I've had enough...

I've come back from weigh in having lost 1lb and got my 1.5 stone award and I should be really pleased but Im peeved and had enough.

I have been SW'ing for 20 weeks and have lost 21lbs and Im close to just giving up. I'm fed up with my whole life being ruled by syns and HEX's for the sake of 1lb a week.

I find it so hard to sit and listen to people saying "oh I had such a bad week" and the consultant saying "well, you still lost 2lbs!" Or people who dont even follow the plan still losing more than me every week.

I do green days as Im a veggie and am considering doing reds to only have measured amounts of carbs. My consultant gave me the fast forward booklet tonight too so I have that choice too.

I just dont know what to do, I dont want to spend another 20 weeks getting 0.5lbs or maintains and an odd week or 2 getting 1 or 1.5lbs.

Hi, I think you should be proud you've lost weight,to begin with. But I guess that's not what you want to hear. Can you imagine how much you may have gained if not doing slimming world? I think everyones body/rate is different and you shouldn't compare yourself to others.
Are you exercising? Can you do more to help more loss?
Do you think you're eating too many carbs,or you're happy with your portions? If so maybe try substituting potatoes for squash, marrow etc,see if that helps?
Are you changing what you eat weekly? Or eating the same things, including HEXA and B?
I think with SW,you've chosen a healthy way of living forever, which can only be a
Positive thing.
Are you actually eating enough? Or are you thinking eat less, weigh less? I find with myself and ladies at group, less eaten, less weight loss.

I think you would probably feel worse giving up?
That's 21 bags of sugar you've ditched carrying around ;)
Maybe start a diary here,so other green day people can help?

Take care x

Hi there
May I pick up on a couple of things you've said? At the beginning you say your life is ruled by syns and healthy extras - do you mean measuring and weighing them? I wonder if if would help to pick things off the Grab and Go list like Weetabix or Hifi bars that don't need weighing? Same with syns - eg I use things like curly wurlys which I know I don't have to weigh of course - it's 6 syns. Also, free food should really be "ruling" - maybe some new recipes would help?

Also, you say you don't want to bother for 0.5 lbs or sts but your stats of 21 in 20 weeks means no halves or sts's but a lb off every week. Have you had meals out, holidays, weekends away during that time? Think how fab it is to still socialist AND be 1.5 stone lighter :)

Finally - re the other people - far better to eat healthily and lose 1 lb than eat junk and lose 2 I would say :).

Hope you feel better soon and congrats on your loss so far xx

Would you be happy to gain those 20 odd lbs back??

I fell off plan earlier this year and gained 21lbs back and feel awful - fat, bloated, uncomfortable. None of my clothes fit me and I cant believe that I actually weighed more than this at one point.

The above poster has given some great advice, nothing more I can add but stick with it, you'll regret it if you dont.

Perhaps it's not as quick as you would like but look at it the other way, you have 24lbs to target-in 6 months time you could be there!

I am really trying to understand what you are saying but I can't, sorry. It's a way of life not a diet as you need to eat anyway. Talking about weighing? Try weight watchers and you will see that slimming world is a breeze. You have lost 1.5st, you are lighter than you were 20 weeks ago so what exactly is the problem? And this is coming from someone who has only lost 1.5st in 17 weeks. Slow loser but getting there bit by bit. Exercise is the key and everything else will fall into place. Don't stop now or else all your hard work will be undone. Sorry if I sound a bit harsh but I wouldn't be here if someone else hadn't been harsh with me. I was ready to give after only losing 7lbs in a month while others were losing twice as much but then I realized everyone is different. I'm glad I didn't stop as I am fitter than I have ever been in my life because SW gives me the energy to exercise unlike other diets I have tried in the past. Good luck.

I can understand how you feel, it's the 'what can I have for lunch, now I've had my HEB' thing that gets me down sometimes.
So I gave up and now I do it weekly, all planned out and written down, no thinking about it.
It's like knowing for instance "I'm having All Bran for breakfast, and couscous for lunch and Lentil and mushroom loaf for tea.
Tomorrow I'm having Omelette for brekkie, and a quorn sausage sandwich for lunch, and ratatouille for tea. Must remember to cook the sausages ready
The next day I'm having fruit salad for brekkie, leftover lentil loaf for lunch and veggie curry for tea".
Or whatever.

Once you start planning (I've literally just done my menu on the wipeboard and done my online shopping), you can see where you can add in extra superfree, or swap out the potatoes for BNS for example. You can keep it varied and stay focussed, nothing worse than getting in, starving, and tired and not knowing what to have and because you haven't planned, not having everything you need. I can't be the only person who has planned a Curry and found I haven't got rice.

