cambridge diet, SS please be careful, I was on it

miss-r

I can do it!!
cambridge diet, SS please be careful, I was on it

I don't think anyone on here will like what i have to say, but I am worried about what the cambridge diet.

I am mainly talking about SS/SS+

Please be very careful, its not good to have that little food. I really don't think it can be good for you.
I am convinced it wrecks your metabolism so you end up going back on to cambridge. I may be wrong but certainly it doesnt address any eating issues, well it didnt for me.

If like me you finish cambridge and go back to old ways you will gain weight.

To sustain the weight loss takes alot of will power and if you haven't changed your eating habits you will put weight back on.

I was reading about the effects of starvation and they are quite similar to common side effects of cambridge.
It can't be good for you. If you really are that hungry then you should eat something healthy.
I think if you want to eat an apple you should eat an apple.

If a friend wanted to do cambridge I would not recommend shakes only. I would recommend 810 or at a push maybe do SS+ (3 shakes and a small meal) for a short time then up to 810.
I really don't think its good for you to only have liquid meals. (or 1 small bar)

I lost 2.5 stone over 3 months and was really pleased.
But now I have put most of it back on.
Was it worth nearly starving myself for? No

I am doing things differently now.

Of course its my fault i've put weight back on, and I shouldn't blame the diet but looking back there are things that concern me about it.

Of course if you are doing CD you will defend and justify it, just all I ask is please please please be very careful and don't be surprised if you have an insatiable appetite/food obsession/start putting on weight when you finish.

A diet that puts you off eating fruit and veg isn't that great.
I am determined not to go back on CD, I don't want to be caught in a cycle of relying on the cambridge lady.

I don't want to ruin anyones day but please take note, doing CD SS is very drastic, and should be considered a last resort.

Please be careful!!

Hi Miss R,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree with some of your comments. I agree that it is not worth starving yourself, losing the weight and then piling the weight back on.

I'm planning to do the Cambridge Diet for a maximum of 11 weeks and then join slimming world to lose the remainder of my excess weight. I am also hoping to get back to running (which I really enjoyed before piling the weight due a personal tragedy) and start training again for 10k races.

I am not naive enough to think that my relationship with food will magically disappear by doing this diet. What I am grateful for is that by doing the cambridge diet I have started to obsess less about food and focus more on how to resolve my relationship with food. I admit that I am one messed up cookie when it comes to eating, but doing this diet I am focusing on how I can improve my life & my family's life. Admittedly, this is only Day 8 but I'm currently feeling so energetic and positive about kick starting my weight loss than I fail to share some of your nagative thoughts.

Just out of interest, how are you planning to lose the weight? Are you doing it alone of joining a slimming club?

Hello Miss R

You have some very good advice there. I don't know about the metabolism thing, but I do know my thyroid went under-active about a yr after I finished CD last time. I however kept the weight off (somehow), for me I was so great-full for any food!!! But I finished CD and went straight on Atkins and now I know my life is going to be a low carb one. I also plan to do all the steps this time as it's the only way to truly test your willpower and not go mad if you know what I mean. I had my gallbladder out 4 months ago as well and I've put it down to my low carb dieting.

Congratulations on your weight loss and I wish you the very best with the rest of your weight loss journey

Regards
Majella

Hi, firstly im not going to pretend im an expert (because im not) but what you need to remember your are tricking your body into a "natural State". I originally lost 7 stone last year, and been on and off ever since, as when i get to my weight "limit" I dieted again, max ive put on is a stone. I believe i put this weight on because i totally ignored the steps into mainenance, it was more wow cant believe ive lost 7 stone lets have a double decker duo or something stupid like that!! Doing that i introduced rubbish back into my body before i got my metabolism back to normal!!

Totally agree that it does not "re - educate" regarding food, but then it gets to the point, dont we need to stop pretending and just get a grip, do you really need someone to tell us that a plate of chips is more unhealthy than a plate of brocolli?? Brown is better than white etc

I think with me, it will one day hit me and say - stop eating rubbish!!!

