Hi all.

First time poster.

Did lighter life two summers ago. lost 7 stone in around 4/5 months. Kept it of for about 6 months and then it crept back on. Or at least half of it did. I have been suffering from depression for over a year, and this sapped/zapped my willpower and I basically comfort ate myself fatter.

This is the end of it though.

My life is on a much more even keel and I feel able to take on the challenge.

Opted for Exante as I know the theory, which is all you pay LL so much for. Had my last proper meal on Sunday, and started Exante Monday morning. Pretty sure I'm in ketosis already, but have ordered some pee sticks to be sure.

Milkshakes are ok, am going to start having a bar a day from Friday onwards.

Challenge I'm having is telling people. I was open about LL. But admitting to people I'm doing it again feels a bit like defeat...:banghead:

Anyways, my glycogen seems to have burned off quickly. On LL I lost an amazing 18lbs in week one. Apparently that's not so rare for us chaps....

Aiming to lose at least three stones, but do want to keep losing after I start eating chewable hot food again!

So, I thought I'd find a forum to post on,
to help me maintain focus. Seems to be mainly ladies on here....hopefully you'll still make me welcome!

Hiya Big D!!!!

Of course we shall make you welcome :0)

I too did LL last year and got down to around 10st 4lbs..... Started Exante last Monday (currently in day 10) and have lost 11lbs already so very pleased to be back in the 10's n feeling a hell of a lot better for it!!

I made the same mistake by going back to eating crap and drinking lots of alcohol so hence why I am here :0) but this time it will not get the better if us eh???!!!

I'm already looking at the Atkins board for a longer term solution post Exante, or a high protein, low carb based plan of some kind at least because I can't imagine not ever eating carbs ever again I have to say!!

Good luck and stay strong the first few days, there are other men species on here too :0) and I'm sure they'll be along to wish you luck very soon!!!!

Jo xx

Thanks Jo.

I am on day 4 now. Still getting the odd hunger pang but nothing I can't handle. Coming to realise how often I was eating rubbish without really thinking.

Saving a fortune already in coffee, cake, chocolate and other crap....

Genuinely feeling thinner already. Played football twice this week, going for a run on Saturday and already feeling the buzz I got from LL.

BUT....off to a friends tomorrow. Families are getting together for Pizza....

It will be fun watching them eat the devil's foot while I gnaw at me Exante bar....

And drinking black coffee while they get through some ale and wine..

all worth it though....:fingerscrossed:

Welcome Grimois, Read the first post and well done you for getting your depression on a even keel/under control. Depression is a very difficult disease to deal with day in and day out. And it wouldn't surprise me that it contributed to weight gain. I suffer with manic depression and bipolar, so I completely understand how diffcult it is to try to make changes to your life/attitude/thoughts/weight when your head isn't in the right place. I'm glad you feel so level that you can now start to make positive changes.

Don't feel defeat, it's all part of your journey and it's what makes your journey unique! good luck!

Well done on day 4 Big D!!! The first week is a killer but stick with it!! I'm day 11 now and don't want food at all, apart from the occasional meat based craving!

I'm even managing to cook the devils food without wanting to 'taste' it!!! I won't mention the food type but its one of those that as soon as you smell it ya have to have it!!!!

As Kizzle said, depression is horrific, I've had bouts of it throughout my adult life due to one thing and another so know how you feel! My Dad has also suffered deep depression for many years now due to Gulf War Syndrome!!!

At least doing Exante will make you feel positive about one aspect of your life at least and then the snowball effect will happen and it'll thaw into other parts if your life too.....it's where it all starts, feel good about yourself and the rest will fall into place!!!

Beware the pizza though, worse than the devils food!!

So, it's day 5. Some evil beggar made chilli con carne yesterday at work, and the smell of it seeped down to my desk.....my first real craving.

Pleased with how it's going - been able to resist the temptation to nibble, which has been frequent.