1lb a week equates to 52lb a year, without being hungry snappy and resentful.
Anyway whatever you decide I wish you well x

I would love to lose 1lb a week. I have lost 25lb and it's taken me 10 months and I'm really pleased with myself. Reading your comment about wanting to give up almost undermines my achievement. Just saying.

I can understand it and even though am maintaining I had a day like that yesterday and because I didn't plan etc as usual today will probably be difficult too as don't know what am having for dinner etc etc
It is hard to not be one of those people who can eat whatever you like when you like without putting weight on but if you aren't one of those people and you don't want to put weight on and want to lose weight then I would say that sw is the best way to go about it!
I on average lost 1.5lbs a week (sometimes it was more sometimes it was less sometimes I gained but that was the average) and altogether have lost over 9 stone so those 0.5lbs etc do all add up!
Hope you are in a better frame of mind this morning :)
Thanks for posting and I'm sure you meant no offence to anyone just airing your feelings like we all need to sometimes and thinking what to reply to you has done me a favour as I really ought to take my own advice at the minute! x

I can understand where your coming from I've been doing skimming world for nearly 2 years and have lost 2 stone 7 lbs now which is average 0.5 lbs a week !! It's been slow and steady with gains and maintains along the way and even though I would love it to be quicker it hasn't been and that's fine I'm
Still 2.5 stones lighter and 3 dress sizes smaller so I'm happy !!! Only less than a stone to go !!
You've done so well and it doesn't matter how long it takes what matters is that u get to that goal in the end xx

It does all add up hun. I have been doing SW for 9 months & have lost just shy of 3 stone. Another girl in my group has lost 4 stone in 10 weeks less than me. It would be easy for me to get downhearted about it & say 'can't be bothered' & its happened a couple of times.

Would be interested to see how much weight you feel you have left to loose (sorry, on my phone so can't see your stats) - this will affect the rate at which you loose. Its easier to loose larger amounts if you have more to loose (one guy in my group looses a stone a month!)

On a food level, what % of your food is superfree? Do you do a food diary? What type of food do you like to eat? Maybe we can give you some new recipe ideas if we know what type of foods you like to eat.

I am firmly in the ' fit SW around my life ' camp so you will never get me eating 'diet' foods like quark & using sweetener. I'd rather just syn some honey or some philly light once in a while. This does mean that sometimes i get bored of having to think about it all & go off track slightly. It happens, you just need to get back on as quickly as you can.

i don't really see how you being disappointed with your weight loss could undermine someone elses achievement & i'm sure it wasn't your intention to do so anyway, so don't worry about that. You're entitled to post how you feel about the plan.

Thanks for the support to those who gave it. Those who didn't are the reason I dont post on here so often. If a stranger on the internet can undermine your weight loss then.... just wow! The difference is whether you are pleased with yourself or not. And I'm not. I hate going to weigh in and hearing that someone who started a month ago has already hit their target of losing 1stone 4lbs, Im sorry if that makes me a bad person but it's how I feel.

I think I have just hit a rut in that I feel like I cant have a "normal" eating life and that I have to think about food constantly. My issue is not having an appetite and I dont tend to feel hungry, which is how I got here in the first place (breakfast, then nothing to eat all day until 9pm when it would be quick and convinient junk). I have read about people on green having much slower losses because they are overloading on carbs, so I am going to try and do Red mainly this week where I can.

I certainly dont want my stone and a half back!! :) I've reached half way, so I have another 21lbs to go... perhaps thats why Im having such a wobble... I know it will take me at least another 4 months and thats not a thrilling thought.

So, I will try red days, rather than Fast Forward and see what occurs.

Thanks again xxx

Hi
I know what you mean, it can seem daunting when you work out how long it could take o reach target. Something that has helped me is to think about how much better you will look and feel along the way to target. For example how much better you feel now than you did 1.5 stones ago and how much better you will feel at 2 stone off etc. I hope you know what I mean?! I found checking other peoples food diaries really helpful for getting meal ideas (you are welcome in my diary any time) and try to plan my food for the next day only. I find it works for me. I know what it feels like to get frustrated.. I am one of those people that if I go off plan for a day I will gain weight and when you hear of people blatantly cheating and still losing 2 pounds it can get frustrating! Good luck. I am sure if you stick with it you will achieve your target. X

It's not about undermining your weight loss and it's not about not giving you support - you will get support on here, but you will also get opinion.

21lb in 20 weeks is great, in fact it's the perfect weight loss - I've heard it said so often that it's the "perfect pound".

You really should be thrilled and proud of yourself, but it seems your not, and nothing any of us could say will change that.

I am very surprised that your consultant has given you fast forward, this is normally for when people are well and truly stuck, as in they haven't lost weight for weeks. I also just don't see the point in doing red days when you are veggie, I know people do, but I don't get it.

I think that by following SW your life is ruled by HEX's and syns but if you follow WW it's ruled by points and with RC it's ruled by fat (or it used to be).

