Dinner disasters.

Want to lose a stone!
Some of the suggested SW recipes are great but some are absolutely hideous!

Ive made their chilli con carne which tasted awful. Luckily I saved it with various input to make it barely ok.

But then last night I made their scandanavian 'meatballs' the meat balls were quorn mince and mash potato balls which fell apart into a hideous tasteless mush. It made my son gag whe. He tried to swallow a mouthful! It was BAD.

Pleass tell me of your disaters so I can avoid the recipe like the plague!

The cauliflower cheese was pretty bad when I did it! The sauce separated so it was water then thick sludgy white goo, despite me following the recipe to the word!

The pad thai was another disaster - somehow it was just fairly tasteless, though there are some people in my group who like it :S

I made a pasta bake with cottage cheese/egg that was pretty revolting to my taste but I know some people think that that is fine.

The worst one for me was turkey and lemon burgers - my son even said 'Mummy, these smell bad!' when I put them in front of him. I don't think grated apple belongs in burgers myself. Having said that, I've seen at least one person absolutely rave about them.

Now, I prefer to modify 'normal' recipes to make them sw friendly - seems a lot safer to me!

Ah see we liked that pasta bake you guys are on about. Mine seperated too but with our eyes closed we thought it taste good. ;)

I've been modifying my regular meals now too.

i havent really had any disasters, have you tried the chilli recipe from th sw website? thats lovely

I can't say I've had any disasters either! A few recipes that were a bit bland, but I cook a new (to me) SW recipe probably four or five times a week - have been since I started in late January - so I'd say that was pretty good going! :D I did have some SW potato rosti fall apart quite badly, but they still tasted nice, so I'm not sure that qualifies as a disaster!

Can't say I like the sound of grated apple in burgers either though, lol. Never been a fan of cooked fruit in savoury dishes though.

I tend to just make up my own stuff! I look in the book for free foods, and then I make up recipes based on what I fancy on the day! I tend to use mainly free foods as I like to save my syns for alcohol at the weekend lol! :)

Not had any massive disasters really. The SW lasagne where you use fat free fromage frais for the white sauce tasted a little odd, but was edible. The only think I didn't like was the leek and potato pie thing, I couldn't eat it at all, but dad thought it was amazing!

Generally, I now just adapt regular recipes, or just make it up. Attempting chicken noodle soup tonight. Hope it's nice, but OH was put off when he saw the home made chicken stock wobbling away in the fridge :D

Ive not had any disasters as such, but I do tend to find most of their recipes bland :(The wet stuff is really watery and the dry stuff really crumbly. I find the generally pretty rubbish and prefer to just pick a recipe from somewhere reliable and adapt it to make it healthy/fit the plan.

I've hated the curries from the Curry heaven book!
Looking at the ingredients I think most of them are bland, in fact they remind me of US recipes.

I really really liked the turkey and lemon burgers!
I haven't had any disasters, but I think that's because I'm very cautious about what recipes I'll try! Lol

I made for the first time .... egg fried rice, added quorn and peas ... so funny looked like something you get in prison... not that ive been there, hahahah back to the drawing board for me, i will get it correct as i love egg rice :-(

I find them quite bland too, I usually put extra flavouring in. I think it's the lack of oil/butter that takes away some of the richness of flavour.

My worst disater was a beef casserole with spinach. It turned into a green gloopy mess with bits of beef. Others have been ok, but I wouldn't necessarily make them again. Most are lovely though.

Raquel I did egg fried rice recently. i just use my regular recipe though, rice, peas, eggs, spring onion and prawns if you want. Dead easy! And free!

There was a recipe in the SW mag maybe 2 years ago for Morocan Tagine and it is dee-lish! I have adapted it and usually now make it with beef meatballs instead of lamb (a lot cheaper!) and its my dinner party staple now.

I tried to make SW trifle and it was so revolting none of us could or would eat it lol
xx

Hahahaha, gotta say, I haven't tried many SW puds as many of them sound really dreadful ... I think it's safe to say that quark with Options hot chocolate powder stirred in is never going to convince me it's cheesecake :8855:
