Hi Shell,
I know where you're coming from with the gym. I lost 3 stone about 2 years ago and was going to the gym 3 times a week.
For 6 months I STS (16st 6lb), I didn't take my measurements at the time and just relied on the scales. By the end of the 6 months I was going out of my mind, even though my body had changed shape.
So I started discussing weight training techniques with one of the gym instructors, as I'd trained as a personal trainer and fitness instructor 15 years prior (yes I was that into fitness). We got talking and I tried the 'Pyramid' training method on the chest press. This completely fatigues the muscles used and for 4 days after that I couldn't move my arms above chest height.
Needless to say, I couldn't face going back to the gym after that and I slowly slipped back into my old ways and put weight on (back to over 18 stone).
I now getting back into the swing of things, and will not be over doing it
I suppose what I'm trying to say, is that although you may not be losing weight, you will have been adding a significant amount of muscle and toning muscle. You must have changed shape?
Guys I know it is difficult, but try not to solely rely on the scales. Try and use measurements, photo's and if possible your fat percentages/measurements.
The scales do not give you a true 'visual' picture of your weight loss
That said, welcome back shell and good luck!!