Please don't think I'm not being supportive, far from it, but I think you are being very hard on yourself and you should be pleased, not fed up.

Hi. If you vegi, why not try the superspeed soup! I swear by it. I've been having it twice a day, with lots of fruit inbetween, and using my syns for what I crave (crisps average 9 syns or a couple of alpen light) and I've been losing about 2lbs a week. Worth a try! x

Hi,

I'm sorry you're feeling so down about your weight loss. I just wanted to add a few things that I observed from reading your post in the hope they might help, if they don't then feel free to ignore me!

I've lost 11.5 lbs in 9 weeks which averages out as a little over a lb a week. There have been some weeks where I've only lost 0.5lb and a week where I had a gain of 1.5lb for no apparent reason which was really annoying. I did SW about 5 years ago and lost 2st to get to target so I have confidence that if I stick to the plan then it will work, that really helped me the week I gained as if I hadn't had that experience I may have wondered whether this was going to work for me.

I also do mainly green days, I'm sure I would have bigger loses if I did red as I normally have a mountain of pasta for lunch (150g dry weight!) but I'd rather eat what I want to eat, have smaller loses and know that this is maintainable long term.

Something you said about not looking forward to another 4 months of this rang alarm bells. Have you thought about what happens when you get to target? As I said I lost 2 stone over 5 years ago. I then gradually went back to my old eating habits and here I am again having put that 2 stone back on. This time I know that SW isn't a diet but it is a change in eating habits. I'm actually glad that I'm losing weight slowly as it gives me time to change the way I eat and for that to become a habit. I aim to try at least one new recipe a week and then keep a notebook full of all the recipes I like and will cook again, that way I will build up lots of healthy meals that I can cook. This time when I get to target I'm still going to be eating SW meals and stay on plan as I know if I don't then the weight will just go back on. If you're not enjoying what you're eating and feeling like you're on a diet all the time then maybe you need to try some new recipes. If 9pm in the evening is when you know you are likely to want to eat lots then plan ahead and have something yummy and filling ready cooked to eat. Someone else said about planning out meals and what you will eat in advance, where your HEXs and syns will be used etc. and that's great advice, I always plan my evening meals a week in advance and tend to eat the same breakfasts and lunch so I know where I am.

If you want some more help posting a food diary would be useful, also saying what it is you miss eating and how (if you do) feel deprived by doing SW, I'm sure others will have lots of helpful advice.

If you stick with SW it will work, maybe slowly but you will get there :)

Thanks for the support to those who gave it. Those who didn't are the reason I dont post on here so often. If a stranger on the internet can undermine your weight loss then.... just wow!

So you just want to hear the good stuff then? If you come on a message board like this and complain about only losing a pound a week then you are going to get the responses that you got. Most people on here just about manage that, go on to this board http://www.minimins.com/slimming-world-teams/196573-really-slow-loss-team.html and you will see what I mean. All I am trying to say is you are no different than a lot of people and you have done so well and so what if it takes you another 4 months, at least you will be getting healthier and that is the positive way of looking at it.

I don't know why you originally posted if you didn't want to hear other peoples struggles and success stories with slow weight loss when they were only trying to help you.
I don't understand what answers you are looking for. No one was nasty or meant any offence
I have lost 8lbs in 10 weeks and I am proud of that yes other people lose a lot faster but I have health and medical problems and my Dr is made up with my loss so far. FWIW I do mainly green days with the odd red thrown in.
As someone else said so what are you going to do when you do lose all your weight as it sounds like you don't want to keep following the SW way of life which means bad habits forming again and you will be back to square one.
SW is NOT a quick fix and you are either committed to eating like this or you are not in which case maybe consider something else as you are clearly unhappy.

I've come back from weigh in having lost 1lb and got my 1.5 stone award and I should be really pleased but Im peeved and had enough.

I feel like that could have been written by me! I completely understand where you're coming from. In 25 weeks I've lost 21lbs, so on average I lose 0.8lb a week. I used to love my class but I stopped going for the exact reason you said, numerous ladies would lose decent amounts week after week & have no shame in admitting they hadn't stuck to plan, I was jealous & frustrated knowing I stick to it 100% & 'may' lose 1 week in 4. Luckily for me I am motivated enough to do it myself at home & this is the most I've lost so far, without the help of a consultant.

I'm also veggie & have done the odd Red day, I found I was hungry not long after my meals but if you think that will give you a boost try it. I'm doing Success Express this week myself, so 2/3 of my meals are superfree, maybe try that yourself?

From someone who I feel could be in your shoes :) Keep at it, I know you're losing slowly but you ARE losing, and smaller losses are more likley to stay off. If you try the other plans (FF or SE) & they don't work speak to your consultant again, maybe they'll have some more helpful ideas for you.

Please don't give up x