Off with the wife and kids to a friends tonight for pizza. I'm taking my choc/orange bar to nibble on, and I'm sure I will be fine....

And finally, I was chuffed yesterday to read the extra drinks stickied thread. If it's true I can have Coke Zero, I think it will help me not to cave....

Yeah it is true! I put mine in a glass in the freezer and break up the crystals so it's like a slushie! nom nom!

So, last night was Pizza night. Wasn't as tough as I expected, till late on when I was alone in the kitchen and there were two small slices of left over pepperoni.....the temptation nearly beat me till I thought about how I would feel if I cheated, and stopped myself....

Quite pleased really. First time I had the desire and opportunity to cheat, and I beat it....

Day 6 here we come. As I type the smell of my two year old son Archie's toast is driving me crazy. Time for a black coffee I reckon....

Weekends will be tough I think...at work it's somewhat easier to distract yourself by being busy, I find....

any tips?

I don't want to absent myself everytime my family eat, as I think it's important to be round them at mealtimes....

And I enjoy cooking, so I will continue that...

Isn't it weird how when your on exante you can smell other peoples food so much stronger!

My mum had toast yesterday and had some primulae cheese and chive spread and I could smell the chives all the way in the lounge!

I sat across from my mum yesterday while she ate her lunch and found it relativly easy, because I had a shake at the same time. she had her lunch and I had mine.

and with regard to weekend try and do something you have been planning on doing e.g cleaning outthe garage or sorting out the attic or go walking with the children or even go for a swim at the local pool :) I found doing stuff i wouldnt normally do has really helped with the boredom and eating thing. :)

Hi Grimois, just read through your diary you are definately on track to a good WI this week.
What is it about toast??? Irresistible! well done for not giving in to that one.

Keep sipping the water, I found when I drank Dr Pepper zero yesterday made me hungry so I am avoiding it with a passion. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Ali xx

Hiya Big D......

How did the rest of your weekend go??......well done for staying away from the pepperoni!!

Only a few more days and the worst will be over

Stay strong

So I had a very brief blip on Saturday night. Was making my kids their favourite, pasta carbonara, and like a fool tasted it. which led to about 4 forkfuls and a nibble of cheese.....

Tasted good, felt like a t*t afterwards.... Very unhappy. But picked myself up yesterday and dusted myself off. It also seemed to have little effect on ketosis (my ketostix haven't arrived yet, but my breath was still mega offensive when I woke up and I'm still on three brushes a day, + mouthwash - NICE) Good day yesterday, and reckon I'm on target for a mega first week loss tonight.

I'm conscious that there's not many men on here, so be warned ladies - when I was on Lighter Life I lost 17lbs week one. It soon tapered down but it did fall off me!

I don't expect that much - I've started three sonts lighter than last time, but I am already wearing shirts that were slightly too tight to wear...

Anyway, I'm not reflecting too much on my "blip" - other than to say that VLCD feels harder second time round, but I've been tempted loads and only succumbed once....

So here's to a good number tonight and a good week 2.

How come your weighing in the evening??

Hey G
Most people find VLCDs harder after the first try but you can do it and great that you get such fabulous losses that'll be great to hear make sure you keep it up and keep us competitive ladies on our toes ;)
Well done at stopping at the few mouthfuls you did and I hope WI goes well x

Just easier for me - I leave home at 6am in darkness so as not to wake up Mrs G and the little G's.... I'll weigh at the same time each week, 9pm, so loss should be a true figure even if I'm carrying some water.

Hi G still doing well even after your teeny hand to mouth slip! RE: ^^ I have listerine breath freshener strips which are great, easier than carrying a toothbrush around, I can only get them on ebay tho nowhere locally sells them :(

Men always tend to lose more and at a faster rate than women, I remember a man in our SW class kept us all in the race hehe

Good luck with WI xx

just weighed in...13lbs off week one!!!! Excellent. about 25% of the way to my target in a week. I know it will slow down, but I hope to average about 4lbs a week....
