Huge dilemma, what should I do?

Firstly can I just explain, me & my partner of more than 16yrs have finally set a date for our wedding after being engaged 3 times and just not getting around to getting married for whatever reason, we have decided to get married October 26th 2012.

My dilemma is, I am currently a size 14 almost a 12, everyone is saying I need to order my dress about a year before the wedding which would be next month, I am really hoping I will b a size 10 for the wedding and it is more than do_able, but what if I platuea at a size 12? should I order the dress in a size 12 then have it altered or should I buy a 10 and have something to aim for, we arent having a huge wedding just low key after being together so long so I was hoping to buy an off the rack dress in a size 10 (not too expensive) Help!! anyone been in a similiar situation? what would/did you do? I just feel if I get a size 10 then there is so much pressure on me to fit it...but on the flip it would motivate me to my goal.... oh I dont know what to do, please please help!!!

When I got married in 2002 I was a size 14. When I got my dress a year before it was a 20. It is by far easier to bring in a dress than let it out. So I would go for the bigger size and research dressmakers in your area.. find one, discuss your needs and find out costs. If you order a 10 and you are not a 10 when it comes to it then it will be much much harder to sort out. The dress maker will need material etc... could be more expensive. Also wedding dresses tend to come up smaller than normal clothes.. so a 12 is probably a 10 anyway x

That is what I was thinking, but hubby to be said "u'll be at goal in no time" I told him its not as straight forward as that as xmas is looming and pressure of wedding etc who knows, yeah think I will go for a size 12 (or whatever size fits at time of buying) and have it altered.

Thank u

probably with the stress of the wedding you will lose weight anyway :) i would go for the size 10 being as your almost a size 12 now.and like you said it will give you something to aim for, good luck in what ever you decide to do and good luck for your wedding xx

Thanks lol now I'm back to square 1 oh wot to do, I know it would push me and I'm more than capable of doing it, but in the otherhand it petrifies me thinking if I don't fit it I'm in a awful mess eek although I could wait till 6 months b4 wedding seeing as I'm gonna buy an off the rack one then I'll kinda know what size I'm hitting hmmm decisions, oh but then if it does need altering I mightn't have given myself enough time ahhhhh

I bought my dress 12 weeks before my wedding!
I ended up getting pregnant so had to have it let out and a panel in the back but you couldnt even tell.
Dresses come up in funny sizes, I was a size 12/14 when I ordered my dress but my dress had to be ordered in a 20 as there not made to fit, there made to it the biggest part of your body then they alter it round that part - I would get the 12, that way you know it's going to fit, best case theyll have to take it in!

Go out in a couple weeks like you said just for a wee look about. If you settle on one speak to the sales assistants and explain your situation. They'll be able to help you and tell you whats best to do. Personally i'd wait till a bit nearer the time, that way i think you'll have a better idea of your shape etc.

Hope you find the perfect dress and enjoy your big day :)

Hi, when I got married 20 yrs ago I weighed 8 st 3 lb (those were the days!!) I was in a size 10 and was advised to get a size 12 so as to be comfortable on the day as it's a long day to wear something if you're going to feel uncomfortable. My daughter who is 16yrs oldand a size 8 often tries it on and it even fits her without looking over big so I would definetely advise the size 12. Sorry for rambling on, hope this helps x

Thanks everyone, going out tomorrow looking at dresses so will explain my predicament oh getting excited now
