Is it wrong to weigh yourself at home?

The reason I ask is because my first weigh-in is Thursday and I weighed myself just now and I'm 2lb heavier than I was when I had my induction weigh-in last week in meeting. :sigh: I feel very depressed and am regretting doing it now, but I've worked so hard since last Thursday by making sure I'm doing everything right and weighing/measuring when needed.....

Any advice?

Don't step on the scales, and if you do, you have to learn to ignore it anyway. There's a reason were supposed to weight in once a week, on the same day at the same time, and that's because your body weight fluctuates so much you can't get an accurate reading otherwise. Plus your scales won't necessarily say you weight the same as the sw ones in the first place.
Good news is you'll probably be very surprised when you do wi cause you'll have lost weight you didn't think you'd lost! Let us know how it goes x

Thanks!

I've put the scales back in the cupboard and thrown away the battery so I won't be tempted again! LOL.

As soon as I stepped on them I was regretting it and just thinking how it was possible as I've been doing everything to the book, including drinking 2litres + of water a day and a little exercise everyday - both of which I never have really done!

Best of luck!! Im joining SW this evening! Kinda nervous, been on Weight Watchers 3 yrs but stuck on my weight for over a year very frustrated and just need a new change and outlook on things, Hopefully I wont find it too much of a change and that I can stick to the plan!! :)

Your weight can fluctuate by up to 7lbs in a day  so its best to only weigh once a week. Plus you'll know the SW scales are accurate.

I used to find that if I weighed myself mid-week & it was bad, I'd feel so rubbish I'd go out & eat rubbish which would only sabotage all the good I'd done the days before. Its just not worth it. Stick with your official weigh in :)

Its generally cos all scales will weigh different unless they are calibrated on a regular basis, the other thing you said was about exercising which you've never done... this can have an effect when you first increase your exercise as your body will retain water - this will only be for 2-3 weeks max though

My sister recently joined SW, when she headed off to 1st WI she was convinced she had gained because she felt bloated and had eaten more food than she had for years but ended up with a 4.5lb loss on the class scales.

She came home and check weighed on her own scales to find they weighed her 3lbs heavier that the SW ones at class.

Don't stress over it you'll be fine.

My scales weigh exactly the same as the SW world ones and personally, I wouldn't/couldn't be without them!
I weigh everyday, several times infact, although I don't take a blind bit of notice of what they read! I know I weigh 3/4 lbs heavier in the evening, sometimes more if I've eaten lots of carbs but I don't let it bother me.
I never lose weight during the dieting week, it's always last minute, usually the day of my official weigh in.
It doesn't change the way I eat or the way I feel if the scales read more than the day before.
I guess I just like being in control and know what my body is doing!!!!

i weigh my self at home most mornings dont really take on bored i just like a glance : ) i sometimes drop weight on the friday depends i dont get worked up though cos my scales are very unreliable

This could have been written by me, I'm not sure why I do it coz I don't take a blind bit of notice and, like you, seem to lose all the weight on a sun (my weigh in is mon) but I think it's the control thing, when I am away and can't weigh I worry that my body is going to turn on me and gain. Haha.

Personally I always weigh myself 5 minutes before I go to class, I do this for two reasons.

1. Calibrates my scales to the class ones.
2. If I can't make it for my weekly weigh-in as I know the calibration between the two scales I can keep an accurate tab on my weekly weight.

We all have our weigh-in rituals, so I think it's pointless to weigh as your going through the week. I know by following the same format on weigh-in day it makes me two pounds lighter than two days prior for example.

Hiya, I stopped weighing myself for a couple of reasons, it depresses the life out of me and my scales are never right! If I weigh on carpet it differs from when I weigh on hard floors. So I don't trust it! Apparently our weight changes by + or - 2lbs everyday. So I only do it at group :) x
