Does anyone have one of these dogs i am curious what they are like to own, i am so desperate for another dog, mine died four weeks ago he was 13 we had him from 8 months he was a rescue, the kids have grown up and now i have nothing to mother :cry:I always said that when Hamish went i wouldnt have another but i am lost without one.

My eldest daughter has one (Benji) and my sister had one too (William).

Benji (not quite a year old) is adorable: a livewire who is heaps of fun but can't be let off the lead because he loves everyone too much and is off with whatever family is passing at the time. He's a real character!

William (3 years old) is a fabulous little person: he is less manic that Benji (but Benji is still very young remember). William is totally in love with my little dog Pepper - a cavalier king charles crossed with a miniature German schnauzer. He is loving, sweet and CAN be let off the lead as he comes back when called.

I think Shih Tzus are lovely little dogs - robust, bold but very loving and loyal. Their funny little flat faces make me laugh :) They're both great with kids and other dogs (although a lot of that is dependant on the owner socialising a dog properly).

I'd recommend them as a pet.

Shihtzu

Well my beloved Shihtzu Bruce got run over last Oct and he was just adorable. Very good most of the time... but the breed does have a defiant trait so matter how trained they are they can be soooooooo stubborn.

I now have Suzie who is 1 yr old this Dec and she is nothing like Bruce was. We have 2 other dogs and she can be quite snappy and aggresive towards them. One is a lab and the other a German sheperd/Collie.....She just likes the 1st fuss and tends to rule the roost...I do love the breed tho'

Grooming must be a priority as they can get quite tatty and they love being kept clean...They love to be brushed and told how beautiful they are. Suzie is off for her 1st visit to the groomers tomorrow for her 1st cut...God help them....lol

One more thing which is gross really....When a small puppy they do tend to eat their own poo....Gross I know but they do grow out of it....

I would do lots of reading as there are some great websites all about the breed and then you can make your mind up.

We are already thinking of getting another ourselves very soon :D

Awww these are such cute dogs!! I'd defo have one if i was considering a dog!! I think the great thing is that they don't moult (sp?), but i imagine you would have to do a lot of brushing of their thick coats!!

Do let us know what you decide and remember to post us a pic!

I heard that they can be stubborn, some dogs do eat their own poo, i once saw something on the telly about Beagles being really bad for doing that. I just love those little teddy bear faces on them so cute.
