Melissa's Weight Loss Diary

Hi All,

I started on Slimming World on 27 July 2011 as I wish to change my lifestyle as well as lose weight.

I'm 5'2" and then weighed 11st 12lbs. I held it extremely well (all over) so it was actually difficult for some people to understand why I wanted to lose weight, convinced there was another reason other than excess fat as to why I was that heavy. I invested in some scales that measure body fat and water and body fat definitely is the problem!

I suffer with flat back, which does tend to worsen with excess weight for me so that is another reason to lose weight.

I've always enjoyed exercising and despite my weight have always been conscious about what I put in my mouth, so the slimming world education has not been a hardship. The only thing I struggled with the start with is all the sweeteners etc as they're something I'd always avoided as 'unhealthy'. I still won't put sweetener in food unless absolutely necessary - I don't substitute this with anything I just leave plain.

I'm currently 10st 11.5lbs, having weighed in yesterday and got my stone award.

During the four weeks of September I was very half-hearted about the plan due to family visiting, my birthday, amongst other things. I lost two of the weeks and gained another to and ultimately only lost about half a pound or so that month! I'm thoroughly back on track though now and hoping to average two pounds a week up until Christmas. I'm well on the way having lost 2.5 lbs last week and 1.5lbs this week!

My challenge doing this is only that I'm really impatient for results. This sometimes leads me to feel 'what's the point' and want to binge on chocolate etc. Bearing in mind I was never one to binge particularly or majorly overeat I was just making some of the wrong food choices, often unaware of the damage certain foods and drinks were doing to my waistline.

The Syns value system really works for me as it shows just how much of those types of foods and drinks you can have before putting on weight. This is just the information I needed before hand!

I go to group and find that really helps, mainly for inspirational reasons!

Anyway, I'm hoping I can make a diary here to keep a note on my weight loss journey.

Melissa xx

Morning Honeybee (Melissa), good luck to you with your diet and diary, I was actually thinking of starting a diary myself this morning also, however whilst I may be committed my internet connection at home has been practically non exsistant since before August bank holiday. I'm sure blogging will help me to appreciate each small achievement and keep motivation high.
I do attend a wonderful SW group, that I look forward to attending on Saturday mornngs.

So, today is the start of a new Slimming World week! Another 8lbs and I'll be halfway to target... another 2.5lbs and I'll be a Club 10 member having lost 10% of my body weight! Exciting times ahead! Over the last couple of weeks I must have crossed over some kind of 'line' in the way I look as people have started to really notice and comment on how I great I look!

Breakfast today was strawberries with Onken Fat free strawberry yoghurt on and a piece of brown bread (400g Warburtons loaf) toasted with marmite on.

I've had an amazing couple of weeks diet wise, but I do feel so tired. I have a busy schedule of work and Monday's is a long day of about 12 hours with travelling, with a lot of new things to think about and work on during the day as I'm studying LLB Law and Taxation at university. I've found the last couple of days I've been totally wiped to the point I can't even wake up in the morning and when I do I feel awful and headachey. I'm only on the second week of my final year though after taking a year out to work at a large London company so the change is probably tiring me more than anything.

I'm off the gym later with a friend. We go usually once a week, last week we went twice. My plan is if we find time to go twice a week regularly I'll get a membership. I want to start running really as well but I'm worried about damaging my knees. I think I'm going to wait to start that until my BMI is within the normal range.

Hi Spangle_2!
Thanks for the reply! Yes start a diary I think it will really help :)
Slimming World is great. Have you been attending very long? My friend started last week and she's loving it already. This is the lifestyle I've wanted to find the time to have for a long time. I've managed to find the time from somewhere!

Feeling great after an hour and a half at the gym. Now cooking spag bol. I was feeling a little low earlier so my appetite diminished. Just had egg noodles, courgette and quorn chicken with some seasoning on for lunch - all free. I've snacked on a couple of crispbreads at 1 Syn each. I'm going to have a Freddo bar tonight. I can't remember the last time I ate chocolate! A normal day for me is between 0 and 2 syns, usually averaging out at 0 or half a syn so this is quite a high syn day for me after the freddo bar, oh well may have an options hot chocolate too... why not go the whole hog! Loving this diet at the moment!

Thursday 13th October 2011

Morning all!

Feeling a lot more energised today after the gym yesterday. I MUST get on with some work now!

Only fuelled by a banana and a cup of tea so far but going to have some fat free yoghurt of some kind with a cup of green tea to really get me going.

I didn't have the Freddo or the hot chocolate in the end yesterday so I had 3 syns in total as I munched through another 2 crispbreads whilst making dinner (it was late by the time I served it - about 8.45pm!)

Plan to have some kind of breakfast meal for lunch so I'll see what I can rustle up later on :)

I did my measurements yesterday (I just do them as and when not on a set day). My starting measurements on 29 July 2011 were:
Chest: 40"
Waist: 35"
Hips: 42"
Upper leg [R]: 25"
Upper leg [L]: 24.5"

Yesterday my measurements were:
Chest: 37"
Waist: 31.5"
Hips: 38.5"
Upper leg [R]: 25"
Lower leg [L]: 23"

This is great!!! A bit worried about my right leg, it's being stubborn and not losing any inches despite my left leg shrinking. I'm just going to go with it though and work on it more as I reach target as I'm guessing fat doesn't necessarily burn evenly as you lose it. My right arm is also flabbier than my left arm. I should have measured those really but I didn't :-( They've definitely got smaller though and more toned as been working on them at the gym. Can see some definition there as well now!

Good day today I think, though saying that stomach is rumbling now! Time for yoghurt!

See ya!