I hope its soon as i cant afford to keep re starting :)

And the last point is when you get to what i was (22 stone) doing weight watchers etc would take years, and even though i also agree that SS'ing probably isnt fantastic for you, it is the lesser of 2 evils, i.e better Soul Sourcing than risking your health at 22 stone!!

I feel like a new man, a fresh start, and personally would recommend for anyone with stones to lose!!

I wish you all the best on the weight loss road you decide to take

Dave

Well said dave I agree with what you saying. As when I was doing slimming world granted I lost 7 stone. And yes I put 5 stone of that back on because well I said same oh I lost all the weight I can have that etc. And look where I am now, I am currently 18 stone 1 and have ibs and back back. So the quicker it comes of for me the better and I will be careful once I have lost this weight and watch what I eat. I love chicken and veg and such and will stick to that instead of take away I truly believe that if we want to lose our weight and keep it off we will. Yeah allow yourself a treat once in a while but only I can stop what I putting in my mouth and only can decide what's healthy or not......... Do Cambridge lose weight keep weight off..... Do Cambridge lose weight put weight on. It can only be your choice

Interesting post. I was at my counsellors last night (I am following the book through the steps) and she said "I am so glad you are doing this, so few people work their way through the steps like you are" and I said 'I know what happens if you don't follow the steps.

I think you are missing a point:

The Cambridge Diet is not the food packs. The Cambridge Diet is using the foodpacks until you are a weight you would be happy stabilising at and then following each and every step as closely as you can for a minimum of 2 weeks and then, and only then on the advice of your consultant, stepping up a plan. If you did this, then by all means, please feel free to share your opinions on why it didn't work. If you did not, then you did not follow the Cambridge Diet, you just used foodpacks.

I did put on 7 stone of the 8 stone I lost on Lighter Life, because I did not follow the plan to the end. I am not going to make that mistake again.

I think you are right in some respects, you should not follow this for a long time, and you should not take it lightly, for most people, it is a last ditch attempt after every other diet and eating sensibly attempt has failed.

But please remember this is a Cambridge Diet support forum. It is here to support users of the Cambridge Diet who are already having a tough old time of it already, if you can't be supportive of how to use the diet correctly and safely then I would suggest you take your comments to Cambridge directly. Because if you really are that concerned about the diet's safety, I think you should.

Oh also - I am on Step 3-4 - I have been eating real food for over a month and I am eating 5-8 portions of fruit and veg a day, 2 portions of organic protein and lots of lovely organic dairy - I haven't been tempted to cheat once, haven't had anything off plan or fattening. I have never eaten so healthily or intuitively in my life because I was very careful when I first came off the plan not to go nuts and to make sure I kept myself busy and to avoid all temptations - if you don;t work very hard at that part, it will be like any other diet - after all if, like me you can get to a BMI of 42, you had some pretty hard sto shift habits there in the first place, Cambridge is not a magic wand, it does reeducate you if you follow the book to the last page and beyond.

This unsafe diet has taken me from morbidly obese to almost perfect in 5 months. My blood pressure is good (I was close to needing medication before) my depression and anxiety have vanished - I'm not out of breath when I run for the bus or up stairs.

I am confused as to why you say you know some people will defenc Cambridge. Of course I will! I did it properly this time. I followed it to the letter and have made a pact with myself to keep on doing so. Anyone who does will get results and keep them. See you in 2 years. I bet you any money I keep all the weight off (unless by some miracle, I have a baby, I can't control what that does to your weight ;) )

I also think this is an interesting post too and i have to agree on what you have posted here Sarah.. I just hope people who are on OR starting CD or any other VLCD and using this wonderful minis forum for support is not put off from following CD or any other VLCD.. :)

Best of luck to you Miss r :)

Miss r...hope you have success on what ever diet you choose to do.
Just had to reply to your post....which ever diet you do will affect your metabolic rate as your limitimg fuel for your body, vlcd may be the extreme but they are governed by NICE guidelines and cambridge has been about for years.
We are all different so we have to see the effects on our own body. we are all different. VLCD are not for everyone but ww or sw does not suit everyone and they do not always sort out head issues with food....again down to the indidvidual.
For me diet has been a twenty year experience..seems to be a learning experience for all of us....and for me cambridge gave me the best results and the break from food I needed.
Which ever diet you do...its the maintainence that is the real hard work.
Good luck to everyone. Just had to say!!!

