Corn on the cob

Hi, I'm a newbie to both diet and this forum. Started WW last Wednesday and have 30lbs to lose.

Preparing my dinner this evening and I worked out that my pork chop is worth 3pps and my corn on the cob worth 6!

How did that happen? How can corn be greater than meat?

Thanks

Ok I'm not 100% but I think the points in this diet are based more on carbs and protein rather than fat and calories. Sweetcorn is a pulse this high in carbs resulting in more points! I may be wrong tho! ;) Stick to free vegetables instead or babycorn if you need that corn fix!

Ah that makes sense then, thank you. It was my friend who bought dinner this evening, meaning well by buying the cobs. It's nit something I would choose to eat on a regular basis, thankfully.

I had the spare points to have it regardless, was just shocked at the value. Even in a week, I'm getting picky about what I spend my points on. Pity I couldn't hold that ethos with my money lol.

Thanks again ) x

how big was the corn on the cob??? I don't have mine coming up at 6 points as the online system shows me a medium corn on the cob as being 2 - I think that's something like 125g but can't remember off the top of my head and I must make sure I weigh them next time I take one out of the freezer as I don't think I ever have and now I'm wondering what points they really should be lol

Although when you say your friend bought dinner I'm thinking that it's a take out one maybe?

I would say if in doubt always go by what it says on the packet that the food comes in, if at all possible.

In the booklet you get in your folder they give you at meetings it said chicken was 4pp per 164g, the stuff I bought the other day was 4pp per 120g (or there abouts)

The way something is cooked, the weight, and the stuff added to it, can all change the amount of PP something is.

I go to Sainsburys (love there pie chart on the labels showing you how healthier the food is) I try to stick to foods with as much green in the pie chart as possible, that way I know its probably going to be less points then the same item of food with more red parts, its obvious to most but helps me.

I'm doing WW online, so I didn't get any reading material from them, but I am checking what the PP value is on the app against what I get calculating it myself. I'm sure I'll relax with it as time goes on though.

That's a good idea using Sainsubury's pie charts to go by.

I must be doing something right, as this morning was weigh day and I lost 6lbs :)

Well done on the weight loss. I got my weigh in tonight( fingers crossed)

what ever works for you stick with that cause only you know what works best as far as your concerned....

well done on the weight loss - that's fantastic for a first week.

I must admit as I don't always use the same supermarket but replace food from whatever shop I happen to have been to it hadn't occurred to me that they might have different values and I've just been using the generic value on e-source without checking the packaging. In my case I'm not too worried as its not something I eat fantastically frequently and I rarely use any of my weeklies so if I get it wrong its not going to be a problem but it does show how easily you can eat points without realising!

Thank you girls, I was well pleased :)

My fingers are crossed for your weigh in tonight!

Yeah, I'll probably relax a bit as time goes on, but right now I dare not let anything pass my lips that haven't been checked, even if it's the same thing from another shop lol

ok I'm a dork - I'm sat here panicking thinking I've been counting 2 points on corn on the cob when it should be 6 and then my brain FINALLY kicked in a pointed out that I'm only eating mini ones at 100g so the worst I've done is counted 2 points instead of 3. I can stop fretting now hahahahahahahahahaha

It's not a bad idea to keep checking that carefully at the start - when you start to relax later you will have the points fixed into your head which means if you aren't checking religiously you will have a better chance of being pretty close if not spot on. What you are doing so far seems to be working well though so as already said just keep up the good work :)

Thanks very much, mifford. I'm determined to lose the weight that's been creeping on for 10 years BUT....there's a part of me that almost feels my fatty bits are.....hmmm it's hard to describe, almost comfortable, if that makes sense?

Definitely not comfortable getting stuck in a dress in a changing room though! LOL

I just checked the ww app and for a 200g it says it's 3 points and it's a filling and healthy food :) so not too bad after all!

Could the pack have meant just the corn by any chance? Not likely but I know chicken drumsticks are tricky to figure out whether it's including or excluding the bones sometimes!

If you work out any veg by then NV it will come out with a pp value so I think you should go by the app..

Yeah that's what I wondered too, the NV was for every 100g, but the wight of mine was 200g including the cob, so maybe I just pointed something unnecessarily.

I think I'll just use the app from now on with ambiguous stuff like that LOL. Lesson learned - don't both with corn on the cob! LOL
