Any one tried the aloe colon cleanse?
I's it safe I'n this diet , getting a little worried as no toilet movement since monday
Thanks I'n advance

Not tried it but i wouldn't worry about the lack of movement, you're hardly putting anything in so don't expect much out. You're keeping up your fluids which is the main thing, if you start to actually feel constipated and uncomfortable, or like you need to go but you can't then try some senna tablets first, it's less extreme and might do the trick x

I recommend pure psyllium husks - they have zero carbs and cals and are cheaper than the colon cleanse. I used them throughout my VLCD back in 2006/7

They absorb 20 times their own weight in water which bulks things out and helps move it all along and can be used long term with no ill effect.

I get mine online either from Healthspan (£8.95 for 300g post free) or Oneon (£11 for 900g post free)

I just put 1tsp in with my shakes. It gives them a slightly thicker consistency (bit like a thick shake) and because the water you drink bulks the husks out, you feel fuller for longer.

Hope this helps x

I'm not sure what you are and are not allowed to eat, but this was discussed on another thread recently, but I can't remember where:cool: You could do a search & see if you can find it, there was a fair amount of discussion.

Hiya - do you put 1tsp in with every shake or just one per day? Also, does it have a taste to it, or it it just a texture change to the shakes? I'm really struggling with regularity and feeling quite yuck from it, swinging from stomach cramps and feeling really sluggish.

I've tried the aloe vera colon cleanse tablets, they're very gentle - similar to using Senna. I've no idea if they're 'allowed' though sorry.

I have Psyllium Husk tablets too and they're great - I wonderr if my tablets will be allowed too? (I start tomorrow!)

I don't use the PH tablets but the powder because I like adding it to my shakes and soups. The amount you have doesn't really matter as it's totally carb and cal free - I put a little in every shake or soup.

I put one teaspoonful in my shakes and probably 2tsp in my soup so it thickens up like a broth so I can eat it from a bowl with a spoon. It doesn't really alter the taste of the shake or soup ... but does thicken it. Some may like that and others may not.

It's not like an ice-cream thick shake ... more like a very thin 'muesli' texture.
My order from Oneon came today ... OMG the container is huge lol. 900g for £11 - what a bargain (three times the size of the ones I've had before for the same price)!
It's milled more finely and looks a bit like sand so it'll probably be less 'bitty' that my other stuff.

I can vouch for how effective it is. Once I started using it on Cambridge I was NEVER constipated again and that horrible 'sluggish' feeling disappeared.
The other good thing about it is that it sort of gathers up 'impurities' in your colon as it goes (bit like a snowball) ... that's where the 'colon cleanse' bit comes from in the name of Holland and Barrett's product.

Hope this helps x

I used the colon cleanse from Holland and Barrett and I found them helpful, takes a little experimenting to find the correct dose for you, I found two before bed ment a....ahemm...movement...in the morning. I am about to start Exante and had wondered about that side of things...hate that bloated feeling...may take your advice Russian Doll, like the sound of a thick shake!!

I'd definitely recommend the Oneon website. Here's a link

A 900g tub will last literally months and months even using it every day. :)

hi , you would need to check the ingredients of the colon cleanse stuff as not sure if it contains anything that would knock you out of ketosis . I use movicol or dulo pico perles if i need them , tried phyllium husks and didnt work for me , although I know many people use them with great effect x

Thanks for the info on the psyllium husks Russiandoll :D
I've been wanting to take something so I dont keep feeling bloated and heavy, I'd heard about the psyllium husks but didn't know how much to take or anything so thanks again for the info.
I'll be buying some of the stuff when I get paid.

If you pm me your address I'll send you a couple of day's worth in a sealed bag if you'd like to give them a go without shelling out. They'll cost next to nothing to send so I'd be happy to do it x

PS
I'm not a psychotic maniac who wants to poison you or anything - people here can vouch for me :D

Sorry for TMI but I am going about twice a week 'naturally' since starting exante, and by naturally I mean without any help. I have taken a Maxi Strength Senokot 2 times so far which did the trick the next morning like it's meant to. But I do wonder if going so little is actually normal due to what our intake is as Thetrigos mentioned.

I've never been a person to go every day, maybe every other day. When I was younger I used to suffer with constipation terribly and would go once every 7 - 14 days! and would feel bloated and I had a hard time going when the time came. For about 5 or 6 years now it's been better and I would go every other day or every 3 days which is a lot better than 7 or 14 days.

Maybe if it is normal to only need to go every few days on this diet then we shouldn't be worrying about taking supplements to make us more regular then? I'm just curious... but I guess it's comes down to that saying 'everyone is different'. I keep wanting to take some Senokot to get me to go but then think maybe going so little is ok/normal on this diet .

It probably is ... depends on you as an individual. However, it's not the frequency as much as the difficulty when you do 'go' that can be a problem on a VLCD.

I don't like taking 'cures' (laxatives) for constipation as the body can become dependant on them - I prefer to prevent the problem from occurring in the first place. That's why I use PH ... it's very gentle (can be used by people with IBS - in fact it's recommended to them rather than bran), it's non habit forming and doesn't damage the diet in any way. So for me it's win-win. I think each of us eventually finds a way that suits us to get through the VLCD process whether it's how to mix a shake with no lumps or how to prevent constipation. Hearing tips from others is a bonus - their ideas may or may not work for everyone but are often worth trying. :)

You make a very good point Russiandoll and I think I'm going to try some of this psyllium husks myself now. Even though I am only needing to go about twice a week, I am having difficulty while 'going' which is a little frustrating.

When I took my first Maxi Strength Senokot I was a little worried because the normal Senokot that I tried before used to give me bad stomach cramps the next day, unfortunately the cramps were a little worse with the maxi strength. I find that side effect of Senokot for me rather unpleasant, maybe it's just me and some other people don't experience this.

I think as the others have said it's not about how much you go, so much as going enough to be comfortable. If i don't need to go i'm not worried, but if i feel like i need to go but can't (like i do much of the time at the moment) then i'll try something to help that! I'm definitely going to try some PH as i'm not losing weight and i'm sure part of it is down to the fact that i haven't been to the toilet properly in about 10 days x

I've already offered this to one member and am happy to do the same for others ....

If you'd like a few days worth of Psyllium Husks just to see if they suit you, PM me your address and I'll send you some. It's no hardship for me as I have almost a kilo of the stuff :D

xx

Just drink that Asda Coke Zero drink, you will never stop visiting the loo. Stuff used to make that is like drain cleaner, will cleanse your internals lol