Well said ladies. We are all here because we want to be and if we want to stay slim we will :)

I'm sorry but is there any factual basis behind your reasoning?

There are people all over the world who have stayed in ketosis for years and had no side effects, I don't know if people have been putting nonsense into your head?

If I didn't do this diet I'd probably be over 30 stone by now and very realistically have diabetes at the age of 22...

Instead I have a BMI of 29 rather than the 44 I started at and feel the best I have done for atleast 4 years, I still have about 23lbs left until my goal though.

Why is she more likely to fail than anybody else on here? How you haven't been banned yet is quite frankly ridiculous, I'm curious as to whether these are attempts at trolling or whether you are genuinely that narrow minded.

It's quite obvious from your posts that you don't support this diet so why do you even post here? Are you just trying to get this rise out of people for amusement? Pathetic.

Well said Xxxx. We are here for support and to help one another not to be nasty and leave insulting messages

Hi, didn't want to read and run!

I did Cambridge diet for just 2 months and lost 2 and a half stone doing mainly SS and was happy with results but started to get depressed so made the decision to stop!
I then put all my weight back on and I no it was because I didn't follow the plan and work up the steps properly.

I'm now doing slimming world and feel this is working and I am happier!

I think you should do what you feel is right as the diet won't be for everyone but it could be for you! I can't say I would never go back to Cambridge diet but don't think I could do SS again just with the way I felt before and found I got very little support from friends and family as they didn't believe the diet was healthy.

Good luck to anyone doing Cambridge Diet!

Xxx

In many ways, miss-r, I don't disagree with your post. But it's truly not that helpful to the many people here who are working incredibly hard on losing excess weight using Cambridge products. Doing Cambridge is tough enough - without anyone telling us it's a really bad idea.

Most of us know that there are other ways of losing weight. Many of us have tried pretty much all of those ways of losing weight - and failed. I resisted doing Cambridge for years because of people telling me it's dangerous. In fact, the Cambridge diet is probably the most tested diet on the planet. Done correctly - that is, without cheating, using the mealpacks as they're designed to be used, reaching the weight you want to lose then working your way back up the steps, just as our wonderful Cerulean is doing - it's quite safe. And it probably saved my life.

My weight was veering dangerously out of control at the point I found Cambridge. I remember thinking that I should at least give it a go - because the next stop surely had to be bariatric surgery (and no one can argue that that's dangerous!). I lost five and a half stones - and yes, I've put two of them back on. But I've never gone back to the weight I was before. In fact, studies show that people who lose weight using VLCDs are less likely to regain all the weight they lose than those following more conventional diet plans.

It didn't work for you, miss-r. Well, actually it did - but you regained the weight and now you're choosing to blame Cambridge for your regain. If you'd lost the weight on WW and regained the weight, would you be blaming WW and telling us not to do that?

At the end of the day, I only have myself to blame for the food that I might choose to shovel into my mouth. :) I have an addiction to eating in the way that other people are addicted to nicotine or alcohol or exercise. There will never be a time in my life when I can relax around food, just as an alcoholic can't be relaxed around alcohol.

I'm genuinely sorry that Cambridge didn't prove to be the magic diet you were looking for. I'm still on a quest to find that magic diet myself. In the meantime, I will be forever grateful that Cambridge products were available and that I had the support of a fantastic CWPC. Keeping that 3 stones off has given me my life back. It's as simple as that.
