Losing weight now as we want a baby!

Hi all

Me and my OH have always been keen on the idea of starting a family soon, and the urge is getting stronger by the day. We hope to start trying in approximately a year.

There's one problem. I'm 24 and tipping the scales slightly shy of 28 stone.

I know it is not healthy for me to try to carry a child at the moment and so I am trying (for what feels like the 5000th time) to lose the pounds.

I don't eat as unhealthily anymore, but I am still left with the after effects. I am pretty lucky in the fact I don't not have a high blood pressure or diabetes.

The road to where we want to be seems so far away, and for someone who has wanted children since they can remember, it breaks me to know I'm the only person who has put myself in this position.

I'm just wondering if anyone else is in my position or has been and can offer any advice!

:-(

Hiya, I just wanted to say good luck. I think its very wise you try to lose some weight before you get pregnant, its a bit of a strain on the body at the best of times. What diet are you following?

I'm following slimming world, always been a WW girl but the new pro points system baffled me!

Good luck with it, I can't stick to anything - never could, but I will after this baby. Imagine how amazing and proud you'll feel when your a bit slimmer and healthier with a lovely bump ;)

I'm in the same boat. We want a baby more than the world but u have pcos and was 22stone 10. I am 19 stone now and still have 7 stone to lose at least! I have a 12 month target and am also following slimming world (love my food to much for any other diet!) I find it hard to stay motivated but I'm 26 now and with my pcos it will be hard to conceive even at a healthy weight so I need to do this before in 30. It makes me cry just thinking about how I got so big, so I'm trying to be positive and take it one week at a time! We will get there Hun x

hi ladies im 33 and my husband is 51 and we have been trying for a baby for over 5 years i have pcos and weigh 18 stone, doctors will not help me unless my bmi is 35 and just found out last week that the nhs will never give me ivf as my husband already has childeren from another marriage :( do need bmi to be 30 and will have to pay,

i'm sure we can all do it is just so hard, but lets keep trying xx

I'm also big and out of 9 years of unprotected sex (same partner of course) I've only been pregnant 4 times (the first ended in miscarriage.) My experience is like this, I only ever got pregnant when I stopped trying - no more hand stands lol, having sex at certain times of the month and testing every time my period was due. Every pregnancy came after I'd lost about 50lb (I've always been bad during pregnancy and put the weight back on) every pregnancy came after I'd been on a diet that was high in vitamins and minerals (The first after using a home juiced fruit and veg diet the second after using Slim Fast and the third after using Exante)

So my opinion, work on losing some weight, but don't make it about trying for a baby make it about trying to improve your health. Stop "trying" and just enjoy the sex ;p. Don't just work on losing weight and restricting your calories, improve your diet. Just my opinions and what's worked for me.

Good luck ladies xxx
