included in your food.

Im drinking 4lts a day - I have a 2lt bottle in work and every morning I will fill a 2lt bottle at home and drink that in the morning before I go to work and then when I get home from work. In addition to that, I have around 6 cups of decaf coffee.

Hmm, I was explicitly told to try to break the drinking up. That drinking big amounts in one sitting wasn't the way to go. Not sure why, though.

U r right, the water should b drunk throughout the day, n not exceed 4L a day.

I have to have sporadic drinking lol.... I try to have 1.5 litres before i leave for work.... usually about 10.15am....

Then at least 1 litre throughout the day at work.... then the extra 1/1.5 litres throughout the evening... stopping about 7.30/8...

Seems to work for me!! Its not done my losses any harm ; )

Oh and i have an extra 1 litre when i do my c25k walk/run!!

part of my problem is if i drink too much when at work i cannot always find a suitable loo,not all the houses i visit would you want to use their facilities !!!!!!or i am driving !!!! i can drink the water no probs .....its getting rid of it thats the problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

drink, drink, drink because you do have better loses. i always take a 2 ltr bottle of sparkling water to work with me, and use my shake beaker lol, seems to go quicker that way (to me anyway lol)

I have been at the other end of not drinking enough and the stomach/bowel troubles i got were awful. i try to aim for 3 ltr a day (not counting what i use for shakes and coffee etc)

Yes, I think you should up it a bit - if you're aiming for 3 litres I'd say that's about reasonable and a bit more won't hurt.

It IS important to drink it fairly regularly through the day - it's about how much your kidneys can process at any one time... Your body can actually process up to 15 litres of water a day, IF the intake is spread out evenly.

The danger comes when you drink a large amount in one go (afraid I'm not sure how large that amount is...) and the kidneys struggle to get it all processed. In that case, the excess water moves into your cells and they swell. If the brain swells too much and presses against the skull that's critically dangerous. Warning signs can be a headache, dizzyness, possibly confusion and nausea.

Having given you a scare story, I'd suggest it's unlikely to happen unless you're doing something very extreme like running a marathon, which I doubt any of us are up to at the moment!

Incidentally, as it seems to be a topic of confusion/conflicting advice at the mo, I'll add my two-penn'orth about tea and coffee - I've done a bit more research and in my opinion you should count the water in teas and coffees towards your water intake. BUT if you're drinking caffeinated drinks, only count about half of the liquid amount. This is a VERY rough guideline, but will go some way towards compensating for the diuretic effect (making you go to the loo more/quicker...).

Take care,
Marianne x

Do you make your fizzy water or buy bottled... there's a thread here somewhere about the amount of sodium (salt) in bottled water and LT official line is to only have a couple of glasses of fizz!!!
