OK, I want to come clean!

I have stopped taking the OB!

I have read about all the reasons why one should take it on Dukan but I did a test without the OB and dairy for a few days and the weight started dropping.

My father came to visit me in France for 10 days and I couldn't follow the diet properly. Tis was the first time I hadn't gone by the book, not even tolerated items for six months. But just before he arrived I was stalling and even from the start my loss has always been extremely slow.

When I left off the OB my weight started dropping, even almost 4 lbs in one day!!

I am now back in the UK and on day two of strict Dukan. Today a PP day. I plan on not taking the OB this week to see what it brings.

Perhaps I am one of the unlucky ones that is sensitive to it and it causes me to lose less? Would be interested to know if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Hmmm...interesting...I might give it a go for a few days, though god knows how I'm gonna survive without my muffins.

I'm getting bored of it and it's not helping with 'transit issues' like it's supposed to. If we don't have it thought what else can we eat for breakfast??? I have oat bran porrdige with cinnamon every morning!

I really miss it. I was making the moist cake with 2tbs of OB so would eat the lot in a day. But I started eating it at night because it really did make me want more!

Most people say it fills them up, even though it does me for a short while I feel it sets off a trigger wanting more. I really do suspect I may be sensitive to it.

The last two mornings I have put small pieces of the cheap cut salmon in the pan when scrambling eggs and it is delicious!

Locket, please please teach me how to make those muffins!

I use the toffee muffin recipe, in the recipes section, as a base. I never use Muller yogurts though as it is a tolerated item and I try avoid those, where possible. I usually just substitute it with plain, fat-free yogurt and some flavouring (I have about 15 flavourings).
Tomorrow I'm going to replace some of the yogurt I'd normally use with fat-free cream cheese (I've only found this at Lidl and is actually 0.2% fat) and throw in some smoked salmon. I'll also leave out the oatbran. I've not done this version before but I do use the same recipe as a base and add and take things away to vary it all a bit. My variances of the muffin recipe has never really failed dismally and have always turned out edible and, most of the time, very yummy. You just need to experiment.

Thank u!

SD - and anyone else considering dropping the oatbran - I really think it's a shame and I'd look for other reasons as to why the weight isn't dropping off, if I were you.

The oatbran is indeed the carbiest thing we have on Dukan, and it increases our carbs compared to Atkins diet making our ketosis far lighter. Quite aside from the many many health benefits of oatbran (lowering cholesterol for one), I believe that it could assist us with the delicate transition between Cruise and Conso when carbs are reintroduced as we're not as low carb as all that.

With fewer carbs, yes you might lose weight faster but I'd be inclined to cut the carbs through shop purchased sweetened dairy, and by selecting green veg keeping away from carrots and beetroot for instance, rather than cutting out the oatbran.

Just my take on it. And I preferred posting my thoughts in case many newbies just follow.

Any other thoughts anyone?

Seconding Jo - Oatbran is not just there for show or bulk, it's a superfood in it's own right, and without it you may be depriving yourself of vital nutrients, the best way of keeping your digestive track healthy, and the means to transition into a stable weight at the end.

In the short term, yes, you will see a acceleration in weight loss - but almost certainly at the cost of medium and long term health and weight stability.

I am also going to add, again echoing Jo -The attack and cruise phases of Dukan are already pretty extreme, and one which even Dr Dukan will say should only he followed if the alternative - excess weight - is dangerous to health.

We should be very very very careful as individuals before diviating from the diet plan to make it even more extreme - by cutting out the last element of an entire food group for example - and very very very very very careful before we discuss it in way which may encourage others to make the same experiment with no evidence of its long terms effect on weight and health.

I LOVE my oatbran!!! Not because it's the carb-iest thing we have, not just because it's so adaptable and can be added to so many recipes but because it is such a wonderful, nutritious food with so many health benefits and at the end of this process we are all looking to be 'healthier' and not just 'slimmer'... Would you be slim at the expense of your health? I'd rather be healthy and lose that tiny bit slower!

The oatbran 99% of us is eating isn't the right stuff, for starters. The oatbran which is available from the Dukan shop is. It is finer and the processes it undergoes ensures that the health benefits that everyone is waxing lyrical about is possible. Oatbran was only introduced into this diet after many many years and because some of Dr Dukan's patients were struggling to stay on the diet without some kind of carb fix. Whereas oats, in any form, lowers cholesterol, the oatbran most of us is eating is not fulfilling the requirements needed from the oatbran to have those magical properties.
I'm dropping the oatbran for a few days to see what happens. My weight loss has been very slow despite my strict adherence to the diet. I doubt I'm putting my health at risk.

Even if this were this true - that finer oatmeal is more effective - it isn't really a good argument for dropping oatbran and doing without any of the health benefits at all.

After all - my cheap generic vitamin pill may not have all the benefits of a more expensive brand - but that's not a good reason not to take any vitamin pill at all.

Oatbran was only introduced into this diet after many many years and because some of Dr Dukan's patients were struggling to stay on the diet without some kind of carb fix.

The diet took many years of trial and error to reach its current form (a process that is still continuing) but note the word "patients" - at this stage Dr Dukan was treating patients, in his consulting room, whose health he could monitor personally.

I make an Oatbran pancake every morning and really miss it when I am away from home and can´t have it. I have perfected my pancake recipe to my taste by adding cinnamon, ginger and vanilla.

I am having trouble with gallstones at the moment so can´t stick to the diet as I would normally but the Dukan Pancake for breakfast is a must!

As well as being a really good addition to different meals, depending on how imaginative you are in the kitchen, the oatbran is an intrinsic part of the diet - cutting it out is like cutting protein out. As previously mentioned, it has beneficial qualities and honestly, nobody has ever been fat because they've eaten two tablespoons of oatbran a day.

Again, stalling is far likelier to have been caused by other
products such as shop bought yoghurts or carbonated drinks.

It's a shame the media has hyped this diet to such an extent that people approach it as a quick-fix without really understanding the basis of it.

Haven't taken OB

but I am chemical sensitive. I have eliminated all that I can control.

Brownie or anyone else, can u explain how carbonated drinks cause u to stall? I drink quite a bit of diet Coke (and water) an am losin well but would it speed up if I cut out the Coke?

Jade, it's just that some people are more sensitive to sweeteners I think x
Locket, sensing a little passive aggression...I guess you can't tell tone from text but regardless, my opinion on the matter is just as valid as yours. I feel health benefits from the Oat Bran I use which I get from a local organic health food store and as day to day dieting goes I couldn't manage this diet without it.

According to Dr Dukan if the bran in the oatbran is not thoroughly sifted it is not sufficiently pure and contains too much flour.
The flour alone in the relatively unsifted oatbran is enough to make someone stall and so, for me, yes, it's enough reason to drop the oatbran to see if it has any effect on my stalled weight.
If I was taking vitamin tablets that weren't fulfilling their objective I would either fond an alternative or wonder why I'm throwing my money away.
