oats so simple

I grate an apple in and add cinnamon or grate a pear in and stir through with some ginger.

(I don't cook the porridge with the apple in, just grate it in and stir after it's made to keep it free)

hi just wondering if you all make it with milk or water? thansk

I make mine with skimmed milk, have never tried it with water. Would be interested to know what other people think if they've tried it with water?

just wondering do you have to have somthing else to eat with this like a ryvita or somthing to make it a complete healthy extra??

Yes you need to have either a scan bran or a wholegrain crackerbread ryvita to make it a HEXB. Oat so simple on it's own doesnt have enough fibre which is why you need to have a scan bran or ryvita with it

You don't NEED to have the extra the ryvita WG crackerbread/Scan bran. You get one free with the Oat so simple, so you can have it if you chose but it's not 100% necessary to eat an entire healthy extra, SW say so. :)

Where do they say so Shrimpy? Just wondering as this question comes up so often it's be good to have a link. I cant logically see how it counts as a HEX without the fibre so a straight answer direct from SW would be great.

Taken from the FAQs:
Q: Do I have to eat all my Healthy Extras every day?
A: It won't affect your weight loss if you don't take all your Healthy Extra choices. However, the Healthy Extra section is there to ensure a balanced diet, so from a health point of view we recommend that you enjoy all your Healthy Extras each day.

In the search bar type in healthy extras and this is the second FAQ.

Yes but that's not what I asked. The OP asked whether you could have the Oats WITHOUT the Scanbran/Ryvita - not whether you had to have all your HEXes.

According to the reasons something qualifies as a HEX the logical answer should be No, as *without* the ScanBran the oats simply do not qualify as a HEXB in the first place, as they do not, in themselves, have enough fibre. The fibre content is *the reason you have to have* a Ryvita/ScanBran/whatever with them from what I understand. It's not that you "get one free", its because without the added fibre the oats so simple do not qualify as a HEXB. Otherwise rather than say "28g of eg Jordans Muesli AND a ScanBran" why not just say "35g of Jordan's Muesli" which would have the equivalent syns.

So if you're just gonna have the oats that's fine but you should be synning it - it is NOT a HEX without the added fibre of the ScanBran/Ryvita, or it would be listed as such, (as all other cereals which DO have enough fibre in them are).

(It would be logical to have eg 14g of eg Jordan's muesli and half a ScanBran, as that would still qualify as a HEX, even if you didnt have ALL your HEXes. But skipping the fibre means it simply is not a HEX and you should be synning it instead.)

We've had this argument so many times now. Im quite happy to be proven wrong as at least then it would be clarified once and for all, but Ive yet to see an actual SW statement saying so, which is what I thought you meant you had.

I have phoned and been told that that is the case. If you would like I will email them, but I checked this already with them way back when I started SW in March 2010.

I think it would be helpful to have it written down to post a link to an official SW answer every time someone asks the question.

Okie doke, I have emailed and will post the reply when I get one.
